loveisdead9582 Posted August 7 Posted August 7 Trump doesn't surprise me. A lot of people looked him up since he was president and so much scandal and other stuff was happening too.

Ms Jackson's name was top query in the search giant's annual summary of trends on what people have been looking for on the internet. Like Rebecca Black, she was #1 on Google trends for 2005. EDIT: Actually in the article, they say Britney was ranked #8 for 2005 and it's the same for this article on Google's 25th year anniversary https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/9/4/google-turns-25-a-look-at-the-worlds-top-performing-searches (and Brad Pitt is ranked above Britney) So shouldn't Janet be listed for 2005 @Arrows? UnusualBoy Posted August 7 Posted August 7 This isn't that shocking, those people were the most powerful celebrities at some point
Moth 2 The Flame Posted August 7 Posted August 7 (edited) Is OP manipulating the list and lying on certain years? People can check for themselves directly on Google. https://trends.google.com/trends/yis/2005/GLOBAL/ Janet is most searched for 2005 Whitney Houston is most searched for 2012 Edited August 7 by Moth 2 The Flame

Hey! The reason I went with Britney is that I suspect the lists you linked is again a case of the most "trending" searches that year, as in compared to previous years. It's the same reason Demi Lovato somehow ended up being #1 on their 2018 list despite clearly not being the most searched person that year. I know it specifically states "top searches" in the article you linked - but if you compare Britney and Janet on Google trends for the year 2005, it's pretty clear who got the most searches imo: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=%2Fm%2F015f7,%2Fm%2F0gbwp&hl=da

If anything its impressive she managed to beat him in 2023 after all his dominance for those earlier years. 1

Google Trends is considered to be very accurate and reliable - in fact, it's often cited by leading publications like the New York Times, The Economist, and the Wall Street Journal. Google also puts several measures in place to ensure the accuracy of the data, like ignoring repeat searches from a single user over a short period of time. Repeated searches from the same users is likely not counted for google trends data over the short period, which could also mean over the 12 month period. Most google'd however, likely does, which skews/inflates data graphs for overall search and doesn't necessarily tell the amount of unique different users' search terms. I'd take Google Trends over interest over time data and also explains why their list is different to what you see in most googled (Janet and not Britney). They prioritise different unique users search data over the same amount of people doing repeated searches across the year. Edited August 7 by Moth 2 The Flame
