Tell us your unpopular opinions that could get you in danger about pop culture

Lorde is a better songwriter than Taylor Swift, and it's time we admitted it.

Carly Rae Jepsen has a better discography than Katy Perry, Dua Lipa, Lady GaGa, Rihanna, P!nk, Adele, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, and many, many more (too many to list).

Chappell Roan is unoriginal and brings nothing new to the table.  She is a hodgepodge of stolen ideas and influences.  She will be irrelevant again in less than 5 years.

Dua Lipa is an influencer that sings.

Billie Eilish would be nothing without Finneas, and it's not misogynistic to admit that.  If Finneas were female, nobody would disagree.

Lady GaGa should stop acting.  A Star Is Born was a fluke and it went to her head.

Britney Spears is listed as an influence for almost every modern popgirl for a reason.  People love to discredit her and poke fun at her, but her impact is undeniable.

Heidi Montag's debut album "Superficial" is a better debut album than "The Fame."

Beyoncé is not a god.  Stop treating her like one.

Indie girls with <1k monthly listeners on Spotify are making better music than the "MPGs" of today.

143 is obviously not good, but it's not as bad as people on here make it out to be.

Caroline Polachek deserves to be the biggest popstar in the world.

Magdalena Bay's "Imaginal Disk" is better than almost every MPG release this year.

Tinashe deserves her flowers.

Lana Del Rey has lost direction and will continue to make the same piano-ballad snoozer album every year, and we will continue to stream.

Rihanna is not an artist.  She was merely a vessel for more talented writers, producers, and musicians to get their art heard by the masses.  Her behavior since 2016 has proved she never cared about music at all, and only became a "recording artist" to make money.

I didn't think any Madonna album could have been worse than MDNA.

a lot of popular albums from the 80s (less so the 90s) are just… awful… they're literal noise. im so glad that instrumentation developed and artists & production started getting held to a higher standard.

i sat down and actually tried to get into Madonna and Michael Jackson's older albums and apart from the singles, every track felt like it was produced in 5 minutes or less. it was just awful instrumentals that are just SO muddy and sound exactly like the track before it and the track after it.

this is also true for older Mariah album tracks ive heard

I get what you're saying but I've seen many critics/music professionals praising the level of artistry displayed on mainstream music from back in the day, saying that isn't even comparable to what we have today in terms of attention to quality. You can bet that MJ and Madonna hired the best of the best musicians back in the day, money wasn't a problem and they delivered state of art musical production for that era. It only got simpler and cheaper since, bar a few exceptions. Of course technology advances and we got clearer sound, more impressive effects... but the arrangements and stuff were already awesome and in many cases superior.

The title is asking for pop culture in general yet all I see here is pop girl lashings :rip: I shouldn't be surprised though.

Anw, what have the the 2010s left behind (other than Katy Perry)? Fashion wise and music wise, there is not a signature style that will be easily recognisable in the future. Ppl pay tribute to the 80s, 90s and the 00s and you instantly get the reference but what will be replicated from the 2010s?

i'm convinced the whole Brigdit Mendler worship here and in X is just bit. :rip:

yeah i get she's an inspiration for her academics but her music is unlistenable trash. worse than Selena's Disney music

even if you don't like her discography, peak Christina Aguilera is the best example of what a pop star should be

Hard agree, even with the avi. So many early lyrics make me just roll my eyes, like she either didn't bother to think twice for a better one or just couldn't come up with one. That being said, she had a certain aesthetic to her that makes looking past those very easy and for that, I'll always have nostalgia for early Lana. Despite that and Norman being her best work I miss Rick Nowels as her producer but even if he was to come back, Lana's a whole different artist now anyway and I'm glad her lyricism improved. You can tell, like on peppers, that when the lyrics are bad, they're like that on purpose. Early Lana could not write Kintsugi or Mariners Apartment Complex though.

Jumpscare warning but 1000 Forms Of Fear is one of the best albums ever... and it's by Sia

It's cringe to me how Britney Spears fans stan for her beauty. Yes, homegirl was beautiful, but you can see her online fans comparing "her peak" with Marilyn Monroe, and claiming every other pop star to grace the earth is a disgraceful piece of **** compared to "her peak". This is somehow sick because her stans typecasted her, and opened the window so more people give their opinion about it, which is not something she ever needed or wanted in the first place.

In reality, if you speak with real-life people, especially The Straights™, wow, you get a completely different view and opinion about her, not just the beauty... Which is frustrating because she doesn't deserve those opinions

Pop fans (Britney fans especially) laugh about Xtina's flops, and I enjoy the jokes when they are rooted in truth, but her decision to take distance from the spotlight was the best decision she could make for her well-being.

Pop music fans are stupidly fickle. You'll drag one artist for doing one thing while then praising another artist for doing the same. Example: You give Kylie and Lady GaGa absolute hell any time they try to experiment with their sound and then you drag Dua Lipa for not experimenting with her sound.

But the one opinion I guess would likely get me dragged is that I think Finding Neverland is propaganda. I do not believe anything that comes out of Wade Robson's mouth.

The Loneliest Time + The Loveliest Time > Emotion

Also most pop singers can't sing live very well at all, yes even my own faves. They often have terrible breath control standing on the spot and miss half of the notes they're trying to hit. The thing that really blows my mind is it's so obvious that nearly all of them lack any kind of vocal training, even the ones who are seemingly manufactured. The label will pay for some dancing lessons and a choreographer but not vocal lessons?

As a live performer, sure you'll mess up sometimes and you might have an off day because you're ill or something, but it really isn't difficult to just hit the notes you're supposed to be singing :toofunny2:

"It all seems stranger than a stranger" is the most popular one.

"He used to call me DN that stood for deadly nightstand" as well as "yo soy la princesa, comprende mis white lines"

"Queen of Saigon" in National Anthem, a song inspired by Americana.. like, sure, what the hell.

When the world was at war as a whole is just a cringe fest altogether and it should've been scrapped even if I quite like the melody.

"Be young, be dope, be proud like an American"

"I wear my diamonds on skid row"

The random "drink on the patio" in flipside after the chorus is another example of her lazily throwing random lyrics in, just for the sake of it.

"Don't treat me rough, treat me really niceys"

"Being a bad ***** on the side might not appeal to fools like you"

Too lazy to come up with more but they're there and I haven't even touched over her unreleased material.

Rock music is overrated as **** and the fanboys who continue to shill it and say it's 'real music' are having a laugh. Jazz, disco, R&B, hip hop, synthpop, AC - pretty much every other genre that was also popular during rock's heyday is superior

Beyoncé is a very talented performer and singer and that's where it ends. And that's okay. Some people act like she's a Prince or Kate Bush in the studio crafting her songs, or an actual technical director of her visuals, and that's just not the case.

She has also deliberately overstated her involvement before by saying "I wrote" and "I made this", etc.

Again, she's much closer to an Elvis than a Michael Jackson. And that's totally fine.
