Was Thank You, Next a failed attempt at being iconic and Ariana's defining era?

According to the IFPI, aka the only official third-party source on global consumption numbers:

As you can see, Ariana's "multiple global smashes" weren't that global or that smash-y after all as they evidently weren't even enough for her to surpass a band from the 70s. So unless you can show me a source with more authority, accuracy and industry-wide recognition on worldwide numbers of all formats of music consumption than the IFPI, the fact remains that Taylor was the biggest thing in music in 2019. :clap3:

Of course she was going to top IFPI with Lover's frontloaded debut and inflated figures due to multiple versions and other gimmicks (very common for a Taylor Swift album). But, the album as a whole had nothing going for it during 2019. The album made absolutely no noise outside of the swiftie circles until very recently when it resurged. It's very clear that the GP hadn't heard of it until very recently when cruel summer took off and people began discovering that atrocity of an album.

It produced no hits back in 2019 though. Ariana and Billie had bigger eras as a whole and were much more talked about. There is no way you can deny that :deadbanana4:

You bring forth mere personal opinions again to deny… official IFPI charts?

Given how Taylor was absent from the chart just a year prior, her rise to #1 in 2019 can be credited in big parts to 'Lover' and its global success. Maybe if Ariana's era had made more noise among the public, she wouldn't have been less consumed than a band from 40+ years ago during her peak era. :lakitu:

At the end of the day our opinions are subjective, but that's what these official charts are for: To give us an objective, factual and global picture. And the IFPI tells us that Ariana (and Billie) had a successful 2019, but it was Taylor Swift who ultimately dominated the year. And who could disagree with the official representation of the global recording industry and their facts? :clap3:
