The rate will commence this evening. Is anybody here for a culling of the basics in three or four hours?

I'm here to see which song could possibly be considered worse than the WONDERLAND interlude

Song as in singular? You need to think bigger, sister.

Oh shiit, I was kinda hoping those last few voters pushed that 1st interlude elimination back down to the bottom...

and I'm still only assuming it was l WONDERLAND :biblio: Can't wait to see!

I hope the first update is not an interlude galore and that no one wasted a 0 on them.

Hi!

I plan on kicking off the first reveals of the rate in about 10-20 minutes and would love if some of you would join in the festivities.

I'm planning on getting through at least 20 today if there's demand for it.

The first elimination is indeed not an interlude. Do we have any guesses while I copy over the formatting?

Something from MY STORY, probably.

I'm gonna guess A Song Is Born is out first :gaycat4:

Let's begin.

Track #16 on RAINBOW

HIGH SCORE: 8 x 2 (UrMom, blueberries)

LOW SCORE: 0 x 1 (AMIT)

HOST SCORE: 4

Hidden tracks were a fun little novelty of the CD era. Nowadays they're little more than a relic of decades past, but artists really used to tickle themselves by putting unlisted tracks at the end of their records. In cases like this one, maybe it was for the best that they were unlisted...

Unlike the slightly superior flower garden (I am's hidden track), + is not so much an individual song as much as it's like... independent part two. independent but it keeps going and going. And going. Man, is this song still on? I do kind of get what she was going for, giving us encore energy and keeping things pushing, but it reeks of laziness. Ayu loves relying on a "la la la" chorus moment but this is the low point of that trope. We know she can make it work, we saw as much a few tracks up on July 1st, but + is just a big mess. A track that wants to be fun and energetic but ends up boring and lazy.

So, in true Ayu fashion, of course that means she's performed it live more than half of the actual RAINBOW tracks. Mama...

Kyle-x: This is a cute extension to independent but like, girl, it didn't have to be longer than independent itself ddd.

Invisibility: A bit overlong yet I can't help but like it.

Curaga: Kinda cute honestly, but the la la las drive me insaaaaane. I kept knocking this down on my list. That "Yay!" is a kii lol.

Meloetta Carey: how many more "la la las" do we need?

AMIT: chorus is lazy af with those lalala's, easily the worst on the album hence its placement I fear.

It's cute, I guess. If the separate version didn't exist, I'd drag it more.

But can we acknowledge the fact that Spotify has it separated into a distinct track... while still using the version of independent that has + as a hidden song. So your RAINBOW listens make you hear it in full twice??? A whole fifteen minute suite of "la la la"'s...

Track #14 on LOVEppears

HIGH SCORE: 10 x 1 (Kyle-x)

LOW SCORE: 0 x 1 ( SA*KURA)

HOST SCORE: 4

One of the less remarkable interludes in her career I fear. It sounds like music you might hear while using the menu in a sci-fi game or something, which I'm not mad at, but it's not really long enough nor varied enough to leave much of any impression at all. In the same way that Introduction leads into Fly high, this could've made for a fun extended intro if it were followed by a cool track, but... checks tracklist Oh... Yeah. Nope, no saving this one.

Sorry to this interlude.

Kyle-x: So moody and kinda sexy omg, so random LOVE ~refrain~ comes after this ddd.

Already out here culling the singles...

4th Single
Track #15 on A Song for ××

HIGH SCORE: 10 x 1 (Kyle-x)

LOW SCORE: 0 x 1 (Bad Decisions)

HOST SCORE: 6

Already kicking out her hits*? Ruthless ddd.

*citation needed.

Ayumi's fourth ever single, and her second top ten hit. Ayu was starting to make a name for herself by now, scoring slightly more CM tie-ins and promo appearances, For My Dear was only a modest hit but I'm sure it has its fans... not on this site clearly, but somewhere else. The music video is one of her less memorable ones. It's one of those "storyline" type videos that spends most of the runtime focusing on some no-name characters walking around. At least Ayu appears in between scenes, serving in a nasty bob. Mother.

For My Dear is placed right in the middle of my own ranking for the debut. Some lovely melodies and an overall inoffensive vibe to the entire thing, but really nothing attention-grabbing either. A song that I can enjoy in the moment but is quickly forgotten about once the next track starts playing. I'm not like, mad that it's out so early but I definitely could've seen a couple of other debut tracks down this low instead.

Suilen: songs about ******* your producer never sounded so sweet.

Kyle-x: Love how dramatic this is and the way the production lifts in the second half. The house remix on ayu-mi-x 7 snaps.

Curaga: This sounds like re-do of A Song for ×× but not anywhere near as good lol.

Bad Decisions: ma'am these vocals :rip:

Yeah, it's very inconvenient, though I have no problem with finishing the independent part and tuning out something not particularly eventful like +.

Track #10 on I am...

HIGH SCORE: 10 x 2 (Kyle-x, blueberries)

LOW SCORE: 0 x 1 (SA*KURA)

HOST SCORE: 5

There's got to be some legacy involved in being the very first of the tasuku interludes, right? Like that's a staple Ayu-ism right there! Apparently that doesn't win you much affection around these parts, as this wasn't even considered the best interlude from this album. :rip:

It can be hard to write a lot about the interludes at times, especially these really short ones. Why did I give taskinlude a 5? And rate it above ten other tracks? It's just got a cool vibe going on, with the sleazy rock vibes and even some light grunge elements. I don't necessarily know that I like it leading into M of all songs, but I definitely don't hit skip on this one.

Kyle-x: Somehow this really works between these two songs.

Meloetta Carey: okay.

AMIT: actually pretty good interlude, very rock-ish but it surprisingly works going into M.
