lover came out the weekend i was moving into the dorms for my second year of college. my mom and i were staying at an airbnb, and that's where i listened to lover for the first time. i will never forget the feeling of dancing like a maniac in the kitchen with no lights on as i heard cruel summer for the first time. legitimately one of the most exhilarating moments of my life. i thought it would for sure be the next single and was so baffled why the man was chosen instead. i had accepted cruel summer as the smash that had gotten away, and as a lover warrior, i had accepted that no one would really get the album because of ME!th. it is so thrilling to see lover smashing and resonating so much with the GP, and of course it is so incredible to see cruel summer snatch that #1. honestly, this might be more satisfying than all too well going number because of the insane journey this song has taken to reach its peak. lover forever, cruel summer forever
