Popular Post Pulse Posted August 31 Popular Post Posted August 31 (edited) It seems like a bunch of you lack reading comprehension skills. The article says: Quote "Beyonce's team offered to pay him next to nothing for the remix - less money than what much smaller artists have paid and wanted to retain all the rights to the song, too" Producers/DJs often remix songs without being commissioned first and submit them directly, it's not that rare. Just like any song, a remix has royalties/credits, so of course he'd want to be compensated fairly for something that's going to make someone money. Not y'all thinking he's money hungry when he often does remixes for virtually unknown artists Edited August 31 by Pulse 16 3
politeone Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Why couldn't Bey and her team just be..fair? Was that a lot to ask for? 1

Getting a remix done is part of a promotional campaign and is meant to give the song another life in a different space (i.e. radio, club, live etc). He hasn't just messed around with the stems, he created his own song and used her vocal. Plus, he's one of the most sought after DJs in the world. He deserves to be remunerated properly for his service, and Ms Knowles can afford to pay him. 13

Dolce Vita Posted August 31 Posted August 31 i know some of yall aren't coming for kaytranada rn…he's one of the best producers and his last 2 albums were all excellent. he deserves to be paid fairly and im sure this isn't to do with beyonce herself but her team 7 1
Polgg48 Posted August 31 Posted August 31 misleading thread to name beyonce whenever OP could possibly insert into, what's next? beyonce to perform at harris-trump debates? 1 1
ScorpiosGroove Posted August 31 Posted August 31 no one asked for that remix and it sucked anyway, he can stay mad 1 2
sunbathinganimal Posted August 31 Posted August 31 not yall turning on Kaytranada because he wanted to be paid for his work 8
Arthoe Posted August 31 Posted August 31 I stan Beyoncé but girl please... pay Kaytranada his fair share of money, you're a billionaire for god's sake. If you know ANYTHING about the club music/DJ scene, this is awful PR. Remixes and DJs are ESSENTIAL for Dance music, Renaissance was meant to be an homage to queer, black Dance music. Paying homage to the old queer, black Dance music legends but then at the same time trying to f*ck with Kaytranada because of PETTY sh*t like money, that's gonna inform the entire scene and influence business decisions of a magnitude that will only be discernable once they've happened. Kaytranada arguably is one of the most influential DJs/Dance music producers of the last 15 years (and I personally would put him on the same pedestal as Sophie), he has PULL. He is THE tastemaker, a part of the EDM avantgarde, and if people don't care to respect HIM, people are gonna wonder what conditions other club music producers, who have less pull and are struggling to find work have to endure. 8
Erreur2 La Nature Posted August 31 Posted August 31 A case of stans deciding to close their eyes and blindly defend their fave. This is disgusting from Beyoncé and her team and he jas every right to tell his story and truth. It's not like it's the first time we hear such a story about her anyway. 2
Alex Posted August 31 Posted August 31 there's absolutely nothing wrong with what he said and wanting to be properly compensated for his work? Not everything is a direct attack towards Bey, this is most likely a Parkwood issue. 1

Yakult Posted August 31 Posted August 31 Artists retaining rights to the remixes they buy is pretty standard practice, but that usually comes at a cost - especially with a producer as revered as KAYTRANADA. I love Beyoncé, but I hate that she/finance people at Parkwood tried to do this on the cheap. After producing such incredible art, it would've been nice if they'd shown due respect to remixers (who are essential to the scene she celebrated masterfully on RENAISSANCE). The article frames the timing of this strangely though - KAYTRANADA vented about the situation on twitter months before opening for the Renaissance World Tour, so I presume there isn't much bad blood.

Snippets of it are floating around, it's 100% what his fans have been bothering since rumblings of him remixing came about. "Where is the Cuff It Remix?" has been Kaytranada's "Where are the visuals?". 1 1
