Taylor hasn't been a real hit-maker since 'Cruel Summer'. Agree?

The way i've quite literally, not even facetiously, never heard any of these songs.

Not listening to music is not a flex on a music forum

Cruel Summer's peak was what, 9 months ago? And then 6 months before that she had Anti-Hero smashing? And in the time since she's had Is It Over Now, which was a successful single by any metric, and one comparatively mild underperformance that's still done well on streaming, and you're questioning her status as a hitmaker? :deadbanana4:

See, I thought it was a hit from 2019 that just lingered on the radio. And I'm a casual listener.

Just because you haven't heard something, doesn't mean it's not a hit. You're not Today's Hits Radio or iHeartRadio :gaycat2:

To be honest, if you ask people in the street about Taylor Swift they will probably talk about 1989

Just like if you ask people in the street about any artist, they'll talk about their most well known work

But Cruel Summer was literally smashing early this year, the dramatics and even Fortnight could be considered a hit since it's been ligering in the top 20 for all of its chart run.

…ok? She got two consecutive smash hits with Anti-Hero and Cruel Summer last year. Does she need a smash hit every year? Still fornight is bigger than any song release by any Beyonce, Ariana this year

And how can you know it's bad if you never listened to it? :rip:

Because Taylor Swift released it. Its not hard to deduce this fact. Put two and two together and you get 4, her music is trash.

nnn okay even if you thought that (I'd have thought an ATRLer would know better but sure), Anti-Hero happened 18 months ago and that was just as big :deadbanana4:

Even if you won't consider cardigan a hit because it never got huge radio play, which is a restrictive definition for the streaming era but is at least justifiable, there's no ******* way you can exclude Anti-Hero and it's 8 weeks at #1 and 29 weeks in the top 10, nor the fact that it's one of the most successful songs of the 2020s so far in the US :deadbanana4:

Fortnight was a hit but people can live in their own worlds. Its also better for an album to stream well over just 1/2 songs.

Anti Hero was also a hit

Sometimes I feel like yall forget that albums are more important than singles. There's way too much significance assigned to a 3 minute teaser compared to the full body of work from which it originates.

You ate that. Louder for the people in the back :jonny5: :jonny5:
People really forget the importance of albums. They give us the whole picture of an artist and what they're all about. The singles are just supposed to be the highlights of something bigger. Or at least that's how it should be.

The only thing embarrassing is using the same Mariah Carey picture 500 other ATRLs use ad nauseam, lets get it together. Quickly.

Honestly if you wanna drag Taylor there is a lot of material right now, like the quality of her latest 2 albums and the unnecessary promo tactics

But she is a hit maker, let's not make stuff up, she is definitely a hit maker.

Cruel summer could be her last big hit, but I think she will pass Rihanna and Mariah with quick  #1s like Fornight, Willow or ATW at the rate she's releasing and dropping albums, which will spark a massive conversation in a few years

imagine the feeling when you think your wrong argument of taylor being a bad artist can be justified when you criticise other members' emoji usage :suburban:

Is there some sort of competition going on between @Lagerfeldand @vale9001 to find out who's the stupidest poster on ATRL or what?

Katy, for example, probably has a larger quantity of "bigger" hits than Taylor, but Taylor is about 10x bigger an artist than Katy is. Because Taylor's main focus has always been albums and tours. The things that actually make a legendary artist legendary.

Singles are much more relevant culturally than albums.
