Delirious Posted January 3 Posted January 3 (edited) Do you guys feel like recently in kpop it's either youre a really successful group or you get left behind? Also don't know why so many groups are flopping hard like IVE, itzy, gidle, stayc despite being invincible at the start Also what happened to Billie, everglow, nmixx etc. all those groups were like pretty popular and now they faded into super irrelevancy. ITZY and STAYC on the other hand .. yeah everglow is pretty much shelved, and billie and nmixx are doing their own thing, but are being overshadowded severely. the market is already very saturated, and it won't help the groups wite the big4 debuting new groups this year. 1

Yes but also kpop has definitely dipped in popularity globally, people lost interest and currently there's no big global kpop group everyone knows that is active (dunno what's happening with New Jeans) 3

In past generations there were clearly tiers of groups, but I do agree it feels like the "middle" tier has almost completely disappeared. There are very very few groups who are consistently doing just "okay" or average in sales and/or charts now. Either it's a big success or a big flop. The way the charts are constructed might not be helping either. It seems like the groups that get smashes, then get more smashes, but the groups that flop, keep flopping. This is despite Melon trying to change that with the HOT100 chart etc. It's interesting. 2

I think IVE and GIDLE experienced just what aespa did back in 2022 with Girls. I do not consider the Girls, HEYA and Klaxon eras as flops. Those were eras that didn't have as much success as their previous ones but if you look at the stats, it is still pretty good. ITZY and Stayc lost the public and fans interest with multiple weak title tracks. The other three mentioned never were pretty popular. 2

Magnetic went extremely viral on TikTok and APT went mega viral worldwide. Of course the BTS-mania kinda fizzled out which seems like Kpop is not that dominating anymore (when BTS was the #1 artist in the world), but Kpop is still popular worldwide 2

Bewitched Posted January 3 Posted January 3 As someone who's been a kpop fan since 2010 it's actually surreal to see this is finally the year the male idols my age are finally enlisting nnn
TaylenaStan Posted January 3 Posted January 3 (edited) APT just reaching #1 in Germany now.. oh the longevity of this global smasha Only the second song by a korean artist to go #1 EVER (Gangnam Style is the other one) longest running #1 song of 2024 on the Billboard Global 200 About to reach a new peak (#4) on the H100 aswell, sadly #1 is too unrealistic at this point but that would be the icing on the cake at this point its pretty much the second biggest k-song ever after Gangnam Style Edited January 3 by TaylenaStan 5

MAKSIM Posted January 3 Posted January 3 2025 is going to be TERRIBLE. Spotify doesn't even know how to handle filtering Jimin's streams, and now we're going to have 100 BTS variants for their next comeback?
