Lady Gaga - 'Harlequin'

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Let me do a quick repost in this thread :chick1:

1. Good Morning - 8/10 - I genuinely love the vibe on this one, but I get why it's not for everyone.

2. Get Happy - 5/10 - Not my favourite song choice here tbh

3. Oh, When The Saints - 6/10 - Also not my favourite song choice wise but that ending though whew

4. World On A String - 9/10 - That production is immaculate.

5. If My Friends Could See Me Now - 8/10 - Her vocals on this are kind of deranged (affectionate)

6. That's Entertainment - 8/10 - I love this song anyway, and she does such a fun job on the vocals here, very dynamic.

7. Smile - 9/10 - I LOVE her rendition of this one, the instrumental is exquisite and the little added talking parts...swoon

8. The Joker - 10/10 - I think I came. I wouldn't mind LG8 going into this direction, just a suggestion.

9. Folie á Deux - 10/10 - Oh, Gár, the MUSICIAN that you are. Strong Once Upon A Dream vibes with this one.

10. Gonna Build A Mountain - 8/10 - SING MAWMA

11. Close To You - 10/10 - One of my favourite songs ever, and to hear Gaga sing is is a gift from the universe

12. Happy Mistake - 9/10 - A really emotional retrospective

13. That's Life - 9/10 - She was born to sing this one.

Overall: 8.4/10

That's the vibe:

it's released midnight local time so it's out in NZ, AU and most of East Asia and SEAsia

This was never going to be something that ATRL would eat up but it's good if you like this kind of music

Happy Mistake is beautiful, I will definitely be keeping that one. Like I said before, it's not a big deal if you like this or not because LG7 lead is coming in October and that will be a pop emergency

The Aesthetics are basically FALSE Advertisement

:ryan3:

I think the aesthetics match the meaning behind the record. The idea that jazz music and traditional pop has to be tied to maudlin black and white shoots and ballgowns is a big misconception I see pushed in the fan base. Even if the music has an "old-fashioned" feel to it, it's nice to see more modernized imagery paired with it.

went into this with no expectations as it is a gift for the fans but im kind of floored? I gotta admit that I mostly ignored C2C and L4S, though I love JazzGa but her vocals on this album mixed with the acoustic, traditional instrumentation (be it rock, swing, jazz or something else) really make for a fun listen. Like going through a hall of mirrors with her as the guide.

Now im even more excited for LG7, bring on October and the lead!

C2C and L4S really give us lovely, but quite safe and by-the-numbers renditions of songs, this one hits really different though. It's kinda tramp-y, a little deranged at parts and just really cool imo

Not trying to sound dramatic here because none of this is that serious lmao BUT...

If this album doesn't move you sonically and visually then you're probably more of a casual fan. And that's okay!

But for an ancient day one monster like me, Harlequin is such a special treat. That hurt, f*cked up theatre kid named Stefani, obsessed with art and performance, screaming into the ether from her studio apartment hellhole as she tries to process the trauma that nearly derailed her life.

The album artwork being a reference to that apartment, yet again a mattress on the floor and a messy bob hair cut like in the Marry The Night video. The room filled with nods to all of her different eras like the trumpet, Tony on the tv, the disco bra, Letters To A Young Poet on the floor. This is a love letter to that kid who didn't give up.

The music is chaotic, theatrical, camp and dark as hell in the least obvious of ways.

Who the **** cares what music critics think :rip:, that being said, they love Shiina so I'm not understanding the correlation.

Anyways way off topic! This album is Gaga's worst project.

How is this Joanne 2? JAIL

NO BORING ASS "BOPS" we truly need LG7 to be full of piano ballads and acoustic instrumentation with FIERCE visuals and it's what we are going to get
