Popular Post georgechxng Posted July 22 Popular Post Posted July 22 (edited) It has penetrated every corner of pop culture in a way that's been mindblowing to witness. "Brat Summer" has become a stample, making its way out of the internet and even being mentioned on press tours of blockbusters movies like "Twisters"… and somehow it's now being an active component of the conversation around the election across all social media. That alone should warrant the album a AOTY nom but wbk the grammys are not ready for it. Edited July 22 by georgechxng 36 1 2 2
Popular Post Vegvisir Posted July 22 Popular Post Posted July 22 Because it's good, organic, and a singular body of work with a clear point of view, and not curated by a team after consulting algorithms and trends. It really is that simple. 28
Popular Post Saintlor Posted July 22 Popular Post Posted July 22 It does to me because I'm a part of stan culture and on ATRL But if I wasn't part of that, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have heard of the album 44 2 7

The Music Industry Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Well, because you're gay and a part of stan culture. No one outside of the stan world (so 99.9% of the population) would think this album is "culturally relevant". 24 25
lonnie Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I think it's one of those scenarios where good marketing meets good and catchy music. But I don't know how much it's penetrated the non-stan/pop music enthusiasts world. 5

To be fair, something doesn't need to go beyond particular demographic to be considered "culturally relevant". There are plenty of albums, songs, films, books, etc that are considered culturally relevant yet unknown to the average person. Edited July 22 by lonnie 13 2
whatyouwant_ Posted July 22 Posted July 22 stan twitter, i'm pretty sure I wouldn't have heard of the album outside of that bubble. 5 1

Yes, but OP isn't just arguing that it's relevant to a particular subculture, he's arguing that it's the most culturally relevant album of the entire year. 15
ChooseyLover Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I think we need to give it more time to see how much it has penetrated the culture/people outside of pop music circles. But you can't deny it feels more relevant/impactful than 90% of the releases of the year already. 3
Popular Post State of Grace. Posted July 22 Popular Post Posted July 22 Yall saying "stan twitter" when the album and "brat summer" have already branched out outside of that bubble lol 35 5

Selegend Posted July 22 Posted July 22 (edited) it's honestly cuz most of us are LGBTQ+. not a lot of straight people know about an album called 'brat'. and this is in no way shade to Charli, it's like PADAM PADAM but the whole album, not just one song it's amazing. but it's a LBGTQ+ thing Edited July 22 by Selegend 2
wish Posted July 22 Posted July 22 Brat actually is achieving a lot of cultural relevance for a Charli album, and is arguably one of the biggest music moments of the summer. I wouldn't say it's THE biggest of the year but 4 1
visions Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I was in a city where pride was happening this weekend (for about an hour) and I saw numerous Brat t-shirts and tattoos It's definitely cos gays/stan world kind of exist in a vacuum and so you're essentially surrounding yourselves with people who care about similar things which make them seem more relevant than they actually are. With that being said it's still an impressive era and album, and I believe will have lasting impact regardless of those who claim it's just twitter vibes. 1
