I remember in the early-mid 2010s, earlier in the streaming era, almost all hits would wind down in the same order:

 

1st Sales

2nd Airplay

3rd ODS 

4th Video streaming

 

But this began to change 2017-8, where people kept streaming songs ad nauseum & stop downloading them. As a result radio began playing the most streamed songs forever to keep listeners at the expense of new songs/artists.

 

I wish we had the early-mid 2010s music chart era again. Having multiple & almost equal metrics allowed songs to come & go more quickly. And yes, sales definitely helped speed up the Hot 100.

Blame GP, they actually take MONTHS to move on from the hits, it's what both callouts and streaming show. It's probably hard to believe for some here, but people really can still enjoy overplayed songs, based on my own experience at least. Although I agree programmers should be more aggressive sometimes, public's demand doesn't show a much different story than what we have right now.

and what some in this section dont seem to understand is that, we are not like the GP. We chart watch. We are up to date with ALL the new releases the moment they are released from all artists. We see the sons bubbling up on the horizon that may be huge down the line. We play the songs earlier than the GP. it's easy for us to be tired of songs when we are chart-watching...but the GP doesn't care about any of that. they will listen to the songs they like and the songs they hear. If they dont like it they'll change the station

 

some of these songs that get bashed for "overstaying" tend to be in the top 50 on spotify, knowing that positioning on these streaming charts are highly variable due to new releases

lol, these are the same people that have been arguing that Calm Down, which is months older than all of those songs, sounds fresh to them and should climb indefinitely. The fact of the matter is that all of these songs are old and Pop needs to let go of them already. The only songs that are fresh in the Top 10 of Pop right now are Sure Thing and Boy’s a Liar.
