Her "growth" within these two albums has been: NIL/NA/Error404

These are suppose to be TWO eras. :deadbanana4:
so I'm calling this is going to be her 3rd Album :

with the same teen, angsty, rock-ish/pop-ish sound.
---

She played it safe and tried to recreate her debut and failed.

not everyone can have a DRASTIC image and sound change every era and STILL be successful. :lakitu:

Girl I'd understand this if it was like 6 eras but it's literally the second era?

Since when are artists not allowed to have another similar album?

Guts was still successful, just not as successful as Sour which is fine.

Why would she want to totally reinvent herself after the most successful career debut of the 2020's ?   GUTS is actually a progression and a  better album than SOUR anyway.

She actually did make a significant change that some may not have noticed:

   Tall boots = SOUR era

   Short boots = GUTS era

GUTS is a success any way you look at it so I'm confused.

They're mad at you in these replies but you're right, when you compare GUTS to SOUR in overall numbers, it is very concerning. People just did not care about GUTS at all, and if she doesn't do something to reinvent herself and discard that dated bedroom pop-rock sound of hers, her third album is cooked :michael:

How they didn't care it pulled 50M streams the first day :rip:

She can reinvent her sound/ image without kissing goodbye to guitars. Whether she has the particular talent to do so remains to be seen.

Isn't the album still in the top 25 nearly a year later? :rip: Literally outdoing everyone besides Taylor, SZA, and Morgan Wallen.

I mean even without lacking big hits outside Vampire she's still popular among the kids. I will say I also forgot about GUTS until last week when my friend and I picked up his younger sister from her tour (I also didn't know she was on tour) and they said they had fun so…good 4 her.

I feel like she still has a fanbase even if she isn't some big major celebrity/cultural figure so even if her albums continue to underperform it won't matter because touring is where the money is at anyway.

Also I totally switched and like all-american ***** and bad idea, right so maybe the GP will do the same for OR3

Atrl wants Olivia to be over so bad.

Guts spent 32 weeks in top 10 in UK, if we compare that to Billie's 2nd album which spent 6 weeks in top 10 I think she is not.

Atrl is so out of touch with reality, it's embarrassing. A bunch of old queens that just ignore facts

OP give it up. The era is a success regardless if it failed to outdo her previous era.

"Guts" album by Olivia Rodrigo
To put things in perspective, GUTS spent a mere 11 weeks in Top10 on the Billboard 200, a stark contrast to the longevity of SOUR. On the Hot 100, "Vampire" managed 35 weeks, but subsequent singles like "Bad Idea Right?" and "Get Him Back!" saw a quicker decline and failed to spent more than 20 weeks on the chart.

Beyond the charts, there seems to be a notable lack of cultural impact and widespread discussions surrounding GUTS. It feels like the album came and went without leaving a lasting impression.

What do you think went wrong? Is it the change in sound (which really isn't), change in image (there isn't any), the lack of a standout single, or she's just DECLINED?
Is she the Kesha of 2020s?

she has good sales, constant streams, multiple grammy noms, a successful tour and media attention. even her politics became a talking point back in march. i'm sure she'll be fine.

her Sound track was competing with Billie in Awards Season and we all know how it went
its like the GeePee has lost interest and are avoiding her songs like hobo avoiding shower.

Well biggest movie of the year will tend to do that.

:coffee2: It seems some are still upset that SOUR is outstreaming all other female albums and is closing in on 13 Billion.  I think Olivia will be fine no matter what her next era brings.

The one era wonder in question during her sophomore album:

- Number 1 single

- 2 Top 10 hits (third single peaked at #11 and fourth single peaked at #14)

- Number 1 album with over 300k sales first week

- Number 23 on Billboard 200 after 48 weeks and rising

- Sold out arena tour worldwide

- Almost 4B streams on Spotify

You guys sure love to look like fools in this forum. :toofunny3:

Yes and it is fantastic to see

Billie's last #1 was in 2019, 2 years before Olivia debuted, and it only reached #1 thanks to a remix

meanwhile Olivia's "flop" era had an organic multi-week #1 smash

Olivia are gonna be fine just like your fave. Sour was a very big and successful debut that anything come after this are gonna be seen as underwhelming. However Guts just like your fave HTE facing similar fate regarding the poor single choices. Apart from Vampire being the lead singles, none of the singles they pushed are taking off. I just don't get why her team didn't pushed All American B as singles since it can capitalized the recent country/folk resurgence on the chart (at least on US) plus the song was viral on TikTok mainly for the scream.

And i dont wanna be mean cause i love Billie but she's a white artist in a majorly white country. So much easier to have success like that.  She's the golden child of the american industry.

Olivia is asian :giraffe: in a country where theyre a small minority and USA has a lot of segregation-favoritism.
She have it so much harder to appeal to different audiences outside her race-ethnicity
