My university lecturer has been working in the television industry and he said that Katy was very lucky to start negotiations about American Idol in late 2016–early 2017, so that 25 million check was based largely on her celebrity status in 2010-2016. 

 

If she wants to come back, it will be very cool if the check is at least 10 million per season (-40%).

Though her music has seen resurgence due to Tiktok, her inability to connect with GP and newer generation since Prism puts her at a disadvantage in future. Right now, TD is famous mostly with people who grew up with Katy's music. 5 years from now, same group might not be this interested in music altogether as they age. She hasn't connected with newer generation so it's highly unlikely that her discography would continue to generate streams. 

 

Plus, with her, its always payola trying to get higher streams, so I wouldn't be surprised if her team has been fueling her TD appreciation since last few years (Not implying her team started in the first place, after organic growth and appreciation, they might have jumped in with regular payola and positive PR online). 

 

That being said, her discography till Prism is 9/10 and Smile has lot of good songs. So you never know, she might find a new audience (chances look bleak with her current image). If she hadn't released subpar music while being creepy and embarrassing with her promotion after Prism, her image would have been far more respectful right now to the likes of Rihanna. 

OOTB is not really good in retrospect, and outside of the singles TD is really weak. PRISM had her two biggest hits: Roar and DH. She lost out on residuals from them for no reason other than the Luke association which she went back to anyway. Her music won't be the same without Bonnie

Agree 100% with this. You can see the clear difference in quality. Prism has so many songs potential of being superhit, yet these two smashed which is what most likely caused her downfall, among other things.

 

Let's see how the Era goes ahead. I kind of liked all snippets hopefully will have few good songs.
