From a traditionally R&B artist in fact in the last say 100 years of music how many black artists (let alone women) have been able to get a number 1 single with a country song since it's so common. This is giving "artist that starts with B and ends with E, that was part of a group in the 90's" breaking record vibes. ------------- It's a different level of risk when a move like this comes from a an artist in their sophomore or 3rd album, when an artist has yet to completely prove themselves — As opposed to an established act of 20-30 years deep in their career who can basically release anything with a legacy under their belt. Apples vs Oranges what was Beyonce releasing in her first 5 years as a singer? Country has been a pretty trendy genre in the last 2 years btw and Beyonce wanted to ride the wave. Gaga decided at the HEIGHT of her 2-3 year career, to be polarizing and release an on-the-nose gay anthem (and album) that would 100% receive backlash and praise alike from different audiences. VioletsandRoses Posted August 8 Posted August 8 Anything that she released would've smashed. Her hype was unmatched until Adele. Though BTW did damage her career especially with Judas following it.
jeffersonairplanes19 Posted August 8 Posted August 8 (edited) subject matter wise born this way was risky but sonically it's a very radio friendly and catchy pop song which is what worked in its favor of getting its message across.
