Space Cowboy Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) Coldplay's new album Moon Music has a Metacritic score of 58. Currently the 5th worst reviewed album of the year (only out-panned by Katy, Eminem, J. Timberlake and Kanye) And their new album is kinda flopping in streaming as well Spoiler Coldplay are widely considered as GP darlings and are currently the second biggest touring force in the world. So why is their new album performing so poorly? Have they become a legacy act, with people only interested in their older music? Edited October 7 by Space Cowboy
Gelato Posted October 7 Posted October 7 (edited) definitely a legacy act now, hymn for the weekend and that horrible chainsmokers song are the last hits of theirs that i can remember Edited October 7 by Gelato 1
Goofy Posted October 7 Posted October 7 since when are those bad streaming numbers? I don't remember them being streaming acts
Brooklyn Baby Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Haven't listened yet but I'm shocked to see Max Martin and Ilya on the production credits
DawnAnti Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Didn't their last album flopped as well , the only song that was "successful" was the bts collab and was basically carried by their stans and the other song with selena flopped miserably too
Burn Posted October 7 Posted October 7 The album isn't that bad. I'll call out Coldplay when they deliver bad albums e.g. Music of the Spheres was bloody awful, but Moon Music (especially the deluxe tracks) isn't bad. Pales in comparison to their earlier work of course.
Bookmark99 Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Not surprising...their music has sucked for a long time now...
PYT Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Have they become a legacy act, with people only interested in their older music? YES! This is not new tho. Their last album has a Metacritic score of 55. I'd still go to their concerts and watch them live!
Devin Posted October 7 Posted October 7 coldplay is one of them artists/bands that has a great early discography. so no matter what bs they put out ppl will go see them on tour for the hits & nostalgia. 6
KatyPrismSpirit Posted October 7 Posted October 7 The album just isn't really innovative or groundbreaking. I tried to listen to it yesterday and at track 3 I already turned it off because it was so dull and boring. And I made this conclusion before even checking out the reviews so I'm not surprised it's panned. 1
suburbannature Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Can't think of another artist with such a swift quality decline 1
piotrert Posted October 7 Posted October 7 the discrepancy between their touring force, which is only second to taylor, and rejection of their new music by public is baffling
TayDuaStan Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Because no one cares about them & their music currently. They are a legacy act & their tour is only popular because of the bracelets lights show gimmick (i know a lot of people who attended the concert just for that, without knowing any song from their discography ) 1 2 1 5
shimind Posted October 7 Posted October 7 they make pop music to cater to top 40 now. They forgot their own roots. They need to retire and chris martin needs to to solo
Mr. Duff Posted October 7 Posted October 7 I think that's decent enough for Coldplay? The critics score is bad, but with how they also reviewed Katy, Eminem and Justin T's recent albums (even TTPD by Taylor), they don't really matter much. I have listened to the album in full yesterday multiple times - it may not be the most groundbreaking but I think it's much better than MOTS. This could be a sleeper Grammy nominee.
Calvin Posted October 7 Posted October 7 They are legacy acts with historic touring demand. No one is here for their new music. Their hits have great recurring stats because of the tour but album tracks have horrible streaming numbers.
SlowGinFizzzz Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Their music has always been somewhere between mediocre and abysmal, so it's kinda nice to see the critical reception finally reflecting that.
