ericcartman Posted January 1 Posted January 1 With Wicked becoming a bonafide smash despite being a musical, Ariana has successfully transitioned into a successful Hollywood actress, a move coveted by many before her including legends Madonna, Mariah, Bey, plus other former pop girls such as Rihanna, a Britney, Xtina. Even the biggest pop girl Taylor Swift has failed at it. What does Ari have that the others don't? More charisma? Screen presence? More talent? Just the right role at the right time?
Mr.X Posted January 1 Posted January 1 She hasn't, not yet. One hit movie does not mean she is now an established actress. She will have to prove herself outside of a fantasy musical to be considered a relevant actress. Plus, I think you are all doing too much about her appereance in the movie. She's fine in it, but she is no revelation. She sings beautifully in it and thats her best thing about her participation. Love her to bits and she is one of my favourite artists out there. But as an actress, I don't see it. 5 11 1 12
Blackout2006 Posted January 1 Posted January 1 She's always had an illustrious background in acting though. Her role in 'Victorious' is very well-known.

I went with my family for Christmas (it was my second time going), and Ariana was everyone’s favorite because they thought she was so funny. Ariana has a penchant for comedic timing and it made her a phenomenal casting choice for Glinda. It wasn’t just the singing—which was also top-notch. However, I do largely agree with the spirit of your post. One hit movie isn’t enough to say you’ve successfully transitioned into being a movie star. I think Ariana would need to commit more to this goal if she wants to pursue it. I’m not sure if she will, though, Glinda as a role is a bit uniquely sentimental for her. But, regardless, she’d need more movies and more acting versatility under her belt to be seen as a serious “actor” that’s transitioned out of music. 4 15
Dante Silva Posted January 1 Posted January 1 She had coveted the role for many years. There was a lot of thought and feeling that went in to her performance which resonated on screen.
unino Posted January 1 Posted January 1 doubt she really all about acting career that much. this's just a very special role to her so she really put everything on it. 1
Bussea Posted January 1 Posted January 1 she was an actress first on broadway. and this is a movie based on broadway show let's use our thinking caps bb 9

Oh don't get me wrong, I can understand that she did really well in it. She does have great comedic timing but she isn't a great actress in it. She did well, for sure, but her acting doesn't necessarily scream 'actress' in it, sorry... It is the perfect role for her, but I sincerily doubt she will find much success in any other role, bless her. 1 6
BornUnbroken Posted January 1 Posted January 1 It's a big budget film adaptation of arguably the most beloved Broadway musical of the 21st century. The film had everything going for it, including the fact that Ariana was a Broadway actress even before Nickelodeon.
Jay07 Posted January 1 Posted January 1 She was perfect for the role, the same way Gaga was for ASIB. As others have said, she will need to do more roles to see if she can have an actual career as an actress. 1
Loca Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Because all it takes is getting the right role, and there's not all that many to offer, especially to women. 1
ariananext Posted January 1 Posted January 1 I see people are already downplaying her or finding original ways to turn it around negatively lol just give her her flowers because she's literally impossible to drag for Wicked. I don't care that much about her proving herself as an actress because of course I'm in for her music career first and foremost. I'm excited to see where she's headed next in this industry though, I don't think that she needs to be good in every genre to have a successful acting career. I would love to see her in Hercules or in Audrey Hepburn's biopic. I've never seen all this demand for actual actors who stick to one genre and are good at it. 2 1

perfectillusion204 Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Repeating everyone in here, but she literally was an actress before a pop star 💀 is OP only 12 years old or something? Lol
dumbsparce Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Starring in ONE musical with a massive built-in audience -//- smooth transition to movies Why are you acting as if she played in sth that wasn't her bread and butter? 3
KasioKas Posted January 1 Posted January 1 (edited) The way this girl keeps getting dismissed by you haters is so funny. She did extremely well acting wise, evidenced by her multiple critics award nominations and wins, and regardless of the "built-in" audience the film had from the musical, if casuals didn't like it, they wouldn't show up in droves like they did, making it the most successful movie-musical adaptation to-date. Body Talk Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Are you insinuating that the other women listed in OP haven't found success in films? Because a few of them certainly have. 1 1
