Sam Smith and Troye Sivan are two of the most successful artists from the LGBTQ+ but why Sam is the one with hits and not Troye if they pander to the same people and talk about similar topics on their lyrics?

They were taken seriously as musician / songwriter (hence the Grammy nods) - they also built loyal and mature following. Whereas Troye Sivan, initially started as Youtuber, most of his fans are of younger lgbtq+ audience.

These Sam vs Troye threads are so tiring, it's not even a fair comparison because one is an "niche" artist and the other is "mainstream" that built an more broader audience.. 

 

We need to stop comparing talented LGBTQ against each other, it's already bad enough we do it to our favorite female artists..

Even though Sam never hid their sexuality, their career started out with a very universal sound, image and way of marketing.  

 

Troye is a YouTuber who succesfully branched out to a proper singing career.  Troye's coming out and his Journey was far more interwined in both lyrical as visual content of his music.

Troye's music is really boring. I don't really like Sam's music either but his voice is the kind that inspires emotions even in straight people so he's got that going for him.
