Lady Diana was the most famous woman in the world at one point. Doesn't make her the #1 pop star either.

Taylor Swift is famous because she is a pop star. She has moved more music than any artist who debuted after 1990. She has the highest grossing tour in history and the only entertainer to ever win Time's Person of the Year. 

 

Beyonce is exceptional. If there was anyone to lose this to it would be her. But this is also just a random subjective editorial list. If different writers had been given the task the list would look completely different all the way down. Taylor's achievements are written in the stone of actual records and she will easily end with the most impressive career of the 21st century.

Because in the first article about this list Billboard themselves said that charts wouldn't be the sole determining factor. I love Taylor myself, but the fact swifties are only bringing up sales as a justification to why she should be #1 already goes to show why she is #2.

They have been getting engagement pretty much ever since they started the list. They're about to get even more engagement now because some pressed stans are going to be butt hurt over a #2 placement on a simple list but then you can't really blame them for that.

Anyway, I'm happy with the Top 2 regardless of who's leading the list, both Taylor and Beyoncé deserved the honor. The real atrocity here is including Maroon 5 but not Coldplay

Does this really matter that much to you guys? Beyonce deserves her spot but if Taylor had gotten it she would have deserved it too. There's so many different ways to compare them and it doesn't really even matter ultimately.

i really like the articles that have accompanied each artist as they were ranked, you can tell billboard's really putting in effort in this lists, wish they did that for their consistently terrible album rankings but

While it's just a list and there's no need to be angry over it, the placements for the most part have been good. Other than them not placing Kanye a bit higher than he ought to be, this was good and they knew how to draw it out for long and mine all the engagement they could.
