how did beautiful liar peak at #3? what component was it lacking to push it to #1?  i've always been curious considering both bey and shakira were at their peak (at the time)

A Madonna/Britney track only reaching #35 is pretty tragic.

Charts were heavily influenced by radio airplay and sales and the song was released before the digital era started officially, so they were also relying on physical sales. That's why it was harder to get No.1s back then. In The Zone sold 600K the first week despite MATM not being a 'hit', nowadays artists collect No.1s back and forth but their albums make zero noise for the most part, and that's because of streaming and how 'easy' is to get a No.1 song in comparison to the 90s and early 00s

Christina was right about Me Against The Music lmao. Poor Britney and Jive, they spent millions for Madonna to be on the track for it to bomb.

The Britney & Madonna is so bad, no surprise it flopped that hard. My goodness what were they thinking. It has no hooks at all, probably one of Britney's worst singles ever (let alone a lead.)

This flopped so hard that I was shook, because I specifically remember I was a Navy and I listen to this for the first time and i was like "THIS IS GONNA SMASH SO HARD"

and this was release in a time where any Rihanna song have a high chance to be a hit.

Came to post this one! I mean Shakira wasn't exactly a guaranteed smash in the US but it was a comeback lead with Rih who was pretty much in her prime. To only peak at #15 was shocking

4 Mins would've been a #1 debut had they not staggered the airplay and digital rollouts :'(

The song was utter shite and deserved that position.
