SlowGinFizzzz Posted November 29 Posted November 29 (edited) Good, hopefully more countries and regions will follow suit. As a teacher, I can see the negative impact of social media every day: kids lack critical thinking skills, are getting worse and worse at real-life social interaction, their attention spans are getting shorter, and probably half of them are seriously addicted to social media. It's high time we did something about it. Also, mess @ people in here defending social media corporations and being all "Oh no, how are they even gonna implement this, politics can't dictate corporations what to do". Y'all do realise that things like privacy protection laws or bans of hate speech only exist because somebody (whether that's political players, private persons or NGOs) detected a problem and decided to regulate it by adapting the legal framework or to simply fight it out in court, right? If the corporations don't comply, they're gonna pay a hefty fine and/or get banned altogether, which they obviously can't afford. And if they're not able to find a way to regulate their own (!) service, maybe that service shouldn't be available in the first place. Here's a recent example: Quote CJEU: Meta must "minimise" use of personal data for ads In today's ruling in C-446/21 (Schrems v. Meta), the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) has fully backed a lawsuit brought against Meta over its Facebook service. The Court decided on two questions: First, massively limiting the use of personal data for online advertisements. Secondly, limiting the use of publicly available personal data to the originally intended purposes for publication. Source: NOYB Edited November 29 by SlowGinFizzzz 4
