Not ashamed to say I gave "Trust Your Love" an 11.

THAT CHORUS! Perfection. Kazuhito Kikuchi gave what needed to be given. :heart2:

There will be album averages, interesting facts that hardcore stans may know but neophytes probably don't know and user awards that are more prestigious than the Grammys and something you can attach to your resume. Most comments in a Kumi Koda rate? Definitely hired.

Stay tuned.

I'm extremely late for the latest update, but the treatment of BEST ~second session~ in the rate has been nothing short of disgusting! That being said...

Nope.

20. 人魚姫 (Ningyo-hime aka The Little Mermaid)

HAuSluf.png

7,62

misonos: romiskes, Curaga, Kyle-x, AMIT, Invisibility, poki (10)

Newtsters: Maresia (2)

A rock number from the 4 hot wave single. The video was inspired by misono, so she wasn't entirely useless. The doll motives are due to the fact that 人魚 sounds similar to 人形 (a doll), though they aren't full homophones. What else? Are we surprised that the same user that dragged Glamorous Sky came for this one, too? tommahellish69 fans are so pressed.

Curaga: "Not usually my kind of thing, but this song is verrry well done! Her vocals match the metal perfectly here."

Kyle-x: "Rock Kuu you will always be famous."

getinthezone: "her best "rock" song"

AMIT: "a rock banger and one of her best songs (and MVs!)"

Graves: "She gives it her all with these rock styled numbers, but it's just never going to be my preferred Kuu."

Yes, it literally means The Mermaid Princess, but it's the Japanese title for the fairy tale, so this translation is more accurate.

I just saw the names of a few girls in Recently Browsing right before you started... Maybe the results are scaring them off

19. 恋のつぼみ (Koi no Tsubomi aka A Love Bud)

nF4RyJC.png

7,63

misonos: romiskes, Curaga, Kyle-x (10)

Newtsters: Fevesy (4); Galaxy (4.5)

Basically, her signature song in Japan. While I don't dislike it, the Japanese GP and its choices will never stop baffling me. The song was used in a popular dorama, in which she had a cameo. The scriptwriter for that dorama later wrote the Cherry Girl film, and one of the actresses played a role there, too. Queen of industry connections.

Curaga: "Striiiiiiings, mama! The video is adorable. I love it when she does that extra cheesy smile like @ ~2:50 lol. Like, not just smiling as wide as possible, but psychotic wide eyes too."

Kyle-x: "One of the best songs ever! It was a huge mega smash hit for a reason. The bossa nova remix is excellent too!"

getinthezone: "cute but this being her best selling song is questionable"

Meloetta Carey: "I can't give "Wonderland" its 1000, so this will get a 7.4 instead."

Graves: "I generally prefer fierce and sexy Kuu to her cutesy side, but the twinkly instrumentation to this is kinda nice still."

Invisibility: "Strings and synths together make the brain melt in the best way."

恋のつぼみ (Koi no Tsubomi aka A Love Vessel)

Another title I misunderstood :dies:

I thought it was tsubomi like a flower bud, so 恋のつぼみ would be, like, a budding/incipient love

I love cutesy Kuu so Japan ate with their taste on this one

No, I screwed up the translation, a vessel would be tsubo.

Anyway, we need the audience for the next one.

18. Moon Crying

GXUHx4I.png

7,65

misonos: @Meloetta Carey (11); romiskes, UrMom, Fevesy, Britneyfan09, poki (10)

Newtsters: Galaxy (2)

The idea behind the song is that she wanted to howl at the moon, and what you see in the cover might've happened for real. Well, not exactly, she just looked at the moon one day and decided to devote a song to it since she thought of it as her protector. A short film based on the song was released in 2020. Queen of pop Maki Goto also covered the song:

Curaga: "Serving bob and ACTING in the video! :clap3: Pretty song."

Kyle-x: "A beautiful ballad. The remix on "Driving Hit's 3" goes crazy. The b-side "Lady Go!" is quite iconic to the Kuu canon imo."

getinthezone: "this a summer single?"

Fevesy: "This single cover.. in my mind it inspired Lightning ha FFXIII-2 outfit"

Meloetta Carey: "Ever since I became weirdly obsessed with J-pop from 20 years ago a while ago, I've tried to discover what happened to make J-pop the way it is now. Of course we can blame the Nishinocalypse, but was it actually the success of this song that inspired Nishino in the first place? Probably not, but IF it did ... it makes you wonder: was it all worth it for "Moon Crying"? I'm not sure if I can say yes, yet I can't bring myself to say no."

Graves: "Moon crying, amniotic fluids rotting."

Moon Crying is pretty... but, yeah, not top 10, so I'm not sad to see it go today.

Meloetta was cooking something with that Nishino comment. That Influenza song would definitely be impossible without Kumiko's prior cultural appropriation. The cutesy style also probably has roots in the kawaii part of her discography. I guess we've found the culprit.
