brianc33710 Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 It's amazing, and almost unprecedented, for a song at Country radio to fall as slowly as Body Like A Back Road. Yes, it "only" got 3 weeks (still tied as the most since Die A Happy Man), as opposed to 6 by Die A Happy Man, 5 for Need You Now, and 4 for Play It Again and Stay (FGL). However, on BB, Hunt has fallen 1-2-3-3-3-3-4. This exceptionally uncharacteristic slow descent at Country has allowed Hunt to increase in overall audience with Mainstream stations. Of course, Road is the first song successfully sent over to Mainstream radio since Need You Now, but even it had a version with a tuned out slide guitar some stations preferred over the original. Rhett failed because Nelly made his own version of Man. I wish Hunt could've had a 6 week #1 run like Man, or even 5 like NYN, as its sales, streaming, and audience feedback definitely made the case for doing so. Carrie Underwood's Before He Cheats went straight to Mainstream radio, fiddles, steel guitars, and all. However, her later attempts to send songs over as they were only got her to around 20 at HAC -- even Blown Away, which had no Country instrumentation, but still stalled around 30.
brianc33710 Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Does anyone think Hunt has any chance at Rhythmic affiliates? I have a feeling the answer is no, given the fact not even Cruise remix w/ Nelly hit the Rhythmic Top 50 four years ago. The format's exclusion made no sense either.

How many rhythmic staples are crossing over into country? Not sure why one format should be open to other songs when others aren't.

FanOfPop Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 So, "I'm The One" has probably peaked on radio at this point.

I'm pretty certain I remember Cruise going top 50 on rhythmic. It didn't stay long and only peaked in the 40's. If I can be bothered I'll go through the archives on Kworb, but it was very late in its (2nd) chart run iirc. Some of Sam Hunt's other songs are better suited for rhythmic than Body Like A Back Road. But even with his other songs I think they would have to be #1 hits to cross over to rhythmic. They should do a remix of it with a dancehall beat and a couple of rap verses.

The fact that you need just 59m AI to go top 20 on overall radio

Not sure why one format should be open to other songs when others aren't. Well, Alternative and Rhythmic very rarely cross paths. However, that didn't prevent Royals from smashing at Rhythmic (#2) and Urban (#3 weekly). So such crossovers aren't unprecedented.

Émotif Fool Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 I'm The One gave me payola/bieber hype train from the start so i'm glad it's peaking. Reminds me of Cold Water somewhat in it's chart run as well.
