Well, you should be mad at Billboard, not me. They were the ones who said she doesn't have the numbers. If they are the ones who have that information in real time, and accurately, there's not much space to argue anything. We know you're probably mad for Taylor not being #1 to the point where you're creating excuses for Beyoncé to have taken that spot, but maybe - just maybe - she actually is the biggest one of this century according to charts and numbers for now. Meanwhile, Lana isn't and to consider her would just be illogical by the parameters of their list. That was the whole point of my comment. I hope you get it now.

I literally just said that I feel the entire point of the question of the thread is to address where we might individually differ from Billboard's parameters. I do not care that Taylor is #2, I do not take issue with Beyoncé at #1, and you can conjure up an imaginary Swiftie demon to argue with on your own time. My whole point here is that I think it's reasonable, despite her not having "the numbers," for some people to think that Lana Del Rey deserves a spot in the top ten greatest pop stars of the century based on her artistry and influence. I hope you get it now.

It'd be reasonable if this was not a charts-based list, but I guess logic is not one of your strengths.

Drake and Taylor are two of a kind in terms of numbers

they both don't deserve their placing imo but if it's numbers I can't argue

I'm assuming you forgot how when she dropped Self-Titled she shifted music release dates from Tuesdays to Fridays

This has always felt like such a silly argument to me tbh.

The industry executives ran the numbers and realized Friday releases were the most profitable... i don't get why Beyonce fans act as if they all sat around the table saying "omgomgomg Beyonce released her album on Friday so now we need to release our albums on Friday too so we can be just like Beyonce" as if its a scene from mean girls or something :gaycat6:

And again, them making that realization and wanting to test the waters for themselves was all thanks to Bey dropping ST on a Friday and seeing how crazy people went.

Y'all will say anything to discredit this woman and her impact but will prop Taylor up as if she invented sliced bread:rip:

Taylor is a business woman first, artist second.

Beyoncé has multiple instances where she has sacrificed #1s, records, and cultural currency, in favor of nurturing and centering her artistry. I cannot imagine Taylor doing the same, and for that she will remain at #2. :bird:

It's… literally just not though lmao. Bother to actually read one of the MANY articles about this list or listen to ANY of the podcast episodes and you'll understand that this particular list is not solely based on charts. And on top of that, why the **** are you being so weirdly rude and jumping to personal insults? Like, did I personally hurt you by saying I think it's okay for other people to think Lana should get a spot? Did Lana, like, do something to you?

Congrats to the 9th (tied) winningest recipient of the Billboard Awards, which are actually based on sales and streaming.

But who doesn't love a list where the order is chosen first and then criteria are selected to justify it?

Suffer:bibliahh:

Actually, and given everything we've seen from the past 10 years: Swifties = GP.

If that were true, she wouldn't need weekly versions of her album to accumulate 15 weeks at the top. Adele didn't. Even the racist Morgan didn't.

Ooh, the Beyoncé haters are MAD! This feels like when Marvel fans complain about the movies not getting nominated for Best Picture. Isn't the money enough of a reward?

Taylor Swift is famous because she is a pop star. She has moved more music than any artist who debuted after 1990. She has the highest grossing tour in history and the only entertainer to ever win Time's Person of the Year.

Beyonce is exceptional. If there was anyone to lose this to it would be her. But this is also just a random subjective editorial list. If different writers had been given the task the list would look completely different all the way down. Taylor's achievements are written in the stone of actual records and she will easily end with the most impressive career of the 21st century.

I understand your point but music is art and art shouldn't be viewed through this lense only and it's clear that wasn't the only factor in Billboard methodogy.

Intangibles of art matter too, yes they're subjective, but that's the point lmfao.

She does that just because she wants to.

There's literally no cultural phenomenon like Taylor Swift in the last 15 years. Stop being pressed, jealous, delusional, or whatever.
