It's not a flop, but it being very close to GUTS in daily streams and way under it on the BB200 can't be a good sign either…

GUTS had a deluxe release with a brand new single + Olivia is currently on tour. Not really comparable. Not to mention her fans have only 2 albums to stream while Ariana fans have 7.

I think it is time we had this conversation about this era.

Yes, And was a bit of a letdown and needed around 20 versions to hit no 1. That Mariah mix was an awful misstep. We cant be friends did well but seems kinda forgotten now, while The boy is mine completely tanked and the remix with Brandy and Monica made no noise and seemed a bit pointless on reflection.

The album quickly dropped down charts and the era seems to be done already

Would you agree that it was a flop for Ariana considering the hype she had or at least an underperformance ?

This is hilarious coming from you.
I can think of 143 reasons why it is successful.

Ariana is a very talented artist and her last era was big, so no, you're just delusional

Also, Wicked is coming to stay. Get your tickets ready sis, you're such a fan.

Not a flop but certainly underwhelming, honestly. I think people wanted a reinvention from her

We're almost 7 months after release and the song that seems to be "forgotten" according to you is STILL lingering around the Top 20 on the Spotify charts, pulling nearly 3m daily streams. :deadbanana4:

Anyways

Eternal Sunshine - #1 on BB200, the UK and 13 other countries (!!!), it's certified Platinum by the RIAA already and has 8 songs over 100m streams on Spotify

Yes, And? - #1 on the Hot 100, Canada and Switzerland. :1stplace: Has over 500m streams on Spotify, despite not being a huge hit

We Can't Be Friends - #1 on H100 & Global 200 :1stplace:, is about to cross 1B streams on Spotify alone, MV went mega-viral

TBIM - just crossed 20 charting weeks on the H100 and has a nice Top 20 peak there, the MV was an event

Despite the chart facts, this era gave us legendary and iconic features and guests. We have had

Mariah Carey

Brandy

Monica

Troye Sivan

Penn Badgley (YOU)

all being involved with this era.

No, she's doing fine. Just because she's not doing Sabrina carpenter numbers (who is the new hot thing just like Ariana was in 2014) doesn't mean she's flopping

She's in her Femme Fatale era, doing fine for her standards, not flopping, still being a topic of conversation, but it's not on Born This Way level like the new hot IT girl

Also this very much!  :bird:

For the fact that she's 12 years into her musical career now and this was her 7th studio album, everything was more than fine commercially (thankfully). This era could've been a step backwards, considering all the drama that was going on plus she's already a decade into her career, but it turned out very well. :clap3:

she's on her 7th album and still going strong, eternal sunshine is a smash album compared to some albums that were released not too long ago :chick1:

Yes. Her fans really tried to make this album happen, but it didn't. Felt so unneventful. Only made up to 7 weeks on the top10 of Billboard Hot100.

Didn't Yours Truly came out in 2013? I thought you guys didn't counted her firsts flop songs before Scooter made her career :clack:

An era with a #1 album and at least one #1 song will never be a flop. Underperformance at most.

Many #1 albums with #1 songs are called flops every day on this website.

I do agree that Ari's latest album might be a small underperformance though. Many albums are called flops here when they don't smash, which is weird. Many albums are just there, with an ok-performance/small underperformance but not necessarily big flops.

No, and even if it was; it is still a great album, better than Positions imo

It's a good album and is still selling +streaming well, it definitely just got lost in the shuffle of frontloaded releases in the first half of 2024 (Bey, Taylor, Billie, Dua, etc.)

I did kind of get the impression she wasn't all in for this rollout as many did, it kind of felt like an obligation at times which is probably where this "flop" narrative stems from.
