Pop Fan Posted October 11 Posted October 11 Coldplay; the band that used to actually have the artistic integrity, passion, they had a vision and an actual purpose but now they're not even the idea of who they used to be and have lost their artistic qualities and standards they used ho have
ronelmaano13 Posted October 11 Posted October 11 Their last good album was Mylo Xyloto. Ghost Stories was okay, then their every album after kinda tanked.

stevyy Posted October 11 Posted October 11 This thread shows some serious reality dysmorphia by a lot of people.
LustSpell Posted October 11 Posted October 11 Yikes @ this thread. This is why you don't jump the gun
TipToe Posted October 12 Posted October 12 If a visitor from the future told me back in the mid 2000s that Coldplay would become the new Nickelback i would never have believed. Their music isn't terrible imo but it's just too basic and derivative. Critics probably aren't happy with that but as long as the geepee isn't turned off they are good so that's why they play safe, they just want to be viewed as the band with pretty live concerts and get their coins.
PlERRE Posted October 13 Posted October 13 I like them, but I feel like they have released the same album 3 times.

Granted, Ed Sheeran and Dua Lipa's post-2021 releases were underperformances, but I'm still surprised "Moon Music" seemingly outdid "Harry's House" 's first week in the UK. Even if boosted by physicals, that's still impressive. Good for them! Edit: Oh! They also debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 - their first chart-topper there since 2014's "Ghost Stories". Just a Gay on ATRL Posted October 13 Posted October 13 Quote (only out-panned by Katy, Eminem, J. Timberlake and Kanye) This is actually a notable trend. It's sad to say but we are witnessing the creative fall of favorite millennial artists in real time and its kicked into gear hard this year. These artists will have success for the rest of their lives so that's not really the point here, but creatively speaking, are not just capable of serving what they used to and it shows in the music. Coldplay specifically has boatloads of recurrent streams to keep their status as legends and themselves relevant, but Coldplay has seemed out of new, fresh ideas for about a decade now. Their music got too saccharine, their latest feels like the audio equivalent of a "live, laugh, love" sign in a suburban home.

Their music got too saccharine, their latest feels like the audio equivalent of a "live, laugh, love" sign in a suburban home. Coldplay only got panned due to narrative. They obliterated all the "decaying band losing relevance" comments that publications made about them when Music of the Spheres was released and now critics are pissed about it. The lyrics on Moon Music could be better, sure, but otherwise I don't see how this album is so much worse than Radical Optimism, The Secret of Us, Short n' Sweet and other basic *ss records that came out this year to the point of warranting a yellow score. Hopefully these journalists get blacklisted from their Wembley residency next year to learn a thing or two. 2
Onyxmage Posted October 14 Posted October 14 (edited) At this point they are a very successful legacy act. Very few can still sell new music and sellout arenas. 4 more years and they will have been in the industry for 30 years. Not everyone has that. Edited October 14 by Onyxmage
