makeawish Posted September 17 Posted September 17 i've heard it a few times now and a lot of the song is really good but i can never really get past that spoken word bit, esp the second time when it stretches out some. i feel like she can ride this out if she comes back with something better but i think it's a shame that she went thru a long flop era releasing bop after bop only to get some attention and then squander it a bit 1

I think they've gone into the studio and made an album full of Nelly/Britney/Cassie-inspired 2000s songs. Rather than being an anomaly (like Greedy was, with Exes quickly written to support it) — I think they've gone into this record with the plans to make like 10 out of 13 songs fit this sound I have faith that "it's ok, i'm ok" isn't the best of them, but is setting the tone for the record. It could be better, but she's not locked into an album release date. It's not like the vinyls are currently being printed. I think Ryan Tedder will be reading a lot of feedback and will know what improvements he needs to make. I mean…ideally, Timbaland, Darkchild, Pharrell or Danja would be producing it themselves, but…what can ya do… yep totally personally im looking forward to it.
teresaguidice Posted September 17 Posted September 17 the y2k tribute act thing doesn't have legs i think
Miracle Whip Posted September 17 Posted September 17 (edited) It will go number one when she drops the Ashley remix. Edited September 17 by Miracle Whip 4 1
MusicLoverDude Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Personally, this song is an improvement over Greedy and Exes. The production is actually drowning out Tate's plastic retainer voice better, but the spoken word part isn't very interesting. She doesn't have a Britney/Janet type of speaking voice to pull it off. Hell, even Ariana and Rihanna would pull it off better. Also, unlike Britney, who was 22 when the Toxic video came out (so only a year older than Tate currently is), Tate's image still feels very kiddish. Britney was already transitioning from teen to adult before she got racy nude and In the Zone was supposed to be the completion of that. Greedy and Exes may have had sexualized videos but neither of them hold a candle to I'm a Slave 4 U in terms of beginning a transition to something more sexual and adult especially when Think Later was basically just a sad girl album with some wannabe Nelly/Britney moments. 1 1

Just a Gay on ATRL Posted September 17 Posted September 17 The song hasn't even been out for a week and she doesn't have a massive fanbase to push the song as hard as other popstars, who knows it could rebound later, y'all haven't learned from the amount of times this thread concept has backfired yet? 1
jjmed59 Posted September 17 Posted September 17 greedy sank lower until it started getting traction a month later and that was w all the tik tok hype it had prior to release. some of yall want to see her fail so bad! 2 3
If U Seek Amy Posted September 17 Posted September 17 It's not a bad song but it's not something I care to come back to. I wouldn't skip it. Her music is very forgettable thus far
Parallel Posted September 17 Posted September 17 It's top 20 on US Apple Music. Tate doesn't need autoplay like some other songstresses 1
Dula Peep Posted September 17 Posted September 17 I feel like she'd be 10x bigger if she didn't sing in that high pitched squeal also I have no idea what she's saying in the verses which doesn't help...

drivers license Posted September 17 Posted September 17 sadly, yes. the lack of chorus wouldn't make this reach Greedy levels of success. but the visuals and choreo are so cunty, so i'll be seated for this new era.
artc0cx Posted September 17 Posted September 17 Shes never gonna make it, she has a very forgettable face and name, i used to confuse her with a random tiktoker 1

Yeah no, Tate is doing something that was needed in the current pop music landscape, we're tired of sappy singer-songwriters that don't sing or dance for their lives. PERIODTTTTT! It needed to be said, yall just can't handle seeing a Canadian queen slay and actually attempt to shake up the music scene with explosive visuals and choreo! Ot: Not the OP trying to have their Kukai moment, you can't be Kukai sweetie... 1
