Navyofbadgals Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 (edited) MISERABLE AMERICA - cute. It doesn't blow me away but it's a nice example of modern rap regardless B.O.B. - I feel like this took some time to really start up. I loved it near the ending but the first half of the song is a bit rougher P.I.M.P. - I feel like its saving grace is that it has some nostalgia to it. It doesn't really stack up to some of the high quality songs sent this round LOVE. - one of the best songs on DAMN. and probably the most accessible one too. Very nice SWIMMING POOLS - great song! don't have much else to say but this is great yeah MO MONEY MO PROBLEMS - the sample is quite a smart way to find a loophole in this round. This is great, and such a foundation for so much of the careers of many male rappers we have rn NICE FOR WHAT - I feel like the impact of Mo Money Mo Problems is really felt on this song. Drake's ability to have songs with lots of crossover appeal is truly his best trait. This is easily one of his best too. The Lauryn sample is heavenly LOTUS FLOWER BOMB - ALRIGHT - one of the best songs of all time!! SICKO MODE - modern day bohemian rhapsody.. but GOOD yeah i said it Spoiler @Touch It @Kavish @Alena @Noah @Tom Vercetti @Drifloon @Not Like The Movies @ughgabriel @Guero @PinkBox @Element @Psycho Edited September 25, 2021 by Navyofbadgals
Fruity Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 (edited) not doing extensive critiques because well.. u know why but yeh cute choices, mostly! Kevin Abstract - Miserable America: hmm im kinda jamming not much more to say its nice! OutKast - B.O.B.: big bop. there's a lot going on nn but i grew to appreciate as the song developed and built! hectic in a good way 50 Cent - P.I.M.P.: the beat is kind of so iconic. I feel like I only really hear this in clubs and that's generally enough for me but I'm not mad at it showing up here, in fact I'm listening after finishing all the songs and I'm BOPPING! Kendrick Lamar - Love: it's mostly pretty boring and uneventful. the zicari parts are kind of pretty, i guess? no comment on the rest. the lyrics completely washed over me Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools: honestly one of my worst music opinions is that i kinda hate Kendrick's general voice/tone I wish I did not... but I do. Having said that he's doing less of that weird half singing half talking thing here... and I kind of always liked this! The Notorious B.I.G. - Mo Money Mo Problems: middle of the road classic. the sample gets a bit repetitive and annoying Drake - Nice For What: YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I wanted this one so bad!!! The pacing is so gorgeous and the way everything comes together with him rapping over Lauryn >> it's serving GENIUS!!! Wale - Lotus Flower Bomb ft. Miguel: btw this isnt even good to me I feel it would likely be last anyway Kendrick Lamar - Alright: a well put together song with an extremely powerful + epic message. also when the saxophone comes in > Travis Scott - Sicko Mode: modern classic and for good reason. it's really impressive that a song as inaccessible as this has 1.5bn streams. not the kind of song i would listen to a lot since it's a bit disjointed and jarring, but in a good/intentional way Spoiler @Touch It @Kavish @Alena @Noah @Tom Vercetti @Drifloon @Not Like The Movies @ughgabriel @Guero @PinkBox @Element @Psycho Edited September 25, 2021 by Fruity
Staryu Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 Kevin Abstract - Miserable America Started off boring but it really took off 1 minute in and I liked it a lot more OutKast - B.O.B. I like how hectic/chaotic some of Outkast's songs are, it has great energy, a little messy but I still use 50 Cent - P.I.M.P. A fun bop love the steel drums Kendrick Lamar - Love This is a softer side of Kendrick, it's very lovely, chill vibes Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools (drank) I like the chorus (drank) I like the story it tells (drank) I like his flow (drank) The Notorious B.I.G. - Mo Money Mo Problems A classic classic, it feels very fun and summery, I don't agree about the message of the song, give me all the monies Drake - Nice For What I love this song and not just b/c of the sample, it gets me hype, this is one of Drake's best for me Wale - Lotus Flower Bomb ft. Miguel U dun goofed Kendrick Lamar - Alright A hopeful bop, one of Pharrell's best productions tbh Travis Scott - Sicko Mode It's lit I guess bro, it has some interesting moments
Touch It Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 male rap round Kevin Abstract - Miserable America: this is very meh. it's nice and harmless but it's not something I'd purposely listen to again. OutKast - B.O.B. - this is very long for no reason, some parts have a really good flow but most of the song is very tiring to me 50 Cent - P.I.M.P. - really like the beat to this, it's fun and nice Kendrick Lamar - Love: this song is very nice and vibey <3 not my favorite from damn at all but it's still great Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools: oh this classic I was always listening to this and poetic justice back when these came out The Notorious B.I.G. - Mo Money Mo Problems: oh this CLASSIC have always loved this I think its kinda dumb for the female vocals part bc i wanted to see MEN only throughout every song since that was the purpose of the round #WOMANHATER #LOOPHOLEHATER Drake - Nice For What: YESSS HIS BEST SONG. love the lauryn sample even though i am a woman hater Wale - Lotus Flower Bomb ft. Miguel: I like this! sorry about the u though </3 Kendrick Lamar - Alright: this easy #1 one of the best songs of all time Travis Scott - Sicko Mode: oh YEAH this song is very very good a classic already I fear..
Noah Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 Kevin Abstract - Miserable America - I really love this and the artist OutKast - B.O.B. - it has a lot going on and I like some aspects of it 50 Cent - P.I.M.P. - definitely I thought it was fun, I like the beat Kendrick Lamar - Love - beautiful underrated classic Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools - bop The Notorious B.I.G. - Mo Money Mo Problems - ms ross kind of overshadows the rest of this song but it’s a cute bop Drake - Nice For What - yeah this is a huge bop and one of his best Wale - Lotus Flower Bomb ft. Miguel - this is a cute sing sorry about your situation Kendrick Lamar - Alright - another huge classic from him Travis Scott - Sicko Mode - I like drake’s intro but have never been a big fan of this overall

Dessy Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 My comments don't matter in any way shape or form. I'm just here for a great time. I'm invading this game from the grave Spoiler Kevin Abstract - Miserable America: i see you. You smart with taste ? OutKast - B.O.B.: man what a classic 50 Cent - P.I.M.P.: dude what a vintage song [2] Kendrick Lamar - Love: this godly song is a freak of nature. Truly Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools: first song i remember hearing from Kendrick and i didn't know it was him at the time, i spent weeks trying to find this song based on the sound ? Amazing! The Notorious B.I.G. - Mo Money Mo Problems: bro what a song that set the standard [3] Drake - Nice For What: the power drake had over me with his 3 singles. This song alone… chef's kiss Wale - Lotus Flower Bomb ft. Miguel: homie what an exemplar [4] Kendrick Lamar - Alright: You gon be alright! Him balancing going hard with the rap with a catchy chorus. He learned well Travis Scott - Sicko Mode: legendary song that ended Ariana! I know the gays were mad. The way they really complement each other on this song. Buddy what an epitome of music [5]

ughgabriel Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 (edited) kevin abstract - miserable america this is very nice, it has a very upbeat nature that captures my attention but at the same time i feel like they didn’t reach what they were aiming for? i feel like it tried to be a powerful song but this feels like the disney channel’d version of this is america if that makes sense. i like it overall, i just found it a little cheesy outkast - b.o.b. (bombs over baghdad) this is honestly reaaaally fun. probably my favorite discovery from the round. i feel like the song could’ve ended before that “bob your head, rag top” bridge, though. this guy’s flow during 1:45 and when those electronics beats appeared omg, i loved that!! this feels very unconventional and even experimental compared to most contemporary rap songs. i love that 50 cent - p.i.m.p. this is a classic. there was a bar i used to go where they’d always play 90’s and early 00’s hip hop songs and everyone used to go crazy when this one came on. i love this. love the tropical vibes, always makes me think of a mario kart island n kendrick lamar - love. feat. zacari. i love this song. it’s fun that i heard it for this first time at work like two months ago and i was like “wait, what is thaaaat?” and instantly shazam’d it and saved it. i loveeeeeee it, great job <3 kendrick lamar - swimming pools (drank) no the notorious b.i.g. - mo money mo problems (feat. puff daddy & mase) another classic. i love the sample and i love all their verses. i think this is basically the epitome of old school hip hop and this song is basically timeless, so yeah, good job drake - nice for what this is a really nice song, honestly. i do think it’s a bit overrated because i wouldn’t consider this to be one of his best but everyone has a different opinion, so all cool. i love the hook but the rest isn’t too memorable to me. but it’s pretty fun. from 2:30 onwards, it’s greeeeat wale - lotus flower bomb (feat. miguel) i love the synthy beat that comes and goes and wale’s verses are really good. i really like miguel but i actually didn’t appreciate his chorus and additions to the song that much. overall it’s a pretty chill bop, yeah i use kendrick lamar - alright this is a booop! it’s pretty fun and one of my favorites of him. i don’t like his voice but there are songs where it works, this is one of them. i want to twerk yes, i don’t too much attention to the lyrics so i’m sorry if i’ll be shaking my ass to something political x travis scott - sicko mode i don’t get this song. maybe i just haven’t acquired the taste to like this but i’ve been listening to this song almost 4 times a week for the past 4 months because of my job but it hasn’t grown on me. i can tolerate it, i think it’s inventive, i don’t think it’s awful, i’m just not into it :/ Edited September 25, 2021 by ughgabriel
mokitsu Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 (edited) Spoiler Kevin Abstract - Miserable America: This was really powerful to me at like 16 living in a small town and I felt finally represented. I think the melodies and production are really sweet with some great moments, I love how it's constantly shifting from one sound to another. That said, the lyrics are very in your face and kinda cringe and juvenile at times, which doesn't work that well for me anymore. OutKast - B.O.B.: I appreciate how hectic it is and how little the production changes throughout the song. It feels like you're a hamster running in a wheel, kinda crazy and claustrophobic. 50 Cent - P.I.M.P.: Cute pop rap moment. Really enjoy the production, doesn't hit as hard as some of my faves here but it's a good listen. Kendrick Lamar - Love: So corny. Liked this when I first heard the album, it's a cute R&B moment, but it got really grating after radio hopped on it. Very one note. Not feeling it. Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools: Yeah legendary song. Not having grown up with rap, this was one of the first songs I really latched onto when I was like 13. I love this section80 - gkmc era of his music. The Notorious B.I.G. - Mo Money Mo Problems: Doesn't live up to its sample. Feels like when artists release a remix of a great pop song with meh verses that you never listen to again. Drake - Nice For What: Hasn't aged a day tbh. Really amazing feel good song, the sample is used all over the song but doesn't feel annoying or overused in any moment. Was definitely a cultural moment and I love it. Wale - Lotus Flower Bomb ft. Miguel: Kendrick Lamar - Alright: One of the best rap songs ever. Love it to death. Great choice. Travis Scott - Sicko Mode: Still get chills when this comes on. The I GOT A BOY of rap I guess.... Too bad Drake comes up again in the end for like 2 minutes to drag it down. smholiv Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 GREAT ROUND/ENTRIES!!! I LIKE BASICALLY EVERYTHING Kevin Abstract - Miserable America I definitely like the production on this one. The way it shifts between different styles is really captivating and helps set up the story/statement that the song has really nicely I think. I agree with a few others that the lyrics occasionally get a bit too on-the-nose for me where I think it'd hit stronger if the songwriting was a bit more subtle and nuanced. I should explore his discography a bit more tbh, this was a fun discovery. Outkast - B.O.B (Bombs over Baghdad) Yet another addition to their immaculate discography yup. Fast paced, high energy the whole way through. Big classic! 50 Cent - P.I.M.P. A verryyyy nostalgic moment~ solid choice, though I don't adore it. It's a bit on the repetitive side Kendrick Lamar - LOVE I loved this a lot when I first got into DAMN. and I still think its an incredible soft/tender moment which I greatly appreciated. Doesn't hit quite as hard as the first few times but still it's just... just feels man idk :feeling: Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools (Drank) Massive classic. This was my introduction to Kendrick as a whole and came out around the apex of me discovering my own music taste, independent of other influences so it has a lot of nostalgic weight for me. Weird fact this album and Taylor Swift's Red came out around the same time and I distinctly remember buying both and being obsessed with both. I think in a lot of ways those two albums shaped my music taste as a whole and thus it continues to live on as a golden moment for me. Now I guess if someone asks me what my music taste is I'll point to those two albums and throw in f(x) just to throw them off a little more I guess~ It'll be hard to rank this song since I admit he's done better since but I'll try to balance nostalgia and my current thoughts. Great entry though. Notorious B.I.G. - Mo Money Mo Problems NOT this evergreen classic. Will try to make this high, I love this song Drake - Nice For What One of his best singles as a whole, probably easily his best single in recent memory. Clever use of the sample and just a very solid moment in his gigantic discography Wale - Lotus Flower Bomb n/a Kendrick Lamar - Alright This is what I was thinking I'd send and it's looking GOOD for you We'll see what happens when I go back but yeah this is like a shining moment on a staple album which is VERY impressive. One of the strong suits of TPAB was the ways it incorporated jazz/soul/funk seamlessly and with purpose. That definitely helps accelerate a song like this to new heights. The whole thing is just so balanced well and I think even after everything this is still one of his shining moments~ Travis Scott - SICKO MODE Byeeee this is the classic. AMAZING ENTRY!!
