I'm a Janet stan and I love when people give her her flowers but it shouldn't be at the cost of trying to discredit other artists like Madonna

Actually Madonna was 16 when Janet started acting and had her first TV gig. And do 19 year olds not watch TV or something? 

 

While saying that Madonna grew up watching Janet on TV might be a stretch, Lizzo's point was that Janet started the very influential template of child actor going popstar (that would be followed by Britney, Christina, Ariana, Selena and many others as we all know) almost a decade before anyone knew who Madonna was.

 

Poor choice of words from miss Lizzo, especially with the impersonator thing and saying that there were no pop divas before Janet which is just DUMB but y'all doing a bit too much about the Janet QoP bit. She didn't diss Madonna or anything. In fact she proceeded to praise her to high heaven right after the excerpt in the OP.

I don't like the thing Lizzo said about Britney "doing a Janet impression," cause no, she's doing her own thing, though one can say that she was clearly inspired by Janet. also she's incorrect and there WERE pop divas before both Madonna and Janet. there was Cher, there was Diana Ross, there was Donna Summer, there was Debbie Harry, there was Tina Turner... hell, even Pat Benatar was smashing before Madonna debuted. so I don't like some of the things Lizzo said but I won't deny that Janet could 100% be the queen of pop. she's definitely one of them, at the least 

I prefer Ray of Light because it's not as dark, I have to be in a special mode to listen to both but I find myself listening to Ray of Light more especially since it's not as long which I think wears some of Janet albums down. She could've a made at least another album out of some of the songs that she had put on her albums, I can't listen to her albums in full because of this.
