Wasn't it literally confirmed since she came on the scene that she was molded after Robyn Britney created her own singing style thanks to the influence of Soft Cell and created the concept of the video herself. The song was a TLC-inspired jam. Love Ms. Robyn, but you'd have to be a delusional hater (which you are) to think she is the reason Britney got a deal. They don't operate in the same wheelhouse at all. 30 minutes ago, Sugden said: you mean without black artists, just like britney wouldnt exist either. Girl, Britney literally created the machine for K-pop so you can miss us with the disrespect. Boa Kwon was the "Korean Britney" and SM used Britney Spears to launch DBSK and kickstart Hallyu. But also I don't get how so many people here need to be fat phobic to have a point or be against what she's saying. The world is violent enough, do better. ToMmY Posted yesterday at 01:58 AM Posted yesterday at 01:58 AM (edited) Also don't waste your energy giving her free engagement on Twitter (she's even flopping at that). Send that clip to Azealia Banks instead. She's gonna put her in her place. Edited yesterday at 01:59 AM by ToMmY 5

Edonis Posted yesterday at 02:27 AM Posted yesterday at 02:27 AM impersonation is a word with a very particular meaning, so even if she meant it endearingly, the term can still be insulting to artists regardless of their craft (production, singing, dancing, film, painting, sculpting, WHATEVER). it's not a kind word to use when talking about peers or industry people. 5
Popboi. Posted yesterday at 02:44 AM Posted yesterday at 02:44 AM (edited) Britney only really "impersonated" Janet with her Britney era dance breaks She reheats Prince's nachos or whatever, more so than Britney did for Miss Jackson. Edited yesterday at 02:45 AM by Popboi. 5

OT: Impersonation isn't the right word because they're completely different artists but Janet's influence and impact on Britney is undeniable. I doubt she meant it as an insult but it's kinda belittling

Breathe On Moi Posted yesterday at 03:17 AM Posted yesterday at 03:17 AM mind you, Britney told Janet to her face that she inspired her: just one of the many times. Idk why I'm still entertaining this tbh. 4

Trash Posted yesterday at 04:07 AM Posted yesterday at 04:07 AM The way this woman can always talk herself into an angry horde and then cry online that she doesn't come out unscathed. Just keep your mouth closed This comment shouldn't even feel shady, yet, she is either stupid enough not to make a proper compliment/comparison or just loves riling people up.
Onyxmage Posted yesterday at 04:15 AM Posted yesterday at 04:15 AM This feels taken out of context. Of course people here would use it to "drag" someone that they dont like. 3
Into The Void Posted yesterday at 04:31 AM Posted yesterday at 04:31 AM This is a 6 second clip I want the full thing to get the whole idea
Jay07 Posted yesterday at 05:08 AM Posted yesterday at 05:08 AM Appreciate the effort to educate people on Janet's influence but this wasn't the way to go about it. 1
Genie in a Bottle Posted yesterday at 05:16 AM Posted yesterday at 05:16 AM I'm not sure what the context of Lizzo's comment is because the clip is only 6 seconds and people are quick to hate on her, but Britney Spears is an enigma and an individual artist in her own right. I'd argue she's probably one of the most influential musicians and performers in the history of modern pop music. With that being said, Britney has ALWAYS given Janet her flowers and has emphatically referred to her as an inspiration several times throughout the early years of her career. The JJ influence is heavy when it comes to how Britney danced, moved, and performed in her prime. But let's be frank here, Britney's discography and her overall musical sound is WAY more notable and recognizable than Janet's because she was the OG Max Martin girl. In that aspect, she's more like Michael than Janet. Britney and Janet don't sound similar to me at all vocally or musically, except for I'm a Slave 4 U (which was originally made for Janet but she declined for what is probably obvious reasons). On another note, wtf ever happened with that court case against Lizzo from her backup dancers… did we all just forget about that? Lol 4
