charts discussion Katy Perry currently has more Spotify listeners than GaGa. Why?

People on ATRL love to drag Katy for 'flopping' but I just checked my Spotify app and she currently has more Spotify listeners than Lady GaGa.

 

Katy Perry: 58.5m

Lady GaGa: 56.1m

 

A huge 2 million gap. This is despite the fact that GaGa participated in Bradley Cooper's A Star Is Born and had a collab with the biggest popstar (at that time) Ariana and the biggest kpop girl group Blackpink on her last album. 
 

Why does Katy Perry, who is allegedly 'over' according to homosexuals on ATRL, have more Spotify listeners rn than the singer turned actress Lady GaGa?

She has less overall streams as well as less daily streams. Close the thread.

So much to unpack here.

 

1. Those are monthly listeners (AKA how many individual accounts have listened to them at least once in the past 28 days), not actual streams.

 

2. Gaga remains ahead of Katy both in terms of overall Spotify streams (22.2B vs. 20.1B) and daily Spotify streams (9.5M vs. 9M from yesterday) despite the latter releasing a brand new hyped single less than a month ago (which is why her monthly listeners are higher).

 

3. Katy having more people check her out but less overall streams isn't a good thing — it indicates listeners tuned in and tuned right back out.

Gaga will not only outstream when she steps on the Venice red carpet but also will outdo everything Katy has ever done in her career (AGAIN) with JFAD

But the question remains though, people on here loved calling Woman's World a flop but she has more Spotify listeners than Gaga who they claim aren't on the same level.

One of them is starring as co-lead in one of the biggest/most anticipated movies this decade, just performed at the Olympics, and is possibly gonna snag another #1 album. 

 

The other changed her hair color and is still flopping in every metric.

 

I was anticipating good success from Katy and was hoping the best for her this era, but the way she has set herself up made me just annoyed of her unfortunately

Awards and reviews can be influenced and paid for. You're naive if you think Gaga doesn't know how to play politics or have a big PR machine working behind the scenes to make these things happen. 
 

we're talking MUSIC here anyway, and right now Katy has more listeners despite claims on here that WW was a flop. Why?
