Coldplay new album panned and flopping. Why?

Chris needs to stop enlisting the production support of his brother. It clearly does not resonate as well as the rest of their material.

I'm not getting the takes of people saying they release bad music. I do agree that the last two of of substantially less quality to the rest of their body of work, and they have had some spotty releases through their tenure - but to say that they as a whole are a bad band and release bad music is definitely a head scratcher. I would like to know why some of you guys think that.

Their albums are sadly declining in quality. Sometimes feel a bit pretentious in a way that they want it to feel like something special with those moody themes and topics of planets/moons but feel flat and sound generic. Their music comes to life once in a live show. Their music makes more sense in a stadium or concert venue and yes their older hits are amazing and a big draw but the show they put on is what they are known for. I loved their show, it was one of the best ones I went to, but their new album needs more listens, exploration to find that something special for it to click in and not many want to do that in this fast era of music when it's so easy to move on to something/someone else.

Because no one cares about them & their music currently. They are a legacy act & their tour is only popular because of the bracelets lights show gimmick (i know a lot of people who attended the concert just for that, without knowing any song from their discography :skull:)

That's ridiculous. They have tons of classic songs.

And you can say that about any artist you wants to see an artist just for the hype. An average person doesn't know 3 hours of taylor swift music but they go anyway.
:rip:

Their music has always been somewhere between mediocre and abysmal, so it's kinda nice to see the critical reception finally reflecting that.

It hasn't.

Most of y'all, who've never listened to more than 2 tracks just keep parroting what you've read on the internet.

They (might have) lost it along the way, but their first 3 albums are fantastic.

The album is a 100/10. It will sell 5 million units just this year, bookmark me.

I thought they disbanded years ago :deadbanana2:

A Head Full of Dreams was their last good album.

Viva La Vida was their last great album.

I agree that they are indeed a legacy act now.

Their music used to be so much better before (late 90s to the late 2000s). Now they're just interested in getting radio play and selling tour tickets with generic songs that all sound the same.

They're awful and were always.

Girl they released good music up until 2012. No one is shocked

I dont know their music that well. Only some singles but i been noticing how in the recent years their music is all like happy? and very colorful?
I think that can be a problem. The truth is people are depressed and sad and they want artsy stuff in the vibe of their first albums
Those looked kinda moody and like darker and like deeper? dont know
Correct me if im wrong :gaycat2:

Haven't listened yet but I'm shocked to see Max Martin and Ilya on the production credits

Haven't they always been? (at least Max)

ot: Kind of shocking so many acts have been doing so bad

this reminds me of the P!nk situation, where she can't hold her place anymore, despite having productions from her sure-fire producers

Their first dud was (kinda) A Head Full of Dreams. Mylo Xyloto and Ghost Stories are incredible albums.

Coldplay's Moon Music has already become the fastest-selling album of 2024 so far by a British act, Official Charts can confirm.

Already shifting over 160,000 chart units in 72 hours, Moon Music is set to earn the biggest week for a British act on the Official Albums Chart since Adele's 30 debuted at Number 1 with 261,000 chart units in 2021.

Didn't they struggled with their last album? They're a legacy act so it's not like this is gonna affect them, they should be fine.

160k in the UK after 3 days? Can they reach 180k from the UK alone? My lord.

+ at least 40k from Germany... my Jesus. The slay is real.

They might debut with 400k in week 1 globally.

I mean, they're calling them plain but stan the most generic artists :deadbanana:

as if calling them top 40 is some insult when that's all everyone's faves make
