smholiv Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Spoiler Fiona Apple - Cosmonauts I’ve actually never made it through this album. I guess I can see why people like it because it’s so ~experimental but idk it’s not enjoyable for me. So this is my first time listening to this song! This sort of reminds me of a few other older Fiona songs that I like so I enjoy that. I like how it builds actually, it gets explosive at the end which is great - a cool rush. I actually like some of the more atmospheric moments though. A nice entry. Carly Rae Jepsen - Fever This is really fun and I was not expecting that! I like the chorus quite a bit. It’s a bit on the mellow side, and I wish it was a touch more explosive but it has this great feel-good vibe to it. My favourite Carly song in the round and definitely a song i’ll remember and go back to. Aaliyah - Loose Rap Yeah this is THE classic. Great choice! This album has stellar singles and I honestly feel like this is the album track that comes closest to matching the insane quality of them. This combines everything we love about Aaliyah’s music all at once and does it excellently. There’s a glow to this song, it’s so smooth but slick idek. Will be very high for me. Carly Rae Jepsen - EMOTION I can’t say this does anything for me :gayfries: It’s very “there” and feels kind of blah to me. THe chorus annoys me a lot and yeah her vocals. I’m sorry, but I don’t like this very much. A bit surprised that this is one of the fan favourites from this album. SZA - Go Gina A bit of an unusual choice from this album but I can’t say I’m mad or anything. I actually think this is a cool example of why CTRL is such a great album. There’s a randomness/stream of conscious vibe to it that makes it so endearing. It's rough around the edges and feels very natural? Solid bop, will do well by me. Carly Rae Jepsen - Warm Blood It’s nice that she tried to be different but not vibing with this. Her vocals tend to be the thing I dislike most about her songs and it definitely feels way too hollow on this song :gayfries: maybe this would grow Tame Impala - The Moment This album has some kind of GRIP on games sjjlss. I definitely appreciated it more in the past than now but I mean, every great Tame Impala song is a great Tame Impala song I guess? Like I still enjoy this, very cool vibe super chilled out. St. Vincent - Neutered Fruit It’s the CLASSIC! I was thinking of this album myself when I was looking for entries. I would’ve sent a different song but who cares the album is a masterpiece!! I love this song, it’s got this like funky/almost psychedelic vibe to it that she does spectacularly. Her vocals are just really pretty and give this a fairytale vibe idk :gayfries: I also like when it gets noisy and fast paced Paramore - Pool I was wondering where they were jflsjsf. Like when I added them to our spreadsheet I was surprised this is the first time they were sent when usually they’re go-to artists. This is pretty fun, it gives me nostalgia and feels like a golden pop-rock song. There’s a slight haze to their vocals that I enjoy. It’s not a highlight of this round but I liked it quite a bit! Sufjan Stevens - Chicago I’m only familiar with Age of Adz and Carrie & Lowell so thank you for sending a risk/unexpected song! I actually think this is kind of stunning? Like i’m shook a bit, this will be really high for me. I really loved the big band feel of this, like the instrumental is gorgeous. This might be one of my new favourites from him, thank you! M.I.A. - Come Around Idk not much to say. I wasn’t a fan of this sorry Lorde - Sober Idc i love Lorde ff. She’s definitely one of my faves and I think it’s because she’s so inspirational for me songwriting wise. I really appreciate her lyricism and it’s inspired my own writing a lot. This is a classic album for sure, and I love this song (though i’ll be honest it’s actually not my fave from the album). I’ll rank this well but I would say I like a few other songs more. Tom Vercetti Posted September 23, 2021 Posted September 23, 2021 Fiona Apple - Cosmonauts - Not one of my faves from her. It's okay. Carly Rae Jepsen - Fever - This is one of the songs that reminds me why I prefer side B over side A. Aaliyah - Loose Rap - Her whole album is golden so naturally I use this. Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion - Used to enjoy this but not so much anymore. SZA- Go Gina - I got nothing from this unfortunately. Carly Rae Jepsen - Warm Blood - The instrumental is a little interesting but besides that this has never gripped me. Tame Impala - The Moment - Not a song i'd voluntarily seek out but I don't mind it either. St. Vincent - Neutered Fruit - Great song. One of my SM's faves. Paramore - Pool - I'm not the biggest paramore fan but I like this one. The bridge was a nice touch. Sufjan Stevens - Chicago: I have some positive nostalgia with this song and the album it's from. Yeah it's long but he makes it work here. M.I.A. - Come Around - I like M.I.A but this doesn't stick to me. Lorde - Sober - Decent enough.
Fruity Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Spoiler Fiona Apple - Cosmonauts: so you decided to send a song from fetch the bolt cutters Carly Rae Jepsen - Fever: anyways Aaliyah - Loose Rap: definitely a vibe. manages to be sparse yet complex at the same time. i randomly love the backing vocals during the feature Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion: i don't revisit this album basically ever but this is slick and really cute actually SZA- Go Gina: oh yes. this project just has one of the most unique sounds, an obvious choice for this round but i'm not mad at all. absolutely a modern classic album already. the way her vocal is so conversational yet melodic is so original and this track especially is just dripping in personality i'm obsessed Carly Rae Jepsen - Warm Blood: really, really bad. like a huge fail i'm really embarrassed for her actually. very hollow, trying too hard, vocals just dreadful, not a single element of this was pleasant Tame Impala - The Moment: hmmmmmmm yes transport me to another realm kevin, light the blunt baby this is so dreamy and gorgeous St. Vincent - Neutered Fruit: middling song from an amazing album without any misses so yeh, still a very decent choice Paramore - Pool: very run of the mill but cute enough Sufjan Stevens - Chicago: 6 minutes of magic M.I.A. - Come Around: it's different and kind of interesting sure but sorry who is pretending to actually like this? her flow is kinda turrible. the song in general is so random and jarring throughout. maybe if it was in a movie or if I was at a party but otherwise, hard pass Lorde - Sober: it lacks the magic of many superior melodrama tracks... but I enjoy it regardless x Spoiler @Touch It @Kavish @Alena @Noah @Tom Vercetti @Drifloon @luckystrike @Not Like The Movies @ughgabriel @PinkBox @Element @Psycho

PinkBox Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Fiona Apple - Cosmonauts Ok yeah this was nice, especially liked the intensity in her voice at the end Carly Rae Jepsen - Fever Very generic, it's fine Aaliyah - Loose Rap Wasn't interesting to me unfortunately, I just don't really like chill songs, they need something more to keep my attention Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion It's really just fine, absolutely nothing noteworthy SZA- Go Gina Another chill song, sorry these aren't for me, I was shocked at the end to see that it was less than 3 mins because it felt much longer Carly Rae Jepsen - Warm Blood I guess this was the least generic of the 3 carly songs, it was okay Tame Impala - The Moment Um... it's not for me either, it was very repetitive and not very... nice St. Vincent - Neutered Fruit Eh..... WHY all these chill songs, we hate to see it, but I guess it's better than the others kinda Paramore - Pool It was cute, nothing special but it was nice Sufjan Stevens - Chicago Wasn't as bad as I was expecting, this was nice as well M.I.A. - Come Around The word that I would use to describe this song is "interesting"... Lorde - Sober I don't even play many song games and I feel like this is sent every single time But this was a weak round to me so it's still ranking well
Touch It Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 what's wrong with chill!!!! CELINE IS CHILL
Psycho Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Fiona Apple - Cosmonauts: Carly Rae Jepsen - Fever: excellent song excellent EP Aaliyah - Loose Rap: I like it, it has a nice beat and harmonies Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion: that was a classic, that was a classic SZA- Go Gina: It's just decent Carly Rae Jepsen - Warm Blood: bottom 3 on emotion but still excellent Tame Impala - The Moment: a bop, glad i got into this excellent album St. Vincent - Neutered Fruit: I haven't really cared for her music beside MASSEDUCTION and Digital Witness. It's fine Paramore - Pool: A cute bop Sufjan Stevens - Chicago: don't care at all for his music. 6 minutes that being said it's not the worst this round M.I.A. - Come Around: it's kind of a jam Lorde - Sober: it's a classic what can i say
ughgabriel Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 fiona apple - cosmonauts this is really good! i honestly haven’t listened to a lot of her music but this impressed me and i kind of see what the hype is about! i really liked when she started screaming, love the visceral nature of that part :shy: carly rae jepsen - fever, nausea, dizziness, migraine, etc aaliyah - loose rap i like her runs and the backing vocals during the feature’s verse. i don’t love this but it’s fine, i wish it was less repetitive carly rae jepsen - emotion you know there is something unique about carly’s voice, and i get it’s not for everyone but i dig it. this song, however, is very cheap sounding. i thought i didn’t like it but honestly the melodies are cute, but the production is a big problem for me on this one sza - go gina i honestly don’t care which song you choose from this album, it’s gonna get a good rating from me. her voice is very pretty and the production is very lo fied which i love <3 carly rae jepsen - warm blood i really love this song! idc, there is something very hypnotic about the instrumental. the chorus is very pretty and dark in my opinion. i don’t use this album besides a couple of tracks and this is one of them tame impala - the moment i’m not going to lie, this is pleasing but it isn’t memorable? i don’t think i could tell you how the song goes if you asked me. i think they have more memorable songs and this one just feels like a lesser version of other songs from the same album. the bridge, however, was great st. vincent - neutered fruit it’s cute. i haven’t heard much of her before but this sounds chill and memorable at least paramore - pool god i hate the fact that this is their highest rated album. it lacks so much identity and this song is no exception. i think i’m vibing with it because hayley’s voice sells the song but it’s just alright sufjan stevens - chicago a king! i love him so much :grimes: futile devices was my original entry but i got scared hehe m.i.a. - come around i only use timbaland’s parts. if it was just him, it would be a cute interlude lorde - sober very good! when i first read one of her interviews of the album i was very excited for this track. i really like this, yes
thecptz Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Fiona Apple - Cosmonauts whew okay this song has been hitting me so hard and i have to say that its bagels impact when he pinged me and said you and i will be like a couple of cosmonauts anyways, i LOVE this song. i love how it keeps switching and like her voice in this and the emotion literally, just WOW. amazing pick and i hope u win or like get a high placement Carly Rae Jepsen - Fever urgh this is such a bop and kinda emotional in some way i think it's one of my faves from side b and i still like it now even though i don't kinda listen to it still love like the production and the feelings it gave me while listening Aaliyah - Loose Rap yea i think i feel pretty okay-ish with this? it feels like it needs more time for me to like get used to it and it doesn't hit me in my first listen but i still enjoyed it a lil bit.. its just that it needs time to grow on me! Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion whew i always feel that this song is somehow underrated on the album and it deserves more recognition or whatever the word is its an amazing song and i love this with all my heart ur very true and real SZA- Go Gina omg this is such a big bop and i miss listening to it tbh.. i feel like i don't really listen to it much compared to other ctrl songs but its still amazing and its such a big vibe like its such a song you want to listen to whenever!! nice job Carly Rae Jepsen - Warm Blood another underrated song from emotion i think ive been liking it since the release yea and like the production is very interesting this is why emotion is rlly one of the best albums and i said that!!! a great choice x Tame Impala - The Moment tame impala will never be for me i think but at least, this is better than i expected, so u might make some point with that. St. Vincent - Neutered Fruit again... this one is just not for me and i have a hard time getting through all 4:13 mins of this song it's weird cause i feel like i like some of st. vincent's stuff but this one is just no Paramore - Pool this feels very cute and very middle of the road for me and i don't think i have anymore opinions on this apart from that it's at least better than some of the songs here and yea very okay-ish!!!! Sufjan Stevens - Chicago um so... i love the production and i think it's pretty cool and overall, such a vibey song however, it still feels a bit middle of the road for me and i don't know why it has to be like 6 mins long M.I.A. - Come Around i felt kinda eh when it started and when it went on for a bit, i thought i was gonna start liking it but sadly... i just can't really like this. it's a bit annoying and i feel like it's making me confused with everything. what really is life? Lorde - Sober OH THANK YOU. at least we ended this round with such an amazing song again, love this song with all my heart and also love lorde with all my heart so definitely a plus for me this is everything!!!! its like a song you dance to whenever you want and its just fun and carefree and definitely an amazing pick ,, kisses! Noah Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Fiona Apple - Cosmonauts - actually really enjoyed this for like the first 3 minutes Carly Rae Jepsen - Fever - a huge bop Aaliyah - Loose Rap - this was cute Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion - another huge bop from her this one does hit a bit more than the previous but it might be bc nostalgia SZA- Go Gina - very beautiful chill bop Carly Rae Jepsen - Warm Blood - her best song idc what anyone else says Tame Impala - The Moment - yaaas tame so dreamy St. Vincent - Neutered Fruit - a cute moment Paramore - Pool - oh yes really love this especially the production Sufjan Stevens - Chicago - ahh I love sufjan & this very beautiful song M.I.A. - Come Around - love some of her other work but this was not doing much for me unfortunately Lorde - Sober - a smash every song from this album is so incredible
ATRL Moderator Element Posted September 24, 2021 ATRL Moderator Posted September 24, 2021 Fiona Apple - Cosmonauts This was kind of interesting. I wasn't crazy about the final minute, but the rest was reasonably nice. Carly Rae Jepsen - Fever I like this enough. Middle of the 3 Carly entries for me. Aaliyah - Loose Rap Very smooth and enjoyable. I really like her vibe throughout and the feature isn't annoying, which I feared at the start. Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion My favorite of the 3 Carly entries this round tbh! SZA- Go Gina This was boring af. Felt like an interlude that was like nice but uninteresting. Carly Rae Jepsen - Warm Blood I think this song is dire and horrific; an off-key and troglodytic attempt to be artsy. Tame Impala - The Moment A cool vibe at times. Liked the instrumental. St. Vincent - Neutered Fruit This didn't really connect with me on first listen. I will have to try it again. Paramore - Pool A cute little Paramore moment - doesn't have their normal punch imo Sufjan Stevens - Chicago It was kind of quirky and different. Very indulgent tho M.I.A. - Come Around I am VERY curious to see what the thought process behind this choice was because gurl Lorde - Sober As tired I am of seeing Lorde in these games, I won't deny this is a good track!
Not Like The Movies Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Fiona Apple - Cosmonauts - you b*tch, I tried to send this. Great song. Carly Rae Jepsen - Fever - I don’t like any songs on any of her side B’s, it’s okay Aaliyah - Loose Rap - excellent song Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion - pop perfection SZA- Go Gina - love this song and album so much, she really did what the girls struggle to do by making a flawless album Carly Rae Jepsen - Warm Blood - such a bop, irdk why this is getting hated on tbh I’ve always like it kii Tame Impala - The Moment - this album is so good, great song St. Vincent - Neutered Fruit - it’s alright, I don’t think I like it much tbh Paramore - Pool - this is okay, not a big fan Sufjan Stevens - Chicago - excellent song, absolutely amazing M.I.A. - Come Around - not bad as people say it is, it’s better than a few in the list Lorde - Sober - exactly and I told her, I said m‘aam…
Kavish Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 (edited) ⸸ Kavish ⛧ Kritiques ⸸ ~ Fiona Apple – Cosmonauts The intricacies of the song demand attention due to the instrumental and vocal acrobatics, but it becomes a satisfactory journey once it grips. The explosive outro seals its brilliant status. Carly Rae Jepsen – Fever The thumping beat in the pre-chorus and the chorus is inviting, but the toned-down verses and the bridge subdue the excitement. Aaliyah - Loose Rap Static complements Aaliyah's voice smoothly and it's overall a chill song, with the ad-libs adding a welcome layer to her sultry vocals. It feels a bit moderate compared to some entries here though. Carly Rae Jepsen – Emotion The verse, pre-chorus, and chorus are each distinctively infectious and gel together to create a euphonious experience. As the title track, it encapsulates the general gist of the album perfectly. SZA- Go Gina The background atmosphere is entrancing, as if floating in an astral realm, and her vocal delivery is commendable. Carly Rae Jepsen - Warm Blood The production unleashes from the first chorus onwards and keeps me engaged until the end. The vocal effect during "You catch me when I'm falling for you" is also a nice touch. Tame Impala - The Moment Dreamy and foot-tap inducing. I appreciate the unconventional structure of the song, and the chorus paired with the bassline and synth-ful outro are captivating. St. Vincent - Neutered Fruit Like with Fiona's "Cosmonauts", it requires several listens to fully be immersed in its complexity, but it's rewarding once it hits. Her background vocals are gospel-y, and the bridge and outro create a chaotic ambiance that tingles my senses. Paramore – Pool Paramore has many songs that tugs at my heartstrings but this one ties them. By no means a bad song - I like the use of percussion and the chorus - but I don't emotionally connect to it (or her) the same way I embrace most of their songs. Sufjan Stevens – Chicago Immaculate production and catchy chorus. The trumpets and additional vocals throughout the song elevate it even more. An escapist masterpiece. M.I.A. - Come Around This was the second M.I.A. song that I was hooked to after "Paper Planes" and thus began my love story with Maya. The South-Asian sample coupled with the fun chorus produce such a contagious track. Timbaland could do no wrong in the late 2000s, but much of the song's radiance is due to her as well. Lorde – Sober Impeccable production. The trumpets are an enthralling element and the bridge takes it to the next level. :alena: ~ Edited September 24, 2021 by Kavish

Overprotected Posted September 24, 2021 Author Posted September 24, 2021 Spoiler Fiona Apple - Cosmonauts - Gorgeous song and in my top 3 of the album. The lyrics are very lovely, the main hook is catchy and her vocals are raw and powerful, she snapped. Carly Rae Jepsen - Fever - The beginning made me think for a sec that Say It Right was playing, and well that would’ve been a much better listening experience. This is very bland even by her standards. Aaliyah - Loose Rap - You can’t go wrong with sending anything from this album, a chill vibey bop with immaculate production. Carly Rae Jepsen - Emotion - Meh the chorus is kinda cute but not cute enough to make up for the fact that her voice annoys me :emma: SZA- Go Gina - I’ve heard better from this album, this one is decent, inoffensive but it just passes me by. Carly Rae Jepsen - Warm Blood - Oh this one has a more interesting production than her other songs this round. It drags a lil bit but it’s decent overall. Tame Impala - The Moment - I know everyone says all of their songs sound the same, and I agree in the sense that the production is nice to listen to and I wouldn’t turn it off, but it’s still one of my least faves from the album, it’s just not very memorable. St. Vincent - Neutered Fruit - Ahh her second best album!! This is very lovely I love the ethereal vocals in the background and the way the chorus starts to build to an explosive end. Paramore - Pool - It’s decent, not very memorable for a paramore song but I enjoyed the instrumental. Sufjan Stevens - Chicago - Oop here is the classic, the storytelling, the production, the instrumental :praise: M.I.A. - Come Around - Hmm this is an inchresting choice… I was bopping a bit to the dun da dun da da dun da parts ngl. Lorde - Sober - This didn’t do much for me tbh I was kinda interested in the switch up near the end but it didn’t last long. You'll probably still do well tho!!
Kelp Posted September 24, 2021 Posted September 24, 2021 Cosmonauts - I used to love her but I’m not as into her now, this is a better track from her though Fever - this is just so bland to me, I mean I guess those hits in the prechorus are nice but this is so boring to me Loose Rap - really cool, love the whole vibe here, it’s so seductive with the minor chords Emotion - her best song and that includes RAWMe! I love the verses a lot ad that synth that sounds like a spring, her voice still sounds like… that but eh Go Gina - I like this and her voice but I sometimes wish her songs had more concrete melodies instead of just wandering around Warm Blood - really do not enjoy this one The Moment - this has a really nice groove and the production is so clean, and it’s not like 20 minutes long like his other songs I heard. Nice! Neutered Fruit - ahhh I love this album!! This is not my favorite track from it, but I still like it Pool - never listened to this album, I just love love her voice, not crazy about this song otherwise it’s kind of bland Chicago - a classic yup! This album has such a special place in my heart, it probably subconsciously got me to move to Illinois tbh! Love seeing how well this is doing Come Around - this is such a random choice adksfjklas and I like Timbaland too, but I don’t enjoy this at all sorry Sober - Ngl I will be mad if she wins again, like enough she needs to be permanently banned from this game or something. I don’t really like her but I like this song x
