ATRL Moderator Element Posted February 2, 2022 ATRL Moderator Posted February 2, 2022 Castaways, welcome to the sixth challenge of Survivor: ATRL Edition (Season 12)! Tribal immunity is back up for grabs... ONE tribe will win, while the other two will be going to tribal council. The highest scorer on each tribe will also receive immunity. Let’s get started! The theme for Round 6 is... The Mistress "You're comin' back just like you have in the past" This challenge, you'll be diving into the mind of ~The Other Woman~. (or man, gender is irrelevant for your submission) We're looking for songs from the point of view of a person deeply in love with someone else who is already taken by another. What will turn your good entry into a great one are lyrics that emphasize the secret nature of their affection, and the understanding that the lover will probably keep this entanglement as-is, never leaving their wife/husband for the mistress. _________________ What To Do: Once your song is selected, PM both of the hosts the artist and title of your song on Discord in our group DM. You don't have to include a link to the song unless you are sending a specific version of it. There's no explanation needed as your song should speak for itself. If your song requires an explanation to make sense, it's not a good fit. You guys are bound to submit the same songs at some point and because no one can occupy the same song, we encourage you to send a back-up choice along with your first pick. This applies especially to those who are not around when a round is posted and don't have the luxury of choosing an instant track. IMPORTANT NOTE: ONCE YOU SEND A SONG THAT IS AVAILABLE, YOUR CHOICE IS LOCKED AND YOU MAY NOT SWITCH. AGAIN, YOU CANNOT SWITCH SONGS. IF SOMEONE TAKES YOUR SONG FIRST, THAT IS WHEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SUBMIT A NEW ONE, SO PLEASE SUBMIT A BACK-UP. Take Into Consideration: The panel will judge the audio/lyrics of the track you submit. Music videos will not increase or decrease your score as some music video plots differ from a song's true meaning. The theme is what is important here. You will not receive a low score because you sent in a song one of the judges does not like. Taste will at the most be the difference between an 8.5 or a 9. We will never dock off multiple points based off mere preference. The song you choose should display the meaning upfront. An interview with your artist clarifying the meaning of the song will not be taken into consideration. Judging Scale (May Vary By Judge): 9/10 – Great entry. Track displays the theme given head on. 8 – Good entry. Displays theme well but not as well as others. 7 – Okay entry. Fits decently but is missing something overall. 6 – Somewhat tackles the theme but falls flat. 5 – Track mentions theme but is otherwise off–base. 3/4 – Song does not hit the theme given besides a line or two. 1/2 – Song has to do with a completely different subject than the theme. _________________ We will supply an example for each round for you all to take inspiration from. Obviously no one can select this song as their entry. The example for this round is "Saving All My Love for You" by Whitney Houston. In this song, Whitney romanticizes a clandestine affair with a man who already has a wife and family of his own. She mentions sneaking around and falling in love with him, despite knowing his talk of running away with her is just an old fantasy. _______________________________________________________ The tribe with the highest average scores will be safe this round, meaning that the losing tribes will attend tribal council. Remember that the highest scoring member of each losing tribe will be immune at tribal council. Your song submissions are due in 23 hours (8 PM ET) on Wednesday, February 2nd. Good luck and please let the hosts know if you have any questions! @Rotunda @Golden Hour @Anvarie @Marvin @khalyan @fais_2311 @Opulent @TruGemini @Samsom @Kayseri Mantisi @beatinglikeadrum @DAP @Ampersand13 @Acetone @Harmonizer @Red Light @VenusFlyTrap
rl231 Posted February 4, 2022 Author Posted February 4, 2022 Welcome castaways to your 6th results show! Below will be the rankings for each round. The tribe with the highest average will win immunity, and the top people on each losing tribe will also be immune at Tribal Council. After I reveal the scores, I will post the final results which will include how you ranked against all castaways, and finally the overall rankings after this round. With that said, here it is…
rl231 Posted February 4, 2022 Author Posted February 4, 2022 beatinglikeadrum Dorothy Loudon - Ballroom: Fifty Percent VenusFlyTrap Sugarland - Stay (STOLEN) khalyan K. Michelle - Maybe I Should Call Acetone sheDAISY - She Gets What I Deserve TruGemini SZA - The Weekend Dorothy Loudon - Ballroom: Fifty Percent Auburn - 10 - This fits perfectly to me. Gateau - 6.5 - I don’t really get the sense that she’s in love much at all. Leans way too much into the “He doesn’t belong to me” aspect and doesn’t focus enough on what she does love about him. Luckystrike - 10 - Another queen being down bad, works perfectly to me. Supaspaz - 7.5 - Is there some plot context I’m missing here? Because the lyrics are ambiguous enough that this could just be about a man who refuses to commit. I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it’s actually about an affair. Emotionally, this is a grand slam, but thematically, it’s a muddled mess. I’ll split the difference with my score. Sugarland - Stay Auburn - 6.5 - She definitely has not resigned to the end yet. She still has hope. Other than that, it’s a well fitting entry. Gateau - 7 - Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Yeah uh, not really? I feel like you need to have read the prompt just a bit more because this doesn’t hit like I think you thought it did. I definitely disagree with my colleague about the understanding part btw. “You keep telling me, baby, There will come a time, When you will leave her arms, And forever be in mine, But I don't think that's the truth”, this hits it for me? The rest of this song is a bit off the mark though. Luckystrike - 5.5 - She is begging this man to leave his wife, so the “understanding that the lover will probably keep this entanglement as-is, never leaving their wife/husband for the mistress” part definitely ain’t there, and then towards the end it seems like she finally understands it, but she gets fed up with the situation and decides to end the affair? This started off promising but as the song progressed it drifted away from the theme more and more. Supaspaz - 5 - It feels like this character is one narrative step before what the theme is calling for. She definitely loves this man, but she has not accepted that she’ll always be the other woman. K. Michelle - Maybe I Should Call Auburn - 1.5 - Sorry this is not fitting. Gateau - 2 - Oh honey. She’s not in a relationship. This is not what I ordered. Luckystrike - 1 - This is definitely about a past relationship that she is not over yet, I don’t see any secret affair in here? She even makes it pretty clear that they don’t talk anymore in the “but I never call” line and the bridge. Supaspaz - 1 - Keep this one on hand for the week when the theme is about not being over an ex, though. sheDAISY - She Gets What I Deserve Auburn - 8.5 - It wanders a bit off topic but definitely implies that she’s the mistress, that it was a secret from the wife, and that she loves him too. Gateau - 6 - This isn’t really a love song, and it doesn’t talk about HIM enough. Kinda missed the mark a bit on this one luv. Luckystrike - 6 - Yet another weird POV one since the mistress kind of focuses more on the wife and talks about wanting to be in her place but also mentions feeling guilty. I wish she talked more about her actual relationship with the man, but I guess it somewhat works in other aspects. Supaspaz - 7 - These country hos sure have a lot of affairs! While the narrative is right for this theme, the tone is so off. She feels guilty for sleeping with another woman’s husband and wants to apologize, but it’s not clear that she plans to stop because she loves this man. A confusing choice. SZA - The Weekend Auburn - 2 - No. It just doesn’t work. There is no cheating or relationship here, they all seem to be aware. Gateau - 7.5 - This really goes in on the passion aspect, and the understanding it’ll never be anything more, the problem is just that…… it seems she knows? The mistress isn’t really a secret at all. Its also just very overtly sexual and that’s not really what this challenge is about. Luckystrike - 6 - It doesn’t fully convince me since it sounds like it’s just something sexual rather than a deeper, more established relationship, but I guess it slightly works. Supaspaz - 4 - As SZA has said, there’s no girlfriend and side chick here. This is about three women who are all being played by the same cheating man. The fact that she’s ready to sync Google Calendars to share him means there’s no secrecy at play either.
rl231 Posted February 4, 2022 Author Posted February 4, 2022 Samsom Fiona Apple - I Know fais_2311 Billy Paul - Me and Mrs. Jones Anvarie Lana del Rey - The Other Woman Harmonizer SWV - You're the One Rotunda Xscape - My Little Secret DAP JoJo - So Bad Fiona Apple - I Know Auburn - 10 - I mean obviously she’s a lyrical genius but this surely nails the theme either way. Gateau - 10 - Hits all the points. GJ. Luckystrike - 8 - I originally gave this a lower score but after reading the lyrics again, I found out it fits way more than I initially thought. It gets a little too philosophical at some points as your typical Fiona Apple song does, but I think it’s a pretty good fit for the theme. Supaspaz - 9 - Really elevated by the final stanza. Though it appears for a moment as though Fiona is pushing her lover to leave his partner, the song ends with a sense of resignation that perhaps he never will – and maybe she doesn’t mind. Billy Paul - Me and Mrs. Jones Auburn - 10 - In some parts I thought this was wavering on the edge of not being a 10, but ultimately it ties together as the full package for the theme. Gateau - 7 - ehhhh I mean like YEAH, I guess, but it doesn’t really nail the “love” part. This should be a dangerous, enveloping love, not just “we meet at the cafe and I like her”. Luckystrike - 10 - Spot on, that’s about it. Congrats! Supaspaz - 10 - There’s a particular verse (“We gotta be extra careful/That we don't build our hopes up too high/Cause she's got her own obligations/And so, and so do I”) that both bolsters the strength of the theme while also undermining it. How invested are they in each other really? Then you hear him sing it with all his soul and…you can just feel that he’s scared by how much he cares. Lana del Rey - The Other Woman Auburn - 7 - The first two verses make it seems as this is not related to theme at all, but by the end it does get stronger. Not the best entry here though. Gateau - 6 - I feel like you saw the first sentence of the prompt and blew your load with this one. Girl, READ THE REST!!!! Luckystrike - 7.5 - I feel like this focuses too much on comparing herself to the other woman/the wife, I’m missing a lot of the “lyrics that emphasize the secret nature of their affection” part of the theme, but it does decently in the other aspects. Supaspaz - 7 - More of an instruction manual than the type of narrative that would really sell the theme, but it’s not exactly wrong. She knows she’ll spend her life alone! SWV - You're the One Auburn - 6 - Really nails the first part of the theme, but there’s no evidence here that she’s the mistress OR that she has the awareness that she would be the mistress forever. It reads more like she expects him to leave his girl FOR her. Gateau - 7.5 - So here’s the thing, this covers every single point the prompt is looking for… except that its not exactly 100% that she’s the mistress yet? I mean, it says “make this love got *further*” which I guess points in the direction the love is already there? I don’t know. So the vagueness knocks it down 2.5 points. But everything else is PARFAIT. Luckystrike - 5 - Hmm, I feel like this isn’t about an already existing relationship, it sounds kinda one-sided to me, like she’s trying to convince him to have an affair with her, which is quite off-theme. It has some moments that work but I feel like the main part of the theme is missing here. Supaspaz - 5 - This is a seduction. She’s offering to be the side chick, but she doesn’t even have the man yet. Xscape - My Little Secret Auburn - 9.5 - It’s almost perfect, but it feels like it’s missing the seriousness beyond secretive sex forever. I don’t feel the love entirely. They will never be together, but she seems just a little too okay with that. Gateau - 9 - I feel like this could be a lot more lovey dovey. Not really feeling the YEARN, the DESIRE from this one. Feels almost borderline like a series of sexual quickies. OTherwise hits it totally. Luckystrike - 10 - Whew, the cheek, the nerve, the gall, the audacity and the gumption! This was perfect. Supaspaz - 8 - All of the elements are there, but the vibe is off. It feels like this affair is just a fun game to them. JoJo - So Bad Auburn - 7 - Definitely doesn’t sound like she’s in love with him, but the affair game is strong. Gateau - 7.5 - hits the points but way too focused on raunchy sex. Luckystrike - 6.5 - This feels more like a casual affair moment to me, it doesn’t sound like they have a deeper relationship than sex to me, and while it obviously fits the secretive part, it lacks that deeper connection we wanted to see. Supaspaz - 6 - This song doesn’t take us any further than the clandestine relationship. Where is the love or the consideration of a future together? It’s missing the emotional depth.
rl231 Posted February 4, 2022 Author Posted February 4, 2022 Red Light Reba McEntire - Does He Love You (feat. Linda Davis) Kayseri Mantisi SWV - I'm So Into You Marvin Sunny Sweeney - From a Table Away Ampersand13 The Soul Children - I'll Be the Other Woman Opulent Randy Crawford - Single Woman, Married Man Golden Hour LeeAnn Rimes - Borrowed Reba McEntire - Does He Love You (feat. Linda Davis) Auburn - 7.5 - I feel like this fits most of the theme, minus the part about it being a secret. No one said the song had to be directed right at the cheater. Gateau - 7 - This song makes me tear up so much. :’( But I feel like this is more, her and the wife talking together? Therefor the secret part is gone, which, whatever, only a couple points down in my book. But I don’t feel like she goes very in-depth with her love for him. Just questions if he loves the other woman. Luckystrike - 4 - This is a very weird song to judge because the POV here is like… the mistress talking to the wife? There’s nothing in the song that lets us know if the affair is a secret being kept from the wife or not, so unfortunately this is a miss for me. Supaspaz - 3 - Well, at least you picked a song about an affair. SWV - I'm So Into You Auburn - 7 - Adequate. Very surface level and not very secretive. Gateau - 6.5 - ehhhhhhhh. meh. Luckystrike - 6.5 - I mean, it works but it is extremely flat and one note, the choruses are more than half of the song so it just repeats the same thing again and again. Very average. Supaspaz - 7 - If “she’s not blind to the things you do for me,” then it’s not really a secret. Sunny Sweeney - From a Table Away Auburn - 8 - Fits well, but I wish it detailed the fact that she is also in love with him a bit more. I feel like this doesn’t give me a strong indication. Solid choice, though. Gateau - 8 - Went a bit back and forth with this one, but ultimately it kinda hits, especially as I didn’t clarify a few things in the prompt as well as I probably should have. Luckystrike - 6 - Well, this was a very controversial song in the judges chat because it was very polarizing. At the beginning, I fully tanked this because she came off angry to me but I guess it was never specified whether that mattered or not. Although I don’t think this does a good job at talking about her affair with the man at all, she does make it very clear that she knows the man will not leave her wife and it’s very obviously a secret. Supaspaz - 8 - My fellow judges are, respectfully, quite wrong here. This is a heartbreaker about coming to terms with the fact that your lover isn’t going to leave his wife after all. It was an inspired choice! The Soul Children - I'll Be the Other Woman Auburn - 9.5 - Just one small balk about this. The neighbors know, so I guess it’s not entirely a secret. Gateau - 10 - yuppppppppppppppp aced it. Luckystrike - 10 - The nerve of her to ask him not to cheat on her while she’s the mistress, a cackle. But a great fit! Supaspaz - 10 - “Loving a married man/This I really don't mind/But a married Casanova/Is a little out of my line.” Brilliant! Randy Crawford - Single Woman, Married Man Auburn - 10 - Period Gateau - 10 - Originally I docked this a couple points because she was lamenting the relationship too much, until I was notified that wasn’t exactly part of the prompt. You hit it all otherwise. Great job!. Luckystrike - 10 - Damn, she’s down bad. Supaspaz - 10 - The best selection of this round. She’s so swept away in love with this married man that she knows she can never fully have that she’ll settle for scraps. LeAnn Rimes - Borrowed Auburn - 9 - A few points could have been stronger but overall very solid imo. I know she wrote this from personal experience, poor Brandi. Gateau - 8.5 - Hits the points but just leans a bitttt too much into the lamentation aspect and not enough of the delusionally crazy in love aspect. Luckystrike - 8 - It’s fine! It doesn’t blow it out of the park but it gets the job done pretty well. Supaspaz - 9 - Is this one autobiographical for LeAnn? With more of a nod to the secrecy, I would have bumped it up to a perfect score.
