oops my internet kaka'd so here's another one:

Gwen Stefani's Harajuku girls were really cool and i still think it's an American overreaction and simplification to say that they appropriated Japanese people instead of the tiny fashion street counter culture of Harajuku in Tokyo.

Lady Gaga was the last remnant of exciting Pop culture and music we experienced. Almost everything else ******* sucked. I feel like there's some truth to Pop culture dying when Michael Jackson died.

But I also understand people have a right to treasure and be nostalgic about Pop post 2009 and I myself am a fan of some of it so I try to have a "let people enjoy things" perspective. That being said, I don't think you can make fetch happen. We don't have pop stars for the books anymore. These girlies and boys with so many streaming hits? Let's see if they'll leave a mark or not.

Midnights is not just mid, it is mediocre.  There is absolutely no way in hell it ever should've won AOTY over SOS, which is front to back an impeccable body of work.  SOS will go on to be a huge classic of the 2020s while in time, Midnights will eventually be considered one of Taylor's most boring and lower-ranked projects. It won due to her overall Eras tour hype and was not judged on its own merit. Folklore's win was deserved but Midnights was absolutely not.

Some other seemingly unpopular opinions I want to share:

  • Eternal Sunshine was the best album of 2024 and it is really unfair and weird how overlooked it has been by awards and the general mainstream. It should've been a new career peak moment for her.
  • I am a Bruno  fan, but 24K Magic winning AOTY over Kendrick's DAMN was the biggest wtf moment in Grammy history. The Grammys have gotten AOTY wrong more often than not in the last 10 years, but that one was really a doozy! Bruno would've deserved it more for one of his first 2 albums.
  • Social media gays, particularly the conventionally attractive white ones, are some of most shallow and toxic people I have ever seen online, and that narcissistic and deeply judgmental behavior has carried over into real life. They think they are the popular, pretty Regina George and didn't get the memo that you're not actually supposed to want to be like her, lol. The way they shamelessly favor people who are conventionally attractive and only hang out with people who look like them is honestly quite gross and should not be considered acceptable/normal.  We need to have more honest conversations  in general about how gay men tend to treat each other like trash and quite frankly disposable sex objects. We are NOT a unified community, and in times like now, we really should be more than ever. I think it is a much bigger problem than our community is willing to address currently within itself.
  • Rihanna was my favorite artist growing up, but I stopped caring about R9. I won't care again until she cares and I have zero indication as a long-time fan that she does anymore. Her demeanor, answers about it, and lack of anything to do with music this decade tells me everything I need to know without her saying it. She doesn't care and I don't want her to release half-assed, I'm-only-doing-this-because-you -all-keep-begging music. Her drive for music is gone, and that's okay. I accepted it and am grateful for the discography she gave me as a fan throughout my childhood.  I'm disappointed that part of her died, but it is what it is. I'll welcome her back if she ever does drop, but I am baffled people even bother to ask her about it anymore. At some point you are playing yourself pretending it's coming within another year.
  • Lana's post-NFR albums have by and large been disappointing and boring to me.

- Brat isn't that good of an album. Eternal Sunshine, TTPD, HMHAS and Short N' Sweet were all better albums released this year.

- the 80s aged the worst out of the decades from the 20th century, and nostalgia from Gen X and the crazy outfits/hair is the only reason people view it as the "good old days".

Cohesive albums are boring. They only serve one sound.

never understood criticism of something/someone being basic (in general people online making fun of normies 15 years ago and now NPCs, like wow, im... normal, i guess i'll take it)

your taste isn't special, you aren't special, you are just pretentious

- I can't stand Laufey's voice and I don't understand why people like her music.

- Alex Consani deserved her win.

Wait a minute…this should be a standard opinion. There's a reason why I like Taylor's less cohesive albums minus folklore.

Christina deserved a far bigger, longer career. There's a lot to blame for why this didn't happen, and a big part is Christina herself, but people who prefer Britney's music, performance or even appearance are immediate red flags.

Christina is an old school superstar diva and I love that she NEVER cared about being anyone's boring relatable girl next door.

Fashionable, stylish, risk-taking, artistic, articulate, and an incredible, once in a life time voice. She should have the career that beyonce does and it's an insult to her to be compared to Britney or Mandy.

Midnights and TTPD released by literally anyone else, especially a woman of color, would have been panned and laughingstocks of the Internet. Taylor constantly gets treated with kid gloves and allowed to get by with mediocrity - despite her claims to the contrary - because she's quick to weaponize her fanbase with a single statement laced in self-victimizing language.

People won't want to hear it but popstars get progressively worse with every decade since the 80s and that is not even nostalgia since I wasn't around then. Imagine starting with Madonna, Michael, Whitney. Then the next generation is Britney, Beyonce, Christina. Then next generation is Gaga, Rihanna, Katy. And now we have what? Sabrina and Olivia Rodrigo? And Chappell Roan whining all the way to the bank? Jesus Christ, the decay, the decline.

The majority of music fans disagreed with Bruno winning AOTY in 2018, especially those who were rooting for "DAMN." or "Melodrama". That being said, I really wouldn't call it among the worst wins in Grammy history. For me, it was similar to the 2016 Grammys where all nominees were strong projects with compelling narratives, but the Academy ultimately went with the safest blockbuster ("1989"). A boring pick, but one you can at least somewhat understand knowing the voting demographic and how they operate.

I'm a fan of Bruno too, but I think either "Doo-W0ps & Hooligans" or "Unorthodox Jukebox" would have been much worse AOTY winners. The latter in particular is extremely inconsistent despite its phenomenal heights. If anything, the biggest wtf moment involving him was "That's What I Like" winning SOTY. Granted, that line-up was tragic (Julia Michaels' "Issues" and the 1-800 'who can relate?' Logic song over Kendrick's "DNA", Kesha's "Praying", or Ed Sheeran's "Castle On The Hill" :doc:), but still...

While that's far from an unpopular opinion, in my view there were much bigger wtf moments in recent memory. The Weeknd being completely shut out from nominations in 2021 while Justin Bieber's "Yummy" and the panned "Changes" album made it instead. Or GAYLE's "abcdefu" getting a Song Of The Year nomination entirely thanks to alphabetical advantage. As far as wins go, "Harry's House" taking AOTY in 2023 was significantly more insulting. "RENAISSANCE" had the critical acclaim, "Un Verano Sin Ti" had the commercial success, "30" and Brandi Carlile's album appealed most to traditional Grammy voters, ABBA and Mary J Blige had the overdue narratives (especially the former who hadn't won any Grammy), Kendrick Lamar was also there, yet they gave it to Harry Styles for...reasons? If this isn't the textbook example of white mediocrity being automatically rewarded the highest accolades... :ace:

TTPD is bad and it's because she actually didn't really have anything major happen to her recently that really genuinely affected her (obvs we know about Matty Healy and stuff but I don't think she actually cared that much about that relationship) and so she had to pretend she felt stuff to write an album about and she just got too wordy trying to overcompensate.

Eternal Sunshine has half of her all time best music and half of her most forgettable music ever. Supernatural, true story, the boy is mine, imperfect for you, and ordinary things have no reason to exist). Bye, DWBUA, yes and, IWIHY, and ESPECIALLY We Can't Be Friends are just all time greats and some of her most interesting, best written, and best vocally produced so far ever.

Joker: Folie A Deux was really just not a good movie but the idea is a fantastic one and I'm happy that they took the swing instead of just doing another by the numbers sequel.

The image and vibe and general rollout of Brat is maybe more important than the music itself but that's actually really cool and interesting and a good thing.

Moving to Los Angeles is an underrated reason why so many artists make worse music.

Sabrina Carpenter's music genuinely sucked until Short n Sweet . Like maybe Feather was a decent song but that's actually rest, like all of it, was just not good. That said Short n Sweet is an INCREDIBLE album, like the complete jump in quality is kinda insane.

It's time for Madonna fans to admit her music post Hard Candy sucks balls. Madame X isn't innovative whatsoever

Same with Bjork, her post Vulnicura she's just becoming too pretentious and self-serving

OTHs throwing around the word mediocrity when their faves don't write their own songs and barely releases music at the best of time.

If an artist releases non-mediocre music but it flops and only niche groups listens to it, maybe type of this music is actually mediocre.

Watering down seriously social issues like racism, homophobia, rape, climate change etc for fan war culture is so dumb. People should actually get a job in field that improve these social issues, including entering the police force and changing the culture within the organizations.

Wanting to push the agenda of drugs, sex, crimes etc is loser behaviour. If you life is full of such things, maybe you are the problem? Maybe you are a bad person?

Can you tell me how the daughter of JJ Abrams and a Puck Bunny from Calgary are innovating AND impacting culture?

Quickly?
