I love that song too, that second Stacie Orrico album had some real gems on it such as this one, There's Gotta Be More (To Life), and I Could Be The One.

Yeah it's crazy how urban music-dominated radio was in the early 2000s, and I think a lot of pop songs were also heavily affected by the fact that HAC stations wouldn't spin white people pop songs the way they do today. Something like Hilary Duff's Come Clean reached number 9 at pop but 'only' number 35 on the Hot 100 because it had no HAC/AC support, even though if it came out today it would probably be a bigger HAC/AC hit than a pop one.

If I recall correctly, the early 2000s also marked the first time a song hit number one on pop radio (specifically the Billboard chart) without going top ten on the Hot 100, in the form of both JoJo's Leave (Get Out) and Jessica Simpson's With You.

In the late 90s-early 00s Hot AC was kind of a "Rock 40" format. If you were to watch VH1 Top 20 Countdowns around that time you would've noticed a plurality-slight majority of its songs leaned Rock.

The rock dominant years were from about 1998 to mid-2002. Things shifted towards more R&B/Hip Hop in late 2002, and of course that became the dominant genre on Hot AC in 2003 and 2004.

Elijah Woods X Jamie Fine - Ain't Easy (peaked in top 40)

bulow - not a love song (also peaked in top 40)

My favourite Canadian throwback song has to be Anjulie - You & I.

They are separate artists now. lol Jamie Fine's new song is playing on the radio right now at my work. Elijah Woods has been more successful tho.

This & HAC played quite a bit of crossover Country too. While HAC played some Rhythmic at the time, they largely avoided Rap. That's why I would still listen to some HAC LONG after T40 radio had alienated me. They played a great variety but is now close to what T40 was not that long ago. By looking at the HAC charts though I do see some Rock & Country titles listed. But offensive songs like Unholy now chart there as well. Maybe HAC can get back to what it was 10+ years ago when it was a great variety of songs. Since Birmingham doesn't have an Active Rock station I generally stream Pandora or occasionally the Pensacola & Tampa Bay Active Rock stations. When I listen to Country its the radio though.

@Ger-55 is You Proof really +0.62 today? If so that's quite impressive for a song that peaked several months ago & got very little crossover support.

Yes, all coming from Country, it has a positive bullet there.

Interesting, because to me VH1 feels like a female viewership dominated channel. Not that I could've been around to watch it in the late 90s, I wasn't even born till the mid-2000s!

Yeah their Countdowns included Audioslave, Foo Fighters, Three Doors Down, Creed, Metallica, Shinedown, Papa Roach, Puddle of Mudd, Finger 11, Jimmy Eat World, Nickelback, Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Seether, Evanescance, Nirvana & Staind among others 15-20 years ago. But they also had some Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Sheryl Crow, Carrie Underwood & the Dixie Chicks. Pink, Alanis Morrisite, Matchbox 20 & Meredith Brooks, who were in the Pop-Rock sphere were also very popular. VH1 adding Dilemma (Nelly & Kelly Rowland) & Destiny's Child was a BIG deal!

Not yet, I think there are 174 Pop radio stations, and it's been added by 133 so far.

Yes I feel like half of our stations are iHeartradio now. Umm not many Rhythmic the few we have get lumped into Top 40, or are independently owned. This is the most popular rhythmic station in Canada: https://flow987.com

And yes we use mediabase too: https://www.fyimusicnews.ca/fyi-charts/canadian-airplay-charts

I don’t see an overall chart. But Top 40 and Hot AC are the 2 with largest AI, so I mostly look at those 2. The other formals are extremely tiny.

I just checked Billboard.com. At 1 time BB listed Canada's Hot 100 3 metrics separately as BB in the US. I'll double check on my laptop in am but based on what I see on my phone all I now see for Canada is the H100 & albums.
