Miley Cyrus - "End of the World"

the amount of drama queens in here is making me ijbol :rip: cause like- i guess some of you weren't there when she released Younger Now (the song). it came right after Malibu which hit top 10 in the states but YN was DEAD on arrival globally and even though her efforts were there, the song didn't click with the geepee at all. miss Milene have BEEN there before. flopping after getting a hit IS possible no matter what.

i mean yes. Miley being active on social media herself (instead of posting like a robot) could actually change the era's trajectory easily. everyone knows ppl love seeing her showing authenticity & her character on display. but since she's still pushing that "i don't look for numbers!! numbers don't define me!! social media doesn't exist to me!!" narrative, she's missing out on keeping her dedicated fanbase alive so yeah :cries: also EOTW's video being too simple avoids the vid having an actual replay value. these missteps may leave some of you hopeless for the 'success' aspect of the era, understandably. but personally, as long as the album is truly GOOD, i'm more than fine with her flopping commercially. all of her songs so far have gotten such positive reviews. and imo they are 3 of her all-time best. if she serves a quality record, she should be fine me thinks :flower3:

Well deserved. She is so hit and miss it's unbelievable. If Flowers was a 10 this is an album track, a bonus really

Flowers ain't a 10 :rip: it's one of her worst songs, such an annoying piece of garbage

Angels Like You, sweetie, you deserved her success!

This is actually her second lead single, after Midnight Sky. SHE HAS DONE IT AGAIN :WAP:

Lovely song. It kinda drags out a little bit at the end... I think it could've been more effective if it were a bit shorter.

:deadbanana4: is it comparable to selena's single at least

Call Me When You Break Up debuted with 3,5M unfiltered

That was from partial day tracking lol. Flowers had a radio deal so it did significantly better than EOTW on their respective first full days (both released Thursday night)

Also for further comparison, UTBY also had a radio deal. Columbia was clearly hesitant this time for some reason. Even River had a deal and debuted with 3.48 M audience. This is actually her lowest debut on pop radio for a single in a while

Let's see it positively, if this really ends up BOMBING we can just enjoy the rest of the album rollout without having to be concerned about commercial performance.... WAIT BOMBley, your mind!

End of the Success oh how we love you. Destiny Bomb Cyst the icon you are :jonny:

One the bright side she seems to be about neck and neck with Ed's single at least on Apple Music US despite him having gone around the world these past few months to promote his music and having significantly greater radio investment 😆

Whatever the numbers are, idk why everyone is acting surprised when there were too many signs :coffee2:

I don't wanna sound shady again, but this isn't her first release after Flowers… it's like the 6th or 7th.

Her latest album goes from a song with >2.5B to the second most streamed one that doesn't even reach 250M.

Even the reception of Doctor should've been a sign.

The meltdowns :rip: no offense but anyone who paid attention to how ESV performed could see she wasn't going to come right out of the gate with a smash; Flowers was a little bit of an anomaly where it just ticked all of the right boxes to become as big as it became. She didn't really capitalize on that and so the success has stayed limited to just that song. Miley has never been as consistent as Ariana, or even Selena Gomez; she also doesn't really seem to be craving commercial success anymore and (to me anyway) seems to really be enjoying the lanes she's been occupying in the last few years. Not everything has worked for me personally but she deserves credit for changing things up.

The Spotify numbers still aren't out yet, but this is definitely the type of song that could grow over time; especially with the album release. As much as I like it, it does feel a bit underwritten so it's missing that punch that made Flowers so undeniable, but maybe there's a better single choice hiding on the album.

anyway, I doubt Columbia will let this die.  :coffee2:

At any moment, they could start with the autoplay + their radio payola.

And it's not a bad thing, it's something any label would do with a name like hers and  the song is good (Just a little bit long) :bird:

Again though she's never done THIS bad with this level of promotion like even Midnight Sky had more people tuning in. If anything she's always been good at debuts not longevity (as seen with Used to Be Young, Malibu, Midnight Sky, etc.) but this time it's looking like she'll have neither. Atp it's safe to say anything with an "end" in the name associated with Miley is cursed💀

The dichotomy of stanning both Taylor one of the biggest artists of our time with an incredible fan relationship, incredible tours who is almost always immune to flopping and on the other hand Miley one of the smallest big artists with terrible fan relationship and the absolute refusal of even performing just every once in a while who is almost immune of having a hit unless it's a year ending with the digit 3, ohhhhhh truly the best of both worlds.m4a

It's mostly light hearted fun I'd say, we're used to her bombing, not to this degree, but still! A return to form for her! :sistrens:

On a more serious note, any commercial performance is solely to blame on her, I really don't wanna hear no one claim columbia is sabotaging her, when this is all on her refusal to tour, to build her fanbase or at least stop refusing to engage with the last 25 remaining fans of hers and show another side of her public persona than the unrelatable, high fashion obsessed diva shtick she's been trying to (poorly) pull off these past couple of years :sistrens:

Still, love her, just sucks that parasocial relationship building has become so important in the music industry over the past years (and ironically her suckin at it when she even used to have quite the decent fan relationship even during super left field times like Dead Petz :rip:)

Thinking back to MS release, it had been awhile since Miley had a proper album release/I think the shift in sound was a bit more pronounced than Flowers v EOTW; MS is also more of an ear worm imo, this definitely meanders a bit in a way songs used to do but don't do as much anymore, at least those that are picked as singles.

Okay song, promising beginning but doesn't really go anywhere....
