It was also late to peak on HAC. If they had all peaked at the same time its AI total would have been way higher. When WFL hit #1 with 90M+ AI on Pop, Rhythmic was slowing down fast but it was still climbing on HAC and thats why it stayed at #1 for so long and in the top 10 for so long. It crossed over to tropical airplay too and a little on urban. With Stay, it peaked on Pop and Rhythmic around the same time and had just entered the top 10 of HAC and AC too and was still climbing hence the eventual massive AI total. It also had good urban AC airplay which helped. Stay was #1/in the top 3 of 4/5 different formats around the same time I believe. Also, as im sure you know, even in 2010/2011 it was still rare for #1 songs (on average) to pass 100M on Pop, so 90M+ then was AMAZING. for songs like WFL, Rolling In The Deep, Firework etc. I dont think many of the massive hits got passed 80/90M+ on pop around the 2010-2012 years (maybe 1 or 2 did) and definitely not in the 2000s. . . . Btw... Idk what happened... Since 2012/2013, you have number one songs on Pop zooming passed 120M-130M+ AI when that wasnt the case 5/6/7 years ago. Has Pop increased its panel even more since then? Its WAAAAAYYYYY to high now. Pop and HAC have too much power kinda like urban and rhythmic between 2003-2007. They need to increase urban and rhythmic panels a little more now and decrease pop and hac panels a little bit. Theres no reason why today you can get an AI total between 140-180M+ (on average) with those formats combined and only between 70-80M+ (on average) with urban and Rhythmic combined. Ridiculous. Top 40 vastly overplays its biggest hits. The top songs are played 130+ times a week, or every 75-80 minutes. Anything over 84 spins, or once every two hours, is overkill for the songs.

Also, as I said, they need to decrease the panels that Pop and HAC have. Why should Pop and HAC combined produce a total (on average) of 140-180M AI at any given time with any hit that crosses over to both formats, yet Urban and Rhythmic combined can only produce a total of 70-80M AI combined. Thats rather unfair in my opinion. I dont want the Urban and Rhythmic panels to increase to how it was between 2003-2007 where they were the dominant formats, but I think Urban & Rhythmic hits combined should at least produce a total of 100/110M AI; 50M & 50M+ AI each, respectively, and decrease Pop and HAC to at least 120-160M AI for both. Even country hits can acquire up to 65-70M AI. Also, they need to increase the panels for Alternative and Active Rock - they are WAAAAAAY to low I feel. Why did radio increase Pop and HAC in the 1st place anyway, and decrease Urban and Rhythmic so much? I cant help but feel thats what helped kill R&B/Urban crossover/Urban AC songs post-2009 from gaining upper tier hot 100 success between 2010-2015. Edited March 14, 2017 by GoodGuyGoneGhetto

I'm a huge Rock fan, so of course I'd like to see those formats perform better on the Hot 100. That might lead to a little more crossover airplay.

Sinister Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Could it also be that not that many people listen to urban stations??? Like here in Boston there isn't an urban station we can listen to...just rhythmic Feel like pop stations are the go to stations in general...so it's up to pop to play those rock or alternative songs that could potentially increase the audience for those genre specific stations

On itunes, streaming, radio, Taylor is currently way above adele. Talent won. And remember, only Hello is the successful single from 25 while 1989 has Shake It Off, Blank Space, Style, Bad Blood and Wildest Dreams. Adele lost, 25 will be her last album because she will retire from music due to old age and health problem due to smoking. This user is really obsessed with Adele and her fans. I feel sorry for him, I really do. I watched 50 Shades Darker last night after all the hype and now I'm in love with I Don't Wanna Live Forever. The whole soundtrack is indeed great. I hope they eventually hit #1 on Pop since it's a song that's perfect for the format.
