Onyxmage Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Not her almost debuting under Lil Tecca (who is that?) 1
Sombre Posted September 25 Posted September 25 I wonder if Harlequin can debut at #1. I doubt it's moving anything more than 50K pure sales, and no idea about streaming. Could have a shot if Chappel and Future drop significantly.
Gelato Posted September 25 Posted September 25 What was supposed to be her comeback album peaking at #8 is apparently "brilliant" 7
Lose My Breath Posted September 25 Posted September 25 Honestly, considering the album, her career trajectory, and the fact that she has gotten more hate than any other popstar in recent memory, 40k seems pretty good

TipToe Posted September 25 Posted September 25 A top 10 debut is good all things considered, the real challenge for her is not vanishing from the chart in a couple of weeks

Katy herself talked about 143 being her big comeback. If that was really the case, she came back and went away reaaaaaaally fast. 1

Yeah, idk what any of that has to do with anything, her album is selling about the same as her last album, and considering the HUGE amount of backlash and hate she's getting, I'm surprised.
Archetype Posted September 25 Posted September 25 6 hours ago, Lose My Breath said: I mean didn't her last album do about the same? She did 10K more with Smile according to this thread, and like others said, she put a lot into promo this era as well as performing at the VMAs. These numbers would be fine if the album was surprise announced a few days before release or was edgy and experimental, etc.

It was released in the middle of the pandemic, mind you. Just because she's been bombing consistently doesn't mean "she's doing good"
bad guy Posted September 25 Posted September 25 14 hours ago, Squall said: Billie needs to rerelease HMHAS NOW They haven't made enough vinyls for the demand the album's had but they seriously need to get some ready, locked, and loaded for upcoming weeks. Maybe it can pull a quick #1 around Xmas. OT: 10k units from streaming Clairo being bigger than Katy Perry

She did the VMAs, three singles with music videos, went to Brazil for that show and performed in Rock In Rio, did interviews, made that whole dress covered in WW's lyrics in Paris, did TikToks and pre-released the lead as a sound for trends. She did enough and the same as Sabrina give or take and flopped. Ariana, Taylor, Billie did less promo and did 10x better. Besides, nit-picking aside she performed to 100,000 in Brazil and did a TV show there and it was still N/A. People are over her. 3 4

I dont think any of those girls debuted with 400, 000 so no they didnt do 10 times better 1

They are Katy's peers as well. Bottom line is it's not only about promo. She did what she could and failed to attract. On Spotify it's a two-way street: You get the promo if the demand is there. No one will use exceptionally big amounts on Katy when she's no longer interesting to people. That'd be a loss. What happened to Paula Abdul or Cindy Lauper is happening to Katy now. No matter the product she just doesn't pull attention to her name anymore. 1 1
