Honeys if you're gay, burn it up, like a gay parade

Intoxicated, emancipated, unapologetic

Not you saying this when namie discography is terrible with a lot of fillers

Ultra Blue is better than her entire discography lol

These Namie girls always causing trouble. Why can't y'all chill out and go listen to all of her good music? I mean, sure you have to resort to piracy to hear it these days, but...

What a day
Young boy next door passed away
Ooh, it makes me wanna say
Hey, I don't wanna waste another day
Can you and I start mixing gene pools?
Eastern, western people, get naughty, multilingual

Three girls, four guys
Five ripples running up and down my spine

I was talking with a born again Christian

Rediscovering the tomb of Tutankhamun"

Everyone glazing Bad MODE, as they should ofc, but she's been making bangers since forever. Deep River, one of the greatest J-pop albums of all time, the collapse that you are... :jonny:

The lead single was called traveling, and she really took us around the world on this one. Barely 19 years old and serving such a stellar collection: hugely varied pop and the most brilliant visuals to match the music. :gaycat2:

Her mind! The only thing she can't really do is the elaborate sets on tour that Ayu does. But nobody's perfect!

not a single lie was told.

now that Namie deleted her entire music career to become a cloistered nun up in the mountains or something,

UTADA IS THE SINGLE GREATEST JAPANESE MPG right now.

the fact that all her studio albums including the greatest hits one released last year debuted at #1. all of this while serving quality and taking a f*cking 8 year hiatus :rip:

the McDonald's of J-Pop, Ayumi Hamasaki flopass could never :clap3:

Not the immediate Science Fiction slander. I thought Science Fiction was excellent - it's fine if some listeners didn't, but I certainly don't know if terrible is fair. The new mixes had depth the originals didn't, particularly Goodbye Happiness, and while I can understand not enjoying her vocals on Hikari since they're quite different and seemingly a little outside her current healthy range, the new take on the production was fascinating and she did great with the other two re-recordings. On top of that, all three new songs were excellent. Gold especially shows that she should keep working with AG Cook for a full album. Their minds together make pure magic.

I won't comment on other women in the Japanese music industry since this thread isn't really about that at its heart - they all work hard and bring people together. What I will say is that Utada's music has incredible depth that I've rarely found in any other act from anywhere around the world. She a stunning sense of melody, musicality - these things coming from how deeply involved she is in the creative process, from composition to production to lyrics to instrumentation and everything in between. She puts in the work, and for those of us who connect with it, there's really no other experience like the music she creates.

I really, really hope she has a full studio album with AG on the way this year or early next. That would be among my most anticipated albums ever made - two fascinating minds creating something unique and singular.

Namie Stan's are like rih Stan's where their anger and bitterness is a result of their fave not having released music for 30 years. :giraffe:

You pretending that Namie wasn't overshadow for Kana Nishino during ayumi flor era and utada hiatus loool

The best thing for Namie was the hiatus if not she would sell less than Sheena Ringo these days

Not too much on miss Sheena, at least she consistently gets new daughters. Namie's Ava Max aka Tomomi Itano fell off.

I've listened to First Love and Deep River and it's crazy to realize that at the age of 15, she wrote a song as good as Automatic. I love her first album so much.

been meaning to get into her! my ex boyfriend (yes, the metalhead bear one) was obsessed with her back in the day and all I really know about her is the "hunnies if you're gay burn it up like a gay parade" and other such lyrical novelties that have gone viral on twitter. which full album should I start with though?

Deep River or Bad Mode would be a good start. If the language is a barrier, then maybe Exodus, though some find it challenging. This Is The One where that line is from may be campy but it's not the best representation of her artistry.

They have several albums considered some of the best J-Pop music ever made. Not even exaggerating. They blend pop, R&B and rock perfectly in thier earlier work! Deep River is considered thier best by fans and critics. First 2 songs will literally make you a fan.

Then follow up with ultra blue that has thier biggest Smash hit Sanctuary. You most likely have heard of it if your a millennial cuz of Kindgom hearts and Anime music video from the 2000's

These are probably the most mainstream and accessible music for them. And then of course Utada's debut song and album that is actually still the biggest album of theirs, and one of the best selling in Japanese music history. Bad Mode is great if you want modern production. And I recommend it cuz it's pretty easy listening. Either way Utada is famous for producing or being heavily involved in all the songs. So they have a singer-songwriter sensibility and yet is still a Main Pop Girl. Thier English album is camp lyrically, but they still served bops. Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence is a must listen!

How so? Namie consistenly sold more than NishiNO.

Except for _tragic, which was an experimental record with no promo or pre-released singles which turned to be a dud:foxaylove2:

And where is Nishino now? No new studio album since 2017. She was already showing signs of decline even before Namie retired.
