holy s*** twitter users are getting dumber everyday and it's frightening :ace:

Project 2025: The goal of replacing "deep state" federal employees with true patriots who are loyal to the US.

deep state: the idea that a secret cabal of (mostly) democrats and elites run a shadow government.

so according to this user, the democrats are trying to enact project 2025 to destroy themselves :deadbanana:

No, they are just pointing out that putting faith in Democrats is misguided. Dems thought Hillary was a slam dunk against Trump. Hillary engaged in the pied piper strategy of elevating Trump to force Republican candidates to take on more extreme positions to please her donor base who want her to be a watered down corporate stooge. This all gave us Trump. RBG refused to step down when Obama had a supermajority. Nancy Pelosi has said she wants a strong Republican Party. Dems are just playing games with people's lives. They sidelined Bernie because they knew he could beat Trump, and now we're paying the price with a horrible candidate like Biden and a genocide.

I think the only actual Biden stan is GhostBox, and everyone else who is mildly supportive of him has come to terms with the fact that he's the only not-Trump option. There are a long, long list of people I'd rather have, but the choice we get the luxury of making is between Trump or Biden, and I've accepted that :gaycat4:

Well, I can't say that I agree with your entire post, but I do agree that putting all your faith in Democrats is misguided. They're a flawed party, no doubt about it. But I at least trust them to respect the most basic of democratic principles.

So the blue states with blue city councils sending in police to throw teachers to the ground for protesting while a Democrat is in the White House is respecting basic democratic principles?

All politicians suck, I've just accepted that at this point. I give up on anyone good. Anyone that still has hope is stronger than I am

But I'd rather take the net neutral "progress" of democratic leadership than the net negative progress of republican leadership.

well, I don't want to get into it too much (not in the mood for a giant political debate), but I think in regards to the university protests, it's a case by case basis. some police crackdowns should be condemned (and I trust the judiciary system will handle it) while others can be justified for civil disobedience, specifically those who are camping on property and being asked to leave but refuse to. again, it's a case by case basis, but it doesn't make me think "this is the fault of the democrats"

This. I'm convinced that certain users here would genuinely be okay with Project 2025 happening just so they could feel superior to neolibs and like they've "won" :toofunny3:

Everything throughout history shows us that mass movements on the ground are critical in fighting fascism. If the Dems failed to pick a candidate that could beat Trump in 2016, failed to craft a strong message against him in 2024, and failed to get justices like RBG to step down at critical times then why should we put faith in them to stop Project 2025? How much longer can the current Dem strategy last?

So are you arguing that we should let Trump win and wreak his havoc because the carnage to hundreds of thousands of Americans will make it easier to form a movement for change?

No, the Occupy movement began under Obama, as did the Black Lives Matter movement. The protests happening on campuses and across the country are happening under Biden. It's Biden's job to compel Americans to vote for him, it's not leftists job to excuse genocide.

Why is it whenever there's a thread on US politics, any critique of Joe and his administration gets downvoted? Are they perhaps doing too much?

There's a mass delusion event occurring with affluent and privileged liberals removed from reality and unable to reconcile with most of the world not thinking like them and their antiquated worldview.

You can be like "I think Joe Biden should support universal healthcare" and I'll have a far-right user from like Estonia or Poland whose post history includes calling Roma people "vermin" tell me I'm a Trump supporter and secretly want Trump to win because I don't think someone should get to call themselves a Democrat if they push policy that leads to poor people dying like kicking tens of millions off Medicaid.

Just genuinely the most unhinged combination of privileged yet openly bigoted people lashing out because they hate America's multi-racial working class and that Biden is being asked to meet the smallest of bars instead of outwardly antagonizing 85% of his voting base. Users who used to post about supporting drowning rafts full of refugees off the Italian coast being like "you're letting fascism win if you don't vote for Biden" like girl you are the fascism?!

You guys are literally so annoying. I think everyone on ATRL knows that there's this certain pro Hamas extremist mob here on ATRL who love downvoting anything they disagree with in packs. And many of them have already commented on this thread :deadbanana2:

Who is asking you to "excuse" anything?

Anyone expecting me to vote for any of the 3 pro-genocide candidates.

Idk how that's asking to excuse anything but more power to you.

also "expecting" is a weirdly combative word choice. People telling you why they think you should vote for someone is not making demands of you as if they even could

You guys miss no opportunity to say that you're not voting for Biden. We get it already and we don't care.

There it is, someone finally said it! Thank you. Everytime I have tried to reason with them I got mobbed and ridiculed. Right now I just stopped, cuz there is no point in doing that. I care about my rights, my allies and how will this election affect me.

Sister, didn't you literally mock multiple users for being upset at Biden for attacking undocumented migrants in his state of the union a few weeks back and referring to them as "illegals"?

You quite literally quoted multiple users who called out that moment as explicitly right wing and no different than Trumpian fascism and mocked people who were outraged.

If people aren't allowed to be upset when Biden repeats rhetoric that is objectively right-wing, how is that not excusing his actions, whether it be his support for genocide or this weird hard right turn on immigration?

It's genuinely insane that being upset over Biden using such hurtful slurs about groups of people like "illegals" is somehow met with gaslighting. I genuinely can't even remember Hillary using such harsh and demeaning language in 2016. :rip: Using such a slur is literally a ZTP violation on here yet users were defending the president of the United States for using it? Because he's a Dem? Where is the actual red line? At what point do people's humanity matter?

Doesn’t mean they’re stans. What they are is tired of certain people on here spreading lies and falsehoods about “both sides of the same coin” and openly saying how they’re working hard to ensure Biden loses. People who claim to not be MAGA or GOP, but hate Biden and say he’s failed and don’t seem to care about all the people who will be hurt again by Trump’s return and the decades of regression our country faces.

Some of us don’t like Biden and don’t have the privilege for idealism. The reality of our poor political situation is we have a binary choice between someone who we don’t agree with on everything, one who has completely fucked the bed on some things and his inability to adjust policy but understand things will be worse (a fact) if Trump gets back the presidency.

Civil rights, abortion rights, LGBTQ protections, religious freedom, etc is at stake. I don’t need to like or love someone to vote for him/her when the other option is a literal criminal who hates me and communities I’m a part of.
