You can re-read my post or you can project onto someone who is on your side because you are angry at the world. None of that bullshit will work on me I didn't belittle anyone. I AM for gay marriage. However, sitting here in your privilege and thinking that alone will cause you deadly consequences is extremely tone deaf and reeks of privilege. Some of us are fighting for our lives, the lack of marriage will not cause you to lose your life. Other laws protecting the lives of the LGBTQ being stripped will bring in that assertion. Gay marriage most definitely will not. This is how I knew you were privileged and white

We'll be in the same predicament you're currently in 2

Sure, not as bad as they are in your country... we are on the same page that it is worse where you are. Now what? This thread is about what is happening in the US and specifically about gay marriage. I'm sure what else to tell you. Edited November 9 by Hex 1
PoisonPill Posted November 9 Posted November 9 No. The president and the executive branch doesn't have the ability to "overturn" same sex marriage.
MistressKay Posted November 9 Posted November 9 (edited) I kind of hope they do so these "gays for trumps" can eat their words. no they won't overturn it BUT they will get it from the back end. They will do what some states are doing. "Allow people to deny marrying them and discriminate" for religious belief or whatever else BS. It will also affect interracial marriage too! I'm sure don't ask don't tell is gonna come back too. Edited November 9 by MistressKay

My point is that, out of all the things that can happen to queer, taking away marriage should be the least of our worries

But it makes it seem just taking away gay marriage will have deadly consequences
Armani? Posted November 9 Posted November 9 I think they'll try to normalize criminalizing transgender people, then that will make it more easier for them to do this. But it will probably be through the Supreme Court
Sazare Posted November 12 Posted November 12 (edited) Prob not tbh, Republicans seemed lowkey relieved by Obergefell because it took the issue out of their hands. Most mainstream Republicans don't even discuss it as an issue anymore, and Trump himself has stated he sees gay marriage as a settled issue. The Supreme Court is a wild card but I'm still dubious that they'd go so far as to overturn OvH. Which isn't to say that other LGBT rights and protections won't be taken away; things like HIV prevention/care programs, discrimination prevention, and of course any number of laws and protections for trans people are highly in danger, sadly Edited November 12 by Sazare
