You got the job done though. Mixtape: You definitely established diversity with these songs selections: latin funk pop in "Calling All Hearts," synth pop with "Seal Me with a Kiss," the staple *dated* classic with "Domino," the emotional ballad with "Who You Are," and the more modern R&B/Pop sound of "Queen." Now... would I personally listen to any of these songs ever again? Most likely not. But you more than established a feeling of diversity with this mixtape. Good job. Explanation: Effective explanation. You kept it cute. Overprotected || MARIAH CAREY Photos: I'm just kinda nodding and smiling at the photo selection. I think you should've perhaps picked 3-4 looks that were in contrast with each other. Not just one photo. I felt like the "rainbow = diversity" explanation was kinda lazy. Mixtape: You definitely gave us every flavor of Mariah. I don't know if I could've done better myself. Explanation: I loved how you broke down how your mixtape songs fit within the idea of diversity as a whole. Really great explanation. Psycho || LADY GAGA Photos: GENIUS photo selection. This met gala look and the entire performance was literally the definition of diversity. Mixtape: This mixtape was a little weak for me. I don't know how you could exclude the live country/rock/folk ballad "Shallow," but include both "Always Remember Us This Way" and "I'll Never Love Again" when they're so similar. The other songs made sense together, for the most part. It wasn't all bad. Explanation: Yup yup yup. You broke it down effectively. Not Like The Movies || BEYONCÉ Photos: Again, I don't really know how you could submit just one photo with one particular look to show diversity. And then just this one underwater look in particular? I don't think you really hit the mark at all. Mixtape: Loved your background vocals pick. That really takes diversity to be able to be background music and not outshine the other artist, while having songs where your vocals are at the center focus (like 95% of her discography). That was really cool. I think you probably should've picked one of her pure pop songs to offer even more diversity, though. Maybe I would've swapped out either "Hold Up" or "Grown Woman" for one of those pop songs. And maybe I would've swapped out "NICE" for "APESHIT," offering a trap vibe. But that's probably just what I'd *personally* do, it doesn't effect your score. Explanation: Probably my favorite explanation. You PERFECTLY hit all of the points. @Psycho @Not Like The Movies @Overprotected @thecptz On 2/9/2020 at 1:56 PM, shelven said: Hi so Speezy hasn't mentioned this in the thread yet, but I'm judging this round because all the normal judges disappeared JESSIE J Mixtape: Excellent selections Every song sounded distinct from all the others and showed off a different side of Jessie's discography. These songs also have a great diversity in lyrical themes as well, with sexy songs, love songs, empowerment songs and vulnerable songs all in the mix. I don't really have anything else to add, I think you did exactly what the challenge asked for. Explanation: This could have maybe benefitted from being slightly more detailed - there's some ideas in here that are good but I would have liked a bit more of an elaboration on. Overall though, short and sweet isn't necessarily bad, and this gets the job done. Photo: Very clever choice to use a collage of photos, and this collage captures Jessie's diversity very well. Not only does it show off different hairstyles and types of fashion, but you also captured some of the diverse roles she plays (for example, with The Voice coaching pictures). Good job! MARIAH CAREY Mixtape: There's some great diversity of sound here! As someone who's never really explored Mariah's discography, I always thought a lot of her songs sounded similar, so you did a great job breaking that perception for me (particularly with Honey and You Don't Know What To Do which were both excellent choices for this round). My one small critique is I think this selection could have had a bit more diversity in lyrics/themes - throwing in a song that wasn't about love or sexual attraction would have made this perfect. Explanation: Whew, you went off with this explanation I love how you lead us through all 5 of your song choices in detail and clearly told us how they add to Mariah's diversity. I also think it was a great added touch to talk a bit about her background in the industry and how she became a diverse artist. Excellent job, I have nothing to add! Photo: I actually think this photo does a good job showing off how Mariah can both be sultry and sexy/playful at the same time. Maybe there could have been other choices that more clearly showed off her diversity, but I think this photo captures the feel of the mixtape quite well which was also one of the prompts for the photo, so it's a good choice. (Also, like with Touch It, I'm not gonna give a big range to the photo scores since I realized the instructions for it were vague) LADY GAGA Mixtape: Given how many different genres and sounds Gaga has explored throughout her career, I think there was an opportunity to go a bit more diverse on the sound (I was surprised not to see anything from ARTPOP and/or Cheek To Cheek), but overall I think this is still good way of exploring how Gaga's sound has evolved over her career. Where I think this mixtape really excels is diversity in lyrics and themes - the songs you've chosen do an excellent job at capturing a wide range of topics and emotions that make Gaga such a captivating artist. Explanation: You managed to fit a lot of strong points and detail into a relatively short submission which is difficult balance to find, so great job! I think you covered everything you needed to here - going through the diversity of your mixtape itself, Gaga's different roles outside of singing, her style and her overall evolution as an artist. Very well done! Photo: A really clever and strong choice to use this moment for your photo. Not only do the 4 individual outfits show her diversity of style, but the fact that they're all captured in the same moment shows how effortlessly she moves through that diversity. Your "Lady" and "Gaga" explanation was also very cute. Overall, excellent choice! BEYONCÉ Mixtape: This is a very very good selection of songs to capture Beyonce's diversity Every song sounds totally different from the others and is a clear reminder of all the different genres and sounds Beyonce moves through. The diversity in lyrical content and messages is just as strong, with Beyonce highlighting a totally different side of her personality in each one (jealously, female empowerment, sultry lover, confident/cocky). I'm not sure if I'm 100% sold on the value of using one of your 5 spots for a song where she only does background vocals - it's not a bad choice, I just wonder if maybe that spot could have been used better - but I think that was a very creative and original choice, so points for that. Explanation: Like with Gaga, I think you did a really good job packing a lot of detail and thoughts into a relatively short paragraph. You summarized all the different aspects of Beyonce's career well while still making sure to focus on your mixtape and her discography too. I don't really have anything to critique here, I think this did exactly what it needed to do. Photo: While the photo is definitely original and creative, I'm not sure how it really captures diversity in her career or in your mixtape. That being said, like I mentioned for Mariah, I get that the prompt for this part of the challenge was a bit unclear and so I'm going to keep the photo scores within a pretty small range. On 2/3/2020 at 12:44 AM, Touch It said: Jessie J photo: you SNAPPED with the collage of the photos. you truly showed how diverse she is through all these photos and even though the instructions were unclear, you creatively came up with this good idea yup. songs: EXCELLENT choices. from somebody who hasn't cared that much about jessie, this truly captivated me into wanting to listen to more songs by her. seal me with a kiss and calling all hearts are both bops and I'm happy I know about them now. every song that you chose is completely different from one another -> from disco to r&b to pop to a ballad to an experimental song, while all still sounding like a jessie j styled song. this truly showed her diversity. explanation: a very decent explanation, you said everything you had to be said about jessie and it was short and sweet. Mariah Carey photo: the photo is ICONIC but I don't rlly get what it has to do with diversity or the songs other than the fact that it says gay rights, but at the same time this part of the round was unclear so im giving every photo that I didn't like a .5 off only xo songs: all the songs were great choices (besides the spanish version of butterfly but that was a forced entry and it also shows bilingualism which is diversity so) I like that you included YDKWTD which is disco while also including songs that she excels in like the r&b and ballad songs. explanation: now this is how you write an excellent explanation, truly showed what mariah excels at and how she has so much talent that she's shown through the many years of her career Lady Gaga photo: cute. that met gala moment was rlly cute and iconic tbh and the look alone has a lot of diversity songs: all perfect choices, good job. all the songs have completely different genres, while still sticking to the true gaga sound that she was able to make throughout her career. you truly showed how she could go from fun pop bangers to experimental pop to heart-felt bangers. explanation: yup you explained everything super well and proved that gaga does have lots of diversity and success throughout her career. Beyonce photo: yeah this pic is really beautiful and powerful and shows her originality, I guess it shows her diversity in fashion songs: these were all really great songs to choose for this round. it truly showed the many different sides to beyonce and the many genres that she's able to excel in. from afropop to to reggae pop to rap to sex-inducing r&b, she really excels in all of the songs. explanation: absolutely perfect explanation. truly showed that you were strong throughout the whole entire game and also showed how diverse and successful beyonce is. great job ****************SPEEZY CRITICS************** Beyonce A TABS winning artist. She does have a lot of material to work with and have a great track record of collabs. Nonetheless yall came to play with all her card ready. Best Wishes Mixtape: Grown Woman was definitely unexpected but a bop that went unnoticed when it was released. It shows her growth and her fierceness. Tracks like Hold Up & Ape **** really were stellar because it was a different sound than what we were used to hearing from her. Hold Up was definitely a break from the other songs that had some type of noticeable rhythm. This mixtape was undeniably a bop and then some. Photo: I actually love this photo. Well my take on the photo without your explanation is that. She’s underwater, which has not been 100% explored and so many diverse and different things are still waiting to be found in these waters that surrounds our countries. With your explanation it does show off her art but on the fashion side it does not. Explanation: The explanations was good except I wish she showed off her country and rock side, in the mixtape. The mixtape still had that R&B/Urban vibe to almost every track. I do feel the photo explanation could’ve been better on the creative side, but I wont be up your ass about it. The summary towards the end was stellar, showing that not only she is a diverse artist but a diverse, caring human. Lady Gaga Her style and everything I have learned throughout this game. Gaga had the bops left and right and some moments. She almost did not make it to the final 4 sksksks. Both on and off the radios she is a force to be reckoned with. Break A Leg Mixtape: First, thank you for a playlist compiled with these, whew I stan.Okay this mixtape had you dancing and transitioned very well into calm and relaxing. Bad Romance is a staple in Gaga’s career and it manifests her artistry when she started. SchiebE was a bop. I am taken by Always Remember Us. The vocals and her ability to almost sound like a different artist is amazing. This mixtape did a great job of showing off her vocal skills and genre flexibility Photo: I really cackled at the photo. Its rather unique, showing off her sense of fashion and catching her personalities in each photo in this collage. It does a great job showing off Lady Gaga as person and entertainer, as well as her iconic fashion choices. Explanation: Gaga has easily and effortlessly walked her way to the top 4 without a competition tbh. The mixtape was well prepared and as your explanation stated, the genres were well selected. The explanation could’ve been a bit better and maybe even meatier in my opinion. Maybe a sentence or name drop of a diverse moment or charity she has. Jessie J First, I honestly did not expect Jessie to make this far as an artist. She can sing and hold a note but she had some iffy moments. But you knew her discography and brought out her best. Good Luck. Mixtape: OH WOW, A mixtape. I do appreciate this cute Spotify list. This mixtape does a great job of showing off Jessie’s bops and her vocal skills, Its really cohesive and her. Its actually hard to tell what genre is her main because like a few of her peers, they transition into R&B after they get their coins from the pop lovers. I appreciate how well this mixtape sounds thought, it was on repeat for a minute tbh. Though I was expecting something a little different to catch by surprise on the mixtape. Photo: I-, these collages are sending me. Like her wigs, Jessie J can change her style up many times. She can go from a bald smiling woman to a fierce, determined woman with hair. This photo moves me a little but not by much Explanation: A cute explanation. She did slay with her diverse genres and almost anything I did ask for. She did outsing almost everytime she was in a Singoff. The explanation seemed sorta rushed but at the same time it was short, simple and cute. Jessie J has one of the most recognizable voices in the industry, she is talented as you stated but we needed a little more depth about her diversity in music, like a reference back to your mixtape Mariah Carey You and Mariah made CHOICES this season. Almost in a sing-off every other week. I don’t know if you wanted to flop on purpose to knock out the artists who cant hold a note, but whatever your did worked. Godspeed! Mixtape: Another well put together Spotify mixtape. Honey is such a classic and a vibe, who doesn’t know this track. #Beautiful & You Don’t Know Me really took me by surprise, even though the Miguel collab was R&B it’s still surprising to hear such a good Spanglish track, YDKM was a R&Bpop/DANCE bop that I never knew she had. I feel like the Vision Of Love was there just to showcase her vocals on a track with not that many background interuptions.I love that this mixtape is cohesive in a way. It shows her flexibility and vocal ability. Wale was neat collab that she snatched up. Still no THIRSTY?! Photo: This photo does a lot. At first glance I thought why was Tinashe being used?..anyways The rainbow is just a reminder that she supports the gays and every color is included. Whew. Her laying there in a raunchy position hints at her music Explanation: You could’ve been a bit more creative with the photo explanation. Anyways, I love the way you explained each song choice and the way it reflects her career as a person. There was some thought put into this but of course you know your fave better than anyone.
