Nothing went wrong. She became a billionaire, has two beautiful children with the man she married and despite not releasing in 8 years, her catalogue is still outstreaming a lot of her contemporaries. Gen-Z were children when ANTi came out and yet you seem them dancing to her music on tiktok. I think it's impressive and just shows how powerful she is without doing much of anything.

They're not married. They're playing house

A (possible) homosexual of all people making this comment dripping with this ignorant traditional sense of family :rip:

OT: I genuinely haven't ever seen her this happy before as she is now with her kids and family. Maybe in the first year of her debut when everything was fresh and new. Rihanna came out at a horrible time in music where one misstep meant that an artist was dropped by her label never to be heard of again as was the case with her label mate Teairra Marie. She spent her whole career being doubted (literally had to fight her way out of being holed into being a one hit wonder act) and where she had to fight for what she wanted from how she wanted her image to be to her financing her own music videos and tours (which is insane). Rihanna was never thought to last as long as she has, anyone can clearly remember when everyone thought that all it took would be one year without her annual releases for her to be "forgotten" and here we are going on a decade and she's still very relevant. Let alone the fact that she was physically assaulted and had to deal with everything that brought while being in the limelight or the fact that she was robbed and nearly made bankrupt after working nonstop. All of that combined with the constant slutshaming and the vitriol she faced (people forget how young she was when she began dealing with all this) I personally can't blame her if she'll never be as active as she once was in the music industry. It would require her to give up certain things while she spent so many years giving (to the literal point of physical collapse) and being one of the best popstars while still being constantly doubted, disdained and overlooked. The more I look at it the more I understand, and I absolutely want her to drop music too. But if I spent most of my youth being an entertainer and went through all that she went through and then finally found happiness with a beautiful family and greater financial security than I had during my most active days I too would keep away from the music industry :rip:

People saying she isn't an artist but their favs haven't released a good album in a decade.

Combination.

She never had a passion for music, just to make it big out of Barbados. Her makeup became huge so there was no reason to go back to music. She's not gonna go through recording multiple takes, learning lyrics, multiple shoots for videos, a freaking tour, etc if makeup pays more.

I think many people forget this happened to her because of how well she handled it. She never really let it become her personality and just powered through it by doing her pop star thing. The fact that she came back with a brighter pop image during Loud, too.. you would've never known she had just gone through that just a year and a half prior.

As much as I hate that she doesn't release music now, I can't hate her because she's been through so much and she was THEE pop star who always kept things fresh and worked hard as f*** to secure her legacy in music.

When did Rih say "she was playing house"? You know damn well what you were doing with that comment and stand in it if you're going to be messy.

Right. That she never cried about all the hate or tried to victimize herself and went on with her life made it seem like what happened to her was a small thing when it wasn't. Rihanna was 22 by the time Loud came out so that should give perspective of all that upheaval happening since she was a teenager.

She burned out, physically and mentally. People saying she wasn't passionate about music while not that many people in the industry were financing their own videos and tours :rip: That lady more than cared for her music career and was passionate, because if she wasn't she would have turned out to be the one hit wonder that people predicted she would turn out to be.

There was a time (when she got back with Chris and was more erratic than usual online) that we actually feared for her, there are more than enough stars from her generation that didn't make it out of that industry the same if you know what I mean. She took on too much at too young an age, the fact that she's where she's at mentally and physically currently at the moment is beautiful to witness if you truly know her journey as most of this forum pretends not to.

That's false, and even if that was true, why do you care ?

I think the death of her passion for music is a direct product of how making money in the music industry works.

The entire reason she made "***** Better Have My Money" is because one of her accountants apparently stole money from her for years, and she didn't make as much as she should've.

It is clear she became addicted to the oodles of cash she made from Fenty beauty and decided making music comparatively was not the same ROI and not as enticing to her anymore.

she became to much of a perfectionist who became worried about getting both hits and critical acclaim instead of just bops.

it's no secret that she has recorded a good deal of music since anti but has scrapped the songs since they don't sastify her standards.

This!

Nothing. She could surprise drop at any time and people would eat it up.

Even I fail to remember all these different aspects of her career on a typical day and I've been a fan for 15 years. Thank you for this summary, beautifully said :clap3:
