ugo Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Katy Perry doesn't have much chance when it comes to critics, all her previous albums have been panned with the exception of Prism that is almost panned. Even her attempt at making an experimental record was described as "mediocre". Despite her recent attempt at capturing the public interest with 143, a lot of backlash remains concerning her involvement with alleged rapist Dr Luke (reported on pitchfork) In addition, the lyrics seem to be written using chatGPT and sound very generic. Do you think 143 will be well received by critics ? will the GP like the record too ? 1
Witnessed ET Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Critics have never been objective with her and they've always focused more on her surrounding circumstances more than the music when reviewing her albums, this has been especially true with her last two albums. So let's stop expecting any acclaim. Her fans don't care about acclaim. We just want music that we can bop to and enjoy. Thanks 10 2 1 1
on the line Posted July 11 Posted July 11 100% panned after those awful clips she released yesterday.
MerveAksak Posted July 11 Posted July 11 nothing about the snippets from that live says critical acclaim and probably no decent commercial performance either 3

ChooseyLover Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Might be her most panned to date tbh. Poptimism never had any mercy with her but she never made it easy either... 1 12
WildAmerican Posted July 11 Posted July 11 everything points to panned and she deserves it for working with Luke 6 1
Vixen Eyes Posted July 11 Posted July 11 If not completely panned it'll recieve mixed reviews at least 2
Khal Posted July 11 Posted July 11 She couldn't even get acclaimed in an era where critics were throwing 70+ to anyone and everyone. She's definitely not getting acclaimed in an era where critics review the artist as much as their actual work, and she's working with a rapist 1
Venice B Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Hopefully panned and a commercial failure. I want to see that rat on the ground 7 4 1
KillingYourCareer Posted July 11 Posted July 11 So much anger against this harmless woman in here! Even if it will be banned, and it probably will be, these same people will be blasting it in secret. 5 1
halcyonday Posted July 11 Posted July 11 (edited) NO ONE is expecting it to be acclaimed. We know it will be panned. As always. Nothing changed with that. As long as I enjoy the album that's the only thing I care about. Edited July 11 by halcyonday 4
Rev8 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 It's poptimism era and there had been several viral moments about her comeback or old music I think she would be appreciated more than she used to be The new song being done by Luke, definitely lowers her chances of a really good score.. but I think they might give her one of her highest scores now (as several older artists had been done, despite having better works)

I feel like nowadays reviews are based on anything but music. I remember reading the Rare reviews for Selena Gomez and they were mere hunts for Justin Bieber references in the lyrics + superficial descriptions of the songs anyone could've made. Don't even get me started on the BTS reviews, they read as panegyrics with the authors clearly scared for their lives in case they wrote anything perceived as not acclaim by their mental online stans. Katy was on a hate train during Witness and with a decimated fan base during Smile, those coward authors could finally let their repressed anger out with her. And if she remains in the same situation as 2020 this year, it won't change. 2
Riverbank Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I was about to say critics are gonna be biased against her just because it's Katy Perry, but after reading the lyrics in the OP... yeah maybe the pannings will be deserved 2
SylMacPer Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Another thread casually raided by OKHs. She's not getting acclaim, we know that! Stop trying to find excuses to spread your negativity again and again and again. 4 1
