Its a whole different thing to surprise drop a whole damn album + its visuals. The shock value had to controbute to a portion of its sales. Bey would ofc slay even without it but it just had a bigger and more iconic impact this way

DWAS is not really a total surprise release. Most of her most devoted fans knew about the release. It's not comparable to drop something with no announcement prior whatsover. 

 

It did debut at #10 with little promo beforehand so it would've only been bigger with a week-long countdown.

It'll definitely drop stream wise as it's Sunday but I'm optimistic about the position due to the Apple Music Increases everywhere
