Albums List (11-20)

(Each album featured on this list will include two of my favourites)

20. Number 1 Angel - Charli XCX

220px-Charli_XCX_-_Number_1_Angel.png

(Lipgloss is so catchy, despite the explicit lyrics, I had it on repeat when released, and 3AM deserves way more love, Charli won me over with these. The rest of it, unfortunately, is mostly disposable, which is why it landed so low on this list.)

Recommend: 3AM (Pull Up) feat. MØ  //  Lipgloss feat. Cupcakke

19. 9 - Cashmere Cat

12e6dd453874b72aa0850f6d60a5891d.1000x1000x1.jpg

(An album featuring Ariana, Camila, Kehlani & Jhene is definitely one I will give a listen, and with Cashmere's previous hits with Ari I was actually quite excited for this release! For his first release, garnering such big names and actually delivering a solid body of work impressed me, and Quit is among my favourite tracks of the year. He made some questionable choices (i.e. Love Incredible's outro..), but ultimately it's a nice debut.)

Recommend: Quit feat. Ariana Grande  //  Night Night feat. Kehlani

18. All Your Fault Pt.1 - Bebe Rexha

220px-Bebe_Rexha_-_All_Your_Fault_Pt_I.png

Recommend: Gateway Drug  //  I Got You

17. Glory Days: The Platinum Edition - Little Mix

2da2651d5670b8996ddcadd5bd237d42.1000x1000x1.jpg

(With just 4 additional tracks, this placed quite low, and would've been considerably higher had I made a 2016 list where the original would qualify. Nevertheless, these 4 tracks are superb as the girls simply added 4 additional catchy pop songs that fit perfectly in line with the original tracks. Their vocals in tracks like If I Get My Way and emotion in Dear Lover are perfect additions to an already successful 2016 album. I'd just like them to follow Demi Lovato's suit and opt for a more mature sound for their next.)

Recommend: If I Get My Way  //  Reggaetón Lento (Remix)

16. Beautiful Trauma - Pink

268x0w.jpg

Recommend: What About Us  //  Beautiful Trauma

15. Melodrama - Lorde

135e9ae4d19e7816e0ffdd9a95922a0c.1000x1000x1.jpg

(Album of the year is quite a reach, although I did enjoy this, quite a bit of it in my opinion sounds as filler. Comparing this to her debut, her debut still reigns supreme, and that's not quite what you should expect from an artist you expect to evolve every release, especially after having taken such a long break. Lyrically, the album is fantastic, and quite frankly I dare say her lyrics are better than Taylor's release, Lorde's surpassed Tay in this department. However, the album felt like a bore by the time it ended on first listen, and I felt no need to play it back too many times afterwards, which for me personally, is a prime determinant of a good record.)

Recommend: Writer in the Dark  //  Liability

14. Heartbreak on a Full Moon - Chris Brown

944da505e514fa9848562b08d01d5d2f.1000x1000x1.jpg

(Okay, alot of you will see this and turn away, I get it, he has a bad rep, but despite that he still has an ear for good RnB music as well as the voice to sing them. Persona aside, playing the 45-length release is a bit much to consume in one sitting, but I gave it a shot anyway as a lover of RnB :flower: and having removed the disposable ones, the album has quite a few gems, and i'm brave enough to put it above Lorde due to me simply liking a greater percentage of the full body of work. I'm not sure if i'll still be listening to it a year later, but for now it's earned a position here.)

Recommend: Tempo  //  Hope You Do

13. Nervous System - Julia Michaels

268x0w.jpg

(After hearing Issues, I immediately felt the need to look up this girl's discography.. unfortunately, she didn't have very much to her name with her own vocals; I love hearing of writers that broke out into mainstream (a la SZA) and was very excited for her album, and after grammy rumours began to swirl upon the success of Issues, I was pleasantly surprised by her release. Pink is very clever, and Make it Up To You is catchy without being overly repetitive. Her lyricism is catered for chart hits clearly, but the ones she's chosen as her own are great picks and I look forward to a full album soon!

Recommend: Pink  //  Issues

12. Trip - Jhene Aiko

Trip_by_Jhen%C3%A9_Aiko_cover.jpg

(I've said this before and I will say it again, WHYYYYYYY would you release an album with commentary on 70% of the songs. It may add to the story you want to tell but decreased the replay-ability so much. (There's literally one song where she's screaming at the top of her lungs because she's apparently experiencing a bad trip, and it goes on for far too long, to the point where I skip the song completely now). Kehlani at least combated this by releasing a commentary-less version with her own album, which is much preferred, but this annoys me so much and the album would have soared to my top 5 otherwise! After waiting so long for a new Jhene release, i'm really disappointed by the avenue she took here. That aside, the album is beautifully sung and the story it tells (with the accompanying video) is cute and creative.) *Lowkey pissed Maniac didn't make this album, as it's one of my fave songs of 2016 :fan:*

Recommend: Ascension  //  While We're Young  //  Only Lovers Left Alive (OLLA)

11. reputation - Taylor Swift

268x0w.jpg

(Taylor.... this is such a step beneath 1989. Hearing "look what you made me do" 15 times in a row or any of the other cringey lyrics plastered all over this release is such a disappointment from the great pop album 1989 was overall. I would have thought that after the dramatic year she had and the long period between albums that this release would be bigger and better, nevertheless the songs that I do like on here are the ones where she seems unapologetic and admits she's not the sweetheart she might have started out as. Songs like I Did Somethiing Bad, This is why we can't have nice things and Getaway Car are among the highlights as it's a borderline rebel side of taylor, different to the squeaky clean image she's tried to pass off in the past. So why such a high placing? Because when she does use her brilliant lyricism it shines brighter than the lows of the album; i.e. Getaway Car, which made my songs list, is in my opinion the best on the album, as is Dancing With Our Hands Tied and So It Goes.)

Recommend: Getaway Car  //  Dancing with Our Hands Tied

Albums List (1-10)

(Each album featured on this list will include two/three of my favourites)

10. The Thrill of It All - Sam Smith

6f15505d8b36fafa3549ced734b2697a.1000x1000x1.jpg

Recommend: Baby, You Make Me Crazy  //  No Peace feat. Yebba

(Following the massive success of his previous effort, I was more than excited for a follow up, and it finally came this year. The Thrill of it All shines a light on Sam's beautiful vocals with masterful lyrics on love and heartbreak. I do wish that, like his previous release, there were a few more uptempo tracks to balance out the number of ballads this album features, but I suppose that is what he feels most comfortable with and he does it brilliantly. Songs like 'HIM' and 'Praying' take a surprising turn as they slightly touch on religion and his feelings toward them in relation to his personal life and experiences, while 'Say It First' & 'No Peace' are fantastic tracks lyrically, the latter of which is greatly aided by the feature that adds so much more to the song than what I could imagine it sounding like solo.)

9. Meaning of Life - Kelly Clarkson

b0908b5e6d42d75b9e2d5bc910f599eb.1000x1000x1.jpg

Recommend: Cruel  //  Didn't I

8. Fifth Harmony - Fifth Harmony

ba8da0e88e4b8e1a572e7b1bb140cb9a.1000x1000x1.jpg

Recommend: Lonely Night  //  Angel

(All eyes were on 5H following Camila's departure and musically I think they more than delivered! This album is the best they've released period, and I would question the taste of anyone who disagrees. The RnB influences they threw on every track of this album, that they somehow managed to effortlessly pull off is fantastic, and a major step above the lesser, previous efforts. I'm not sure if this was due to more creative control on their part, but this is definitely the sound I want to hear from them going forward. Unfortunately, I still question whether they can actually pull this off live, as more often than not their live vocals are not up to par, which calls into question whether this is mostly the studio mechanics and not their actual vocals. Their often lazy performances that are never in sync, and failure to harmonise most of the time is proof that what we hear on this album is not a true reflection of what they're capable of, and that is very disappointing.)

7. Future Friends - Superfruit

6f047701a0ff59cb46224574835e0aaa.1000x1000x1.jpg

Recommend: Worth It (Perfect)  //  Bad 4 Us

6. After Laughter - Paramore

After_Laughter_Paramore_album_cover.png

Recommend: Fake Happy  //  Rose Coloured Boy  //  Told You So

5. Tell M You Love Me - Demi Lovato

f806faaa5e42a754b1ef17248631e5a5.1000x1000x1.jpg

Recommend: Tell Me You Love Me  //  Ruin the Friendship  //  Games

(FINALLY, a decent album from Demi since Unbroken! I'll be the first to say I mostly hated Confident, it was the same safe-pop that she's been singing about for far too long, and it turned me from a stan to a casual listener. However, the matured evolution seen here is exactly what I want to hear from her, where she fully uses her powerful vocal ability to deliver honest, powerful tracks, ballads and bops alike. It's almost like Demi listened to Dangerous Woman and sculpted her lead single from Ariana's lead, where the toned down verses lead into a powerful chorus and a final chorus where she just goes off vocally with no restraint. The success she's seen this era is a blessing and I hope it encourages her to continue with this sound (or return to pop-rock..)

4. SweetSexySavage - Kehlani

Sweetsexysavage.jpg

Recommend: Undercover  //  Get Like  //  Advice

(I couldn't wait for a full album after being obsessed with her mixtape, and this girl more than delivered, as it is full of extremely catchy rnb tracks with amazing beats and breezy vocals and runs that Kehlani does so well. I appreciate the release of a commentary-less version of the album as well, this is the perfect, chill-out-on-a-sunday-with-nothing-to-do-but-listen-to-music-all-day type of album that I love.)

3. CTRL - SZA

:3rdplace:

1200x630bb.jpg

Recommend: Prom  //  Go Gina  //  Supermodel

(I love hearing of writers finding success by releasing their own material themselves instead of giving them to others, and SZA is a prime example. I'll admit it took me some time to get into this one, and on first listen I didn't care to pay any more attention, that is, until I saw her do an interview where she began to explain the meaning behind the lyrics, why she wrote certain things, how the experiences she sung about are infact 100% true. I was completely shocked considering some of the tongue-in-cheek lyrics this album features, and with ever new listen I loved it more, to the point where by year-end it became one of my favourite releases this year easily. I'm so glad my wish for her to be grammy nominated as a new artist came true because she more than deserves it, this type of brutally honest lyricism is very rare and much appreciated.)

2. Dua Lipa - Dua Lipa

:2ndplace:

Dua_Lipa_(album).png

Recommend: New Rules  //  Beggin'  //  Thinking Bout You

(Can't quite remember how I discovered this girl, I just remember downloading her album and being stunned at how the more I listened, I couldn't find one song I disliked.. even a little. Her voice was refreshing and her lyrics not repetitive, cringey or try-hard. I looked her up everywhere to see why I hadn't heard of her before, and after giving this album a few more listens became a full fledged fan. This is one of the best debut album I have ever heard, rivalling some of my most favourite artists' debuts. To this day there is not one song I dislike and I can easily listen from start to finish and still crave more. I wish her nothing but success, if for no other reason than to hear more material from her in the future. Looks like the UK has a new pop princess?)

1. Bluebird of Happiness - Tamar Braxton

:1stplace:

Tamar_Braxton_Bluebird_of_Happiness.jpg

Recommend: Empty Boxes  //  My Forever  //  How I Feel

(The wait since her previous effort 'Calling All Lovers' has been excruciating, I adore this woman's voice and this release 2 years later is worth it. I am in love with every track, and it is among my most played of the entire year despite only being released in September. Her effortless runs, ad libs and high notes in a myriad of tracks detailing love, heartbreak and sex are all so beautifully arranged that you can't help but fall in love on first listen. Lyrically the album is superb as well; Empty Boxes tells a story of a woman always expecting gifts from well designed, "pretty to the eye", boxes only to be left with nothing inside time after time, as a juxtaposition to finally calling it quits with a man who she expects more from but gets nothing but being cheated on and abused; while Heart in My Hands is a power ballad of a lover she discovers is cheating on her at 3am through texts, and her reaction and heartbreak over the realisation. It tells a powerful story, with so much emotion that I begin to wonder if it has a touch of reality of her own life and failing marriage. What a masterpiece in my opinion, easily #1. )

SONGS LIST (21 - 50)

Here we go!

50. Dusk Till Dawn - Zayn feat. Sia

Dusk_Till_Dawn_Zayn_Malik.jpg

(I'm disappointed this song didn't smash like Pillowtalk did, it certainly, in my opinion, is just as exquisite. Zayn shines here, and leaving Sia's vocals on the track was an interesting choice that I approve of in the end.)

49. Only Forever - Demi Lovato

48. Love Again - Haben (EriAm)

artworks-000230894092-wnk12w-t500x500.jpg

(An artist none of you will know of, but my goodnes her voice is incredible, and she churned out quite a few original tracks this year, love again is beautifully song and couldv'e been a local hit if sung by a more popularly know artist.)

47. Cruel - Kelly Clarkson

46. Didn't I - Kelly Clarkson

Kelly_Clarkson_-_Meaning_of_Life_(Official_Album_Cover).png

(Kellly snapped on this one, it's a fun pop song that I can't help but sing/hum along to when it come on, this and Cruel are definitly in my top 5 of the album.)

45. Blind - Tamar Braxton

32c6467efe77caf56793a249d8df8b39.1000x1000x1.jpg

(I LOVE this woman's voice and she finally released another album this year. As an RnB lover, this album was spectacular, and this single in particular, was brilliantly sung. Her live performance of this as well took my breath away. Definitely deserves far more acclaim and a better position on the charts in my opinion.)

44. Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Ariana Grande (COVER)

ariana-grande-performs-one-love-manchester-2017-a-billboard-1548.jpg

(For those of us who watched this live, the emotion Ariana carried, the tears she fought back and the way she still managed to hit all of the right notes in this song makes this easily one of my favourite covers of the year. It's difficult to playback as it reminds me of that day, but her performance deserves a placing on this list!)

43. Broken Clocks - SZA

42. That's What I Like - Bruno Mars

41. What Lovers Do - Maroon 5 feat. SZA

40. You Don't Do It For Me Anymore - Demi Lovato

39. Fading Away - EriAm

38. The Weekend - SZA

37.  Ascension - Jhene Aiko feat. Brandy

jhene-aiko.jpg

(Jhene's released a new album?? BRANDY'S INVOLVED??? I skipped straight to this song the second it was released, they blend so well together, neither attempts to outsing the other and their harmonies are mesmerising, the lyrics beautifully written. Top 5 of the album in my opinion.)

36. Getaway Car - Taylor Swift

5c8131af7d5d20f3c8f296538af74308.1000x1000x1.jpg

(The main issue I have with reputation is its lacklustre lyrics, however, Getaway Car is the rare exception. A story is told here, and it immediately stood out against the other tracks on the album. Furthermore, it's not overly repetitive like the album's lead and Teylor doesn't try to extend past her limited vocal range. This is the material I enjoy from her.)

35. Man - Star Cast

34. Can You See - Fifth Harmony

c41def3e5c15591d7d4ce334923d7448.1000x1000x1.jpg

(This came out of left field in my opinion, I did not expect Fifth Harmony to serve their best song (debatable) from a random movie soundtrack that no one will remember in a month's time, and after listening I was inclined to hear the full album.. suffice it to say this is the best on it, with perhaps the exception of Yolanda's effort. Can You See is amazingly sung, and surprisingly they can pull it off live (if it wasn't lipsync'd). Great gospel-esque track!)

33. Garden (Say It Like Dat) - SZA

32. Still Got Time - Zayn

e9e0232e4d50f426d0909f11e6dabd4c.1000x1000x1.jpg

(I hate how catchy this song is, I hate how much i've come to love it, I hate how much I don't even mind the rent-a-rapper feature. Very interested in hearing Zayn's impending album..)

31. Don't Mind - Haben (EriAm)

30. Shape of You - Ed Sheeran

Shape_Of_You_(Official_Single_Cover)_by_Ed_Sheeran.png

(DON'T YOU DARE JUDGE ME! I will never understand why Atrl hates this song so much? It's an extremely catchy, light-hearted pop song that came at the right time and did extremely well on the charts. Shoutout to @Daddy as this is his favourite song of all time.)

29. Quit - Cashmere Cat feat. Ariana Grande

28. Ask More - Haben (EriAm)

27. Baby, You Make Me Crazy - Sam Smith

Sam_Smith_Pray.jpg

(On an album full of ballads (which he does best, don't get me wrong), it's always a breath of fresh air to hear a slightly uptempo track from Sam, and this one is brilliant. I do hope this becomes a single because it quickly became one of my favourites from the album, and his runs on the final chorus are pleasant to hear, i'd love to hear it live!)

26. Angel - Fifth Harmony

25. Imaginary Parties - Superfruit

6f047701a0ff59cb46224574835e0aaa.1000x1000x1.jpg

("Let's get fresh, it's like we just met!", something about the way this lyric is sung, hell about the way the whole song is sung, makes it so fun to listen too, this and the other song from Superfruit that made my top 50 are my favourites from the pair in their release this year. I love hearing them sing together, their friendship shined through on the entire EP)

24. Issues  - Julia Michaels

23. Sorry Not Sorry - Demi Lovato

22. New Rules - Dua Lipa

21. Piece of Mind - Kehlani

NSK6oBz.png

SONGS LIST (1 - 20)

20. Say The Word - Haben (EriAm)

19. Burden Down - Jennifer Hudson

18. Uh Huh - Julia Michaels

220px-Uh_Huh_(Official_Single_Cover)_by_Julia_Michaels.png

(This is such a fun, lighthearted song and Julia's unique voice sings it so well, this was on repeat for so long when I discovered it! It's one of my favourites from the release and I wish it saw more success!)

17. Don't Say You Love Me - Fifth Harmony

ba8da0e88e4b8e1a572e7b1bb140cb9a.1000x1000x1.jpg

(This is one of the best on the album, I love the lyrics they sing and consider it top 5 of the album. Had they had the budget I would've loved to see this as a single with an accompanying music video.. It's a catchy pop song that's lighthearted yet borderline sassy at the same time and girls sung it very well.)

16. Sexy Dirty Love - Demi Lovato

f806faaa5e42a754b1ef17248631e5a5.1000x1000x1.jpg

(I don't think this track gets enough love, it's a powerful bop that only few can pull off vocally and Demi does it effortlessly, her runs in such a high tone and the raunchy lyrics is the sexy mature sound I like hearing from her.)

15. How I Feel - Tamar Braxton

14. Love So Soft - Kelly Clarkson

13. Havana - Camila Cabello

Havana_(featuring_Young_Thug)_(Official_Single_Cover)_by_Camila_Cabello.png

(Disclaimed: The ONLY reason this song is so high is strictly because of the solo version. If there is one thing I hate in music it's a sing who chooses to rely on a rent-a-rapper for a hit song, especially if the rap is horrible and they release it anyway. Thug adds absolutely nothing to the track in any way, and as a result, the solo version is superior and the only version I now listen to. I knew from first listen that this was the one to push as a single, and I was more than right given it's current #2 placing on the H100. This one is extremely catchy and i'm surprised I like so many of her tracks since her departure from 5H.)

12. Beggin' - Dua Lipa

Dua_Lipa_(album).png

(This is probably my fave from Dua, It's an amazing, fun song that I love playing on high volume, she sounds so carefree on this track and it has an amazing replay value!)

11. Worth It (Perfect) - Superfruit

6f047701a0ff59cb46224574835e0aaa.1000x1000x1.jpg

(The whole album is amazing, but this one in particular struck a chord and holds a surprising number of plays in my library! Mitch sounds so beautiful singing this, their harmonies together are superb; this one is definitely a highlight of the album.)

10. I Have Questions - Camila Cabello

1dfab5c8d53d3385896313a02ebd01e2.1000x1000x1.jpg

(HOW did this girl randomly release on my favourite songs of the year so quickly, WHY is it not going to be on her album releasing in a few days; i'm still so obsessed with the lyrics and the way she sings this song, it's fantastic and hard to believe it's coming from a writer beginner.)

9. While We're Young - Jhene Aiko

Trip_by_Jhené_Aiko_cover.jpg

(This & Maniac were my faves from Jhene prior to the album release, and remain my faves afterward, honestly this is a song I imagine singing to my partner in bed, it's so lyrically beautiful and Jhene's usual chill vocals carries it so well! It's perhaps one of my favourite songs by her ever!)

8. Heart In My Hands - Tamar Braxton

Tamar_Braxton_Bluebird_of_Happiness.jpg

(This song is so ridiculously heartbreaking, as it tells the story of a woman who realises she's been cheated on by the love of her life, through an incoming text by his side chick at 3am. Tamar goes off vocally on this song, pouring out pure emotion so strong one may almost think it's being sung from real experience. I'd recommend this and Empty Boxes (both ballads) to anyone trying to get into her music!)

7. Find You - Haben (EriAm)

artworks-000217416023-fu65fg-t500x500.jpg

(Haben has an incredible, incredible voice, and this bop she's done is so well done and showcases that great voice really well. It's a shame she's only limited to soundcloud and youtube at the moment, but I wish her much success in 2018 as she more than deserves it. I love seeing talented singers on top.. over certain whisper singers.. and she definitely deserves the success and recognition.)

6. Prom - SZA

5. I Am Changing - Amber Riley (Dreamgirls Soundtrack)

iac3ucowrhnqie5anslj.jpg

(No surprise that Amber Riley can take a song and turn it upside down and sing it like no other, the buildup from the slow start to massive vocal end is brilliant and took my breath away at first listen. It's a shame I never got to see her live like @Lukey, I'm completely in love with her voice and hope to hear original content from her in 2018)

4. Fake Happy - Paramore

After_Laughter_Paramore_album_cover.png

(Best song on After Laughter in my opinion, it's so honest, which I love, and Paramore carries it so well, maybe I like it so much because I relate to it slightly? It's how I feel many times in social settings, with lyrics such as "And if I go out tonight, dress up my fears, You think I look alright with these mascara tears?, See, I'm gonna draw up my lipstick wider than my mouth, And if the lights are low they'll never see me frown")

3. Ridiculous - Ariana Grande

:3rdplace:

(A random unreleased track from Ms. Grande gallops to my top 3 favourite songs of 2017? is anyone surprised? Why the hell wasn't this released? If it is an unreleased track from My Everything as is rumoured, it still sounds great present day, and she sings it beautifully as she does best.)

2. Empty Boxes - Tamar Braxton

:2ndplace:

Tamar_Braxton_Bluebird_of_Happiness.jpg

(Favourite on the album? Maybe, it changes so often with me since I love the entire album so much, this one tells another brilliant story of someone always expecting some gift from a pretty-to-the-eye box only to be let done time after time when she opens them to find nothing inside. A lie, a false hope, leading to nothing but disappointment, compared to this person's relationship; where the man is the box that she expects so much from.. my god the first time I heard this song and connected the dots I thought it was so brilliantly written. I fell in love with it instantly and have loved it ever since. Tamar sang this beautifully, brought just the write touch of emotion into the song to make it believable, and made it my 2nd favourite song of the entire year.)

1. Tell Me You Love Me - Demi Lovato

:1stplace:

f806faaa5e42a754b1ef17248631e5a5.1000x1000x1.jpg

(FINALLY Demi! A song (that for some reason I keep comparing to Ariana's lead 'Dangerous Woman') that I absolutely love from start to finish, a song that completely showcases your impressive vocal ability without over doing it, a song with beautiful, deep meaning lyrics and a fantastic music video too? She gave me everything I needed this era and that's why this is my most played song of the year at the moment. She sounds so unapologetic on this track as she almost demands that someone tell her what she wants to hear, as she so badly needs it. I struggle to decide whether this is directed at a lover, family member, friend or to herself, which I think makes the song even more spectacular as it really can apply to any setting in that regard. it's the best song on the album in my opinion, an excellent single choice and decision to the name the album after it, and I hope she continues to sing songs like this one throughout her future in music.)

Lmk if you like it! I was obsessed when it was released

Paramore definitely deserved some grammy recognition this year, a shame they were snubbed.

Oh my god how did they not add this to My Everything :rip:

It wouldn't quite fit in but ME is already a haphazard mix of random pop songs anyway so they should've added Ridiculous :jonny:
