Being able to speak in complete sentences is pretty critical to shifting any election. Biden couldn't do that. He would have lost much worse than Kamala—especially when her biggest mistake was not distancing herself more from him. As for DeSantis vs. Trump, this was when Trump was being seen as more electorally risky with all the court hearings underway and following the 2022 election results suggesting Trumpism wasn't popular.
