Britney is top 3 easily. I knew this list was wack when Eminem wasn't in the top 5:rip:

high school routines, playback and max martin can only get you so far

High school routines? You tried it. Especially when your fave looks like a senior citizen when she dances

Like 99% of her popular and impactful stuff is from the 90s, where she'd probably be top 3, but this is about the 21st century

I mean they ranked Eminem the Top artist of the 00's at #12  :deadbanana4:

I think the top 5 will be ranked like this:

5. Lady Gaga

4. Drake

3. Rihanna

2. Beyoncé

1. Taylor Swift

i think some of you are forgetting that this chart is not purely STATS based...it is an actual IMPACT list. They have a different which is stat based.

Drake above Britney :ahh:

but this doesn't factor in BOMT so I guess I kind of get it..

This ranking makes sense though.  (1) it doesn't factor in the 90s; and (2) it's rightfully very high.

We can say that since they excluded her biggest era, top 6 is "passable". However, "Toxic" + Blackout alone are enough for putting her at number one.

Also, if she's just another blonde interchangeable bimbo, why labels still can't fathom how to replicate the magic she brought in the pop world? Why is she the common denominator between so many vastly different producers that struck gold with her (and are still praising her name, any chances they get) ?

Why hyperpop have intellectualized/semi-plagiarized her work, making it "hipster palatable", while still mostly paling to what she instinctively evoked in the studio?

What would K-Pop be without her influence?

Talent. Talent. Tlneta. Most of the persons we idolize here are often disgustingly treated by straight bros + the GP, anyway. An album has to be pop, but not too pop (which reeks of internalized homophobia). It has to be successful, critically acclaimed and Grammy winning  (record company have literal offices to buy them, sorry to burst your bubble!).

Who the f*ck cares? Pop music is the ultimate escapist genre where everyone can become a super hero! You're spoiling it with your extremely narrow view of what is deserving of attention and what is not (based on external factors conflicting your brain, not you're own subjective taste who, at its core, just wants pleasurable FUN!). Some of the greatest pop stars barely sang on key, by the way. All it took was a clear vision (easier said than done tbh),  charisma and a surefire beast of a song!

More than just being talented (which is half the planet, by the way), she's got genuine pop genius in her (something super rare!). And with that I kinda answered the long running debate around here : "Why is she still relevant, in spite of committing the cardinal sin for a popstar : refusing her role as an object of desirability, times and times again?"

Do you think Drake has more impact than Eminem?

Or that Ariana had more impact than Eminem, Usher and Adele?  :skull:

#6 prediction:

Lady Gaga or Drake

So I was wrong. I honestly thought one of these two would be #6, with Britney right at #5. I thought she would be in the top five.

Unexpected.

#5: I think one of Drake, Gaga, and Rihanna. With Rihanna, it seems like she will be #3 or #4 (unless Drake has one of those spots, she could be #5, but seems unlikely).

I don't think Gaga is in the top 3, idk why. So she's #4 or #5.

Drake, like Rihanna, seems like a top 3 or top 4 possibility.

So it's likely Drake or Gaga.

If they are not counting 1998 and 1999 then I still think she deserves top 5 billing but whatever...she influenced and inspired majority of the top 5. I figured that would be included.

I wonder who place #2 or #1...it's gonna be between Beyonce and Taylor and politically I can see Beyonce getting it but statistically I can see Taylor getting it.

3-5 will be something. I can see drake at 4 or 5. NOt sure who will come out higher between Gaga and Rihanna.

Them not factoring her debut is crazy.

With her debur she would easily be top 3.

But TECHNICALLY Billboard is right.

I still think without 1998-9 she should be at #5 at least but 21st century is post 1999.

For her to rank at #6 and is the only one in the top 6 who's most successful era is excluded says ALOT.

If the top 5 was not inspired or influence or took performance ideas from her they were on her stage showing respect to the legend so...

Katy Perry at 25 is kinda harsh, for 5 years she was one of the strongest pop star

Fair but her closest impact was Demi doing cool for the summer. Success and impact and influence are not the same.

These Britney stans against Gaga (when she and Britney should have to be in Top 5 instead) when Drake is literally above her too The jealousy jumped out.

I mean it's about the 21st century, why so mad :rip:

You've gone on enough, delusional Little Monster. Lady Gaga's last studio album barely hit the top 20 and fell off after one week. Her last film lost the studio over $300M. Her lead single to her latest studio album is bombing and is only projected to hit #25, and that was before Tyler the Creator dropped an album bomb. Britney's last leads went #17 (Make Me… with no music video and almost no playlisting) and #12 (Work ***** with no music video and almost no playlisting).

Gaga was not able to outlast Britney nor was she able to come close to Britney's overall career. I can post the RIAA numbers if you'd like :isudumblmao:

if that helps you sleep at night sure :rip:

Your own fave was literally asking Britney to be part of her music and even worked Toxic into the Renaissance Tour during Thique. How are you going to try and come for Britney when your own fave is paying tribute? :lmao:

The debut was not on this century

It sold 8M+ pure sales this century, gave us the 8th best-selling physical single of the 2000s, etc. Her debut was still active this century and the most impactful era of the century by a mile.

"She should be in the top 3",  replacing whom???? Bey, Taylor and Rihanna have all been bigger and more influential than her this century, so if we assume those 3 will be ranked high, whose spot is she taking? Let's engage our brains a bit, as hard as that is for her stans.

The delusion. Beyonce is bombing and she had to use payola to get her solo career off the ground and then again to save Lemonade (a shame Tidal went belly up because Lemonade's bombing on streaming now). Rihanna's career was full of hits, but her albums were always middling and she never really was a phenomenon.

Taylor and Rihanna both have minimal influence because they're either late to trends or just not experimental. Britney Spears gave us Max Martin, vocal fry, K-pop, hyperpop, PC music, etc. Beyonce gave us Rich Harrison and staccato rap-singing. There is literally no competition here - there's literally a multi-billion dollar industry built around Britney's impact.
