Is ATRL the only place on the internet where ageism towards users is rampant?

What's funny and baffling to me is when people who are two to three years younger call you old. Truly have no words

People of all ages should be able to enjoy the site and stan who they want but I feel like there's a certain level headedness and maturity that should come with age :rip:  I see takes on here that would make sense coming from someone in their 20s but be very alarming for anybody older (I'm 48)

You saying this while having a Timothee avi is kinda making me scrihm

I really don't understand ageism, I don't think I have the genetics necessary to look down on people for being old

I don't know about "only," but it's definitely an issue on this site.

aging gracefully on atrl is possible, some of these aging bitter gays have class in what they say or do. :kitty:

A certain fanbase should realize this is not 2004 and the conservation around pop music has thankfully moved on from mere misogyny and competition. Normaniglitchavi.thumb.gif.dc68d0d18e8f9

No lol, it's rampant in most popular culture forums from what I've seen unless it's a space specifically catered to older people.

And it's not a new phenomenon either, Madonna has been attacked for being "old" since she was in her 30s and still gets attacked for not acting the way older people think older people are supposed to act.

It doesn't help that the press does this as well. They call her grandma in their headlines. Ageism remains one of the last 'isms' that Western society not only accepts but also encourages.

The funny thing is this certain fanbase, they use ageism to deflect their faves MEGA BOMBING but the entire community is almost made of purple haired 40 year olds :rip:

idrc how old someone is, it's more whether they have the ability to adapt as times change. there are some users who denounce any gen z popgirl for the crime of not being a replica of the singers that were popular when they were 15

also some of the debates/stan wars that persist on this website are frankly insane. i have no words when i see angelina vs jen in 2024 :rip:

that insult never made much sense to me tbh

what i don't understand is, we are always talking about how females should keep living their best lifes after 30, and they shouldn't repress themselves in any way just because they are getting older, wear the clothes they want, party as much as they want, date whoever they want, marry or not marry, kids or not kids

why gays can't be messy after 30 or 40 talking about pop music? if they want to be chaotic in a forgotten music website let them be, they ain't hurting anyone

i will be 24 in december and i might not be that young but i dont feel old either, if you are bothered by other users age here maybe you are in the wrong place? just saying

not at all.

and stanning is one thing but being 45 and still engaging in petty cat fights about pop stars should be made fun of, it just becomes really embarrassing at that point sorry (same for ancient sport fans starting fights at football games) :grump:

I think there are things that you are too old for at some point. As someone who is 30, for example, I don't take part in any stanwars. That would be ridiculous, but I'm not interested either. I find the posts funny but I'm not interested in joining in. I also don't get a panic attack if a song doesn't do well in the spotify charts.

But our society is definitely very extreme when it comes to ageism, even if it's slowly getting better. Some people consider you old at 30. That's stupid. I don't even think 40 is old these days. The ageing process is changing. And even if you change over time, your core interests remain the same. I still enjoy playing video games, listening to pop music, etc. That will never change and it doesn't have to.

Nobody has to age gracefully. Everyone should age the way they want.

It's the most extreme on ATRL for sure.

I mean I'm in my mid 20s and I even feel too old for this "Stan" mess. That's why I stop stanning (it's toxic and time consuming; I'd rather focus on proving myself), so when I see someone who's 40 and they are making a damn fool of themselves over stats from 30 years ago. I find that to be ridiculous, tbh. It's like you're aging but you're not maturing. After sometime certain behavior is not cute anymore.

i joined ATRL in January 2014 when i was 15 and they way i moved back then is very different than how I engaged with this website now (I used to be an obsessive Gaga stan). I just think fighting and arguing over dumb stuff like numbers and charts is childish. I guess sometimes it can be fun… but maybe only once a year or so. After a particular age you need to grow up. I am not coming for anybody, each to their own. That's just me.

Idk I think it's acceptable within reason for an aging gay to still have interest in pop culture. However I saw an account on twitter recently that imo crossed the line, the guy had a grey beard but I was still on a "X copied X, my fave tanked your fave" type of soap box and it gave me a fat ick I can't lie

Twitter is a lot worse. I don't use the app that often anymore, but I've seen users shading other for being in their mid to late 20s and remembering things from 15 years ago :deadbanana2:
