Was more succesful in USA than outside, but i think was a hit there.

yeah I actually remember the Hard music video never got air played till months later :weeps: and was only once

I came here for Break It Off

Hard is too complex for average Joe, Rihanna did what she needed to do with Rated R :jonny:

No wide release and cannablised by Rude Boy

Hard does feature the iconic 'that rihanna reign just won't let up' bar tho :clap3:

I've always liked this one but don't think I realized it was only officially released in the US and Canada. That sort of explains it.

I would say BIO is a bit more forgotten. Cheers is another one that doesn't get talked about much.

love it. but hard was very US-centered.

It's a shame it's forgotten, because it a good song. If I remember correctly, it was released in the US only because Russian Roulette flopped hard there. So that could be why its streams are poor.

it's so interesting how differently I remember things sometimes… like Russian Roulette really felt like a huge hit back when it came out, but I might also just be thinking about this one sleepover when I was 12 where my friend kept the radio on all night and it played like 20 times in a span of 8 hours on the DC pop station lol

anyway, both classics, as are most songs on Rated R :clap3:

I remember when I got into her discography after Anti came out, I heard this for the first time. One of my fave Rihanna bops but I don't remember ever hearing it back when it was released

That Rihanna reign just won't let up :katie2:

It wasn't enough trendy/catchy for the standards back then. To think that with a slightly updated base, it would probably easily smash thanks to TT if released today ...

Very that.

when I think of popular music in 2009, I don't think of 'Hard' or anything that sounded like it.

It's funny to think that this came out in between SOS/Don't Stop The Music and Only Girl/We Found Love. Like talk about a hard side-step.

I can tell what she was going for, but it should've been a bit more uptempo and electronic. That way it could've integrated various genres in a way that was more popular at the time, like 'Let It Rock' by Kevin Rudolph or something.

The foundations are there…but the execution just wasn't what people wanted in 2009.

Lack of taste, I fear. Top 3 on RR and a career highlight.

I think it was a hit anywhere else though, so I get it. I definitely remember it making noise in my country for example.

ummm I think Break It Off is more forgotten

which is another that I absolutely love :jonny5:

Hate That I Love You is also more forgotten than Hard I think :coffee2:

Break It Off, like Hard, wasn't a single in most countries, maybe only the US. Like most people see Break It Off and maybe Hard as a popular album track rather than as a forgotten single.

This is a good question, GP doesn't have a taste that's for sure.

Btw RR appreciation thread would be a  great idea. It has a great videography (Wait Your Turn/Hard/Te Amo/Russiam Roulette) and music (slightly dated, but hits hit hard) :chick3:

Best bridge in Rihanna's catalogue

Where them girls talking trash? Where them girls talking trash?
Where they at? Where they at? Where they at?
Where them bloggers at? Where them bloggers at?
Where they at? Where they at? Where they at?

Knew it would be Hard.

Probably Rude Boy outshines it.
